The way he broke away was honestly insane, I remember when I heard his first song after he broke the persona and it was filled with so much pain. He has come so far.

He didnt totally grow out of it. It was something he enjoyed doing until his music career was able to take off. UA-cam also became too childish to allow his videos to be posted/profitable. You can see this in recent interviews where he seemingly naturally turns into filthyfrank before correcting himself
Because joji is accentuated george and franku is a character. It was just shitty edgy lore humor he pioneered it and then fucked off before shit hit the fan 😂
@@MelanchlyApexthats exactly what happened to me, i used to watch filthy frank back in the day, fast foward to now me and homie was smoking, i play some joji, and my homies goes "you know this is filthy frank?", my mind was completely blown
He was a pioneer of UA-cam back in the day, he helped shaped UA-cam as a platform. All of us who grew up watching his content miss him dearly, but we're very happy for him and the career path he chose at the same time. He went from dissing musicians, to becoming one himself, it just goes to show. You never know where life will take you next.
I hate how his fan base stopped him from growing. I think society has a problem understanding that celebrities are people too. I’m so happy to see him doing better
his music slaps so how can anyone complain? I basically grew up on Filthy Frank but I wasn't just there for Frank, I loved Joji and his music too. I still remember when he first linked his soundcloud and I heard "medicine beat" and it was the most beautiful thing I heard, he never made it longer because he said he liked "short and sweet", a statement which motivates me even today as I make music and film.
Nah it's just the certain type of people he generally attracted as frank. These are the same people who watch liveleak, gore videos, ISIS execution shit etc. You honestly think these people care about him? Atleast in my experience most of the people that knew him back in the peak were 4channers that always browsed that stuff.
I was only familiar with the Pink Guy music, so I originally listened to Joji, then when I found out the content he used to make I was like no way it's the same guy.. yup it is lol.
He’s been my biggest inspiration navigating the youtuber to music career balance. The concept of a musician making UA-cam videos. The slow transition and sprinkling in original tracks into the regular content. He laid down the blue print I strive to follow in my own way.
I’m sorry dude but you do fnaf rap songs, that’s not the same thing. Joji was always on a much higher level of self awareness which is why he was so able to transform. I’m not insulting you, I’m just saying you don’t have to do the transition in the same way he did because you’re not at all the same
Should've gatekeep the internet more honestly, you really cant't find the same vibe of content anymore. It seems like UA-cam started to promote more small content creators after worsening the algorithm more and more for a few years so that's nice I guess
I think he was simply put; A genius. I used to be one of those toxic kids who supported him and all of Filthy Frank's shenanigans but ironically enough, around the time Filthy Frank was buried my mentality was shifting to a more emotional state and his music commingled with my emotions at the time perfectly, his transition at the peak of his popularity was nothing short of genius.
@@staticsoul69 and also he made the right choice imagine if he got discouraged and just stayed doing filthy frank late 2019 through 2021 would have ate him alive. It would be brutal. My goodness. His content would not last
Makes me upset he was sick almost the whole time. You don't just start having a condition like that, it builds it momentum slowly and painfully, until you just can't fight anymore and living a normal life is the vest you can hope for. Every song the man has made has made me emotional in one way or another
He just released a new song... "Glimpse of Us" and it is truly incredible. Few artists like him in the world today and I expect him to experience an incredible amount of success... God bless him and his future
I remember when I first came across Jojis soundcloud 5-6 years ago, it had such a huge impact on my taste in music and I still regularly listen to world$tar money, besidju, and unsaved info. I'm really happy for him, glad he made it this far and hope he keeps going.
I was a huge fan of Filthy Frank. Admittedly I’m not a Joji fan, but I support the fact he’s doing what makes him happy. And after bringing laughter and joy to millions, he deserves to have some laughter and joy himself.
When I met Joji, he seemed like a really nice, down to earth guy. He was at a local dog park near by where I live. I passed by him when he was blowing Pekingese. I asked for his autograph. He said yes.
Lmao Eminem? The dude who used to make rap to be funny and edgy, but now only seems to release tracks out of anger because someone hurt his feelings? Relegated into obscurity, and no amount of pretending to be Twista will bring him back. I honestly feel kinda bad for him. You'd think when someone had that amount of money and prestige, they wouldn't be so petty.
He was an incredible physically committed comedian, I thought it was ground breaking when he revealed himself and the humanity behind the artist, I was so here for it. It’s a shame he’s haunted by the fandom pressures and his own personal issues.
Joji can’t get cancelled. People don’t get cancelled for deeds alone, they get cancelled because of hipocrisy, trying to cover it up, because their content is vapid, and because the public is just tired of them. In Joji’s case, none of these apply. That being said, I do think he quit the filthy frank show at the right time.
They get canceled because they bend the knee to the mob, or apologize for the wrong reasons. Who didn't get canceled? Louis CK is still rich as fuck and does packed comedy shows. Joe Rogan is not "cancelable". If you don't exist on censored platforms you win. That's the future. Musk buying Twitter reclaims our universe given right to communication. No one can take that away. Good day sir.
@@beybladeguru101 and here we find somebody with zero reading comprehension trying to make a comment on youtube. so sad and strange to watch you flounder with concepts that a fifth grader could easily grasp. if you genuinely think that OP was trying to make a value-based statement instead of a practical observation of how “cancelling” actually works, then there’s simply no helping you. you’re just stupid.
@@beybladeguru101 Cancel culture is not real. No celebrity who has actually done heinous acts has ever received public condemnation, and it almost never effects their career. The few times it has actually effected someone’s career, it hasn’t been because the media wants to cancel them because they’re “not woke enough”, it’s because they genuinely did something awful and are simply seeing the consequences of their actions.
He left at the perfect time as youtube really started to crack down on the more "controversial" videos on the site, its been amazing to see how he's grown since that transition and i'd love to see him bring jojivlogs or something similar back
I remember recently seeing some people in a comment section mentioning how much they were looking forward to George “getting bored of Joji and going back to Filthy Frank” and I just... I feel like that’s a pipe dream. He’s moved on from that stage of his life, and he seems so much happier where he is now than where he was then. You know?
Honestly I was disgusted at how the fanbase reacted to his leaving for the sake of his mental health. It sucks that big channels have toxic fans that care more about the content, and not about the creators health. I'm glad he was able to make the decision to leave, and I'm glad that he's happy and healthy. Creators shouldn't have to throw away their own happiness and their health because toxic people are screaming at them to continue.
I was a huge Filthy Frank fan, and through the years as he'd post music I'd find myself thinking, "damn, this is good, maybe he should try some serious stuff". So while I was sad that the Frank channel slowly died, he's made some really great music that I love (and would love regardless of if I knew him before or not), and I'm so glad the dude is thriving. It's SUCH an unlikely success story and I love it.
I remember being so intrigued by his joji persona that i was scouting the internet for leaks and unreleased joji tracks and fan edits. I still have a folder with old/unreleased/deleted joji tracks in a folder on my backup drive. Rly proud of him and his masterful transition.
holy shit same lmao. i remember how niche his joji fans were at the time and the excitement of receiving something new. even though i was huge supporter of his joji alias, i was very disappointed when he gave up filthyfrank. obviously now we couldn’t be more happy for him & how much he has grown.
Thank you patrick for consistently uploading high quality content, you have kept me entertained for like the past 3 years. The community appreciates you more than you could know.
I can't even begin to imagine what it must have been like to share with millions of people something as serious as a condition, only for a big portion of them to spit back at him. Especially considering UA-cam was surely ready to crack down on him on a dime for his content. I hope he's the version of himself he always envisioned he wanted to be, maybe even better yet!
I remember watching Filthy Frank with my brother. Years later I heard Joji’s music and loved it so much. My brother told me Joji and FF were the same person and I couldn’t believe it! I’m so proud that he’s been able to grow to this capacity and hope he only continues to grow from here!
When he left youtube it felt abrupt to me. It felt like he abandoned us, his fans. I always liked his music and wanted more serious beats, but it was almost hard to listen to them after he left Filthy Frank. It was hard to shake the feelings brought up by his departure. Like a dad trying to coming back into the life of a child after they've grown up. Now that time has past and I've grown a bit older and a bit wiser, I understand why he did it and that this was always the plan. I'm glad he got to be who he always wanted to be and I think that is the most beautiful, unofficial, underlying plot to Filthy Frank. That sometimes you have to endure filth in order to metamorphosize into a better you.
I’ve been waiting for a deep dive docu on Filthy Frank. Many people have done videos but never really explained more in depth. This is me before watching the video, I hope this one goes deeper 3 min in and I haven’t seen details like this before!! Bravo Patrick P.s I’ve went to an 88rising concert a few years ago and he does chuckle a lil bit when people shout FF slurs. Just be discreet, I yelled “ love you pink guy” before he started a song and he chuckled and went “thank you” he still knows, just don’t be a troll or it gets annoying
There have been video essays made on the legacy of George and Filthy Frank from start to finish, from when he was 15 in his bedroom to a musician. I’m sure if you look it up you’ll find it
Your last mentioned info actually gives me so much peace. Some people always worry about that George hates Frank nowadays. I think that he is a very silly and sarcastic dude in general. You can still see his kind of humour in his work as Joji, which makes me happy all the time. Also when he talks about it, you can sometimes still see him trying to hide a grin. ;) He's a serious artist nowadays, but he is still a very funny, sarcastic and just hilarious person. So, something so iconic about him has probably never fully changed. He just doesn't continue the work of Frank. But Frank and this sort of humour is part of his character.
George has been a huge part of my youth, I love that I was the generation that grew up with the filth and managed to see him grow so much to become a great musician
This dude is inspirational .. he came from a pretty bad background to one of the most iconic UA-camrs and then became someone who makes heavenly music .
I miss being in middle school and sharing Filthy Frank videos with my homies, quoting his videos and shit like that. 2015-2016 was such a good time man. I'm not the biggest fan of Joji's music but I'm curious to see where his future will go from here and I wish him great success
I've been there for this crazy, edgy ride on The Filthy Frank Show and now I keep track of his music career as Joji. I'm just so proud of George, he really made it. Golden Boy of the best meme era, and extraordinary music producer and singer. Sky is the limit for this dude.
His newest song atm, "glimpse of us" is amazing, and has a crazy video compellation of his more chaotic moments xD also looks like its best performing work to date, if its not already its definitely on track to be. Love joj
@@Bootsie606 I looked into this and your 100% right. So Thank you sir [: I still think it is a good representation of his Filthy Frank videos as many of them had this sorta central idea of chaos and mischief. The director did an amazing job though!

It just saddens me how much the “fanbase” just didn’t want to let him be himself. Even to the point that what they wanted from him was literally detrimental to his own health. 😢 I am forever grateful to have watched his content 2015 onward til his last vid. And I’m happy to now follow his music currently, and love it as much as I loved his content way back when. ☺️
growing up with filthy frank, and even being a fan of "the joji music" back in the day, it made me both so happy and so sad to see his transition. I was happy for George, but sad to say goodbye to these belovedly raunchy characters. someone else in the comments said he left youtube at the right time, and I 100% agree.
I think he really is one of the best UA-camrs ever on the platform, he built a perfect ending, and he was literally the UA-camr of his time and he ultimately demonstrated that he's able to adapt not die, and he's incredibly intelligent and talented. That is the person that, aside from a few bumps here and there with who he was, we want representing UA-camrs I think to go
Bruh i live in new zealand and heard joji's latest single 'glimpse of us' on the radio for the first time ever the other day. I couldnt believe it. Im so happy for him, his music has helped me through some tough times, he deserves everything.
He's so smart, the way he has done things is just amazing. He even left the channel, i bet he misses uploading videos from time to time, but you cant chase two things in the same time, gotta do what you love more and thats what i respect the most. To this day he remains my favorite youtuber, whichs is kinda crazy since i watch a lot of them but no one comes close to frank.
I like your perspective on this one. Seen a few FF documentaries and I wasn't expecting this content to feel fresh. You showing how he slowly eased into the music scene... It shows his brilliance. He knew his worth and calculated his path to fame.
I remember watching Filthy frank as a wee little tot (Im 16 now so imagine how young i had to be) thanks to my older brother. I stumbled upon Joji thanks to tiktok and other social media and was BLOWN AWAY discovering it was Frank!! Granted, I hadn't seen Joji's face before that but I digress!! It amazed me that it was the same guy, but also gave me reason as to why I immediately liked his music. His voice had a familiar sound to it and I couldn't figure out why until I found out who he used to be and thought "Yeah this is same guy who sung HELP for sure". I'm mad people didn't take to his softer music so well in the beginning, because it's downright gorgeous, but I'm also glad he didn't let the backlash stop him from reaching his ultimate goal. Well done George
were you just like stuck in your high chair throwing spaghetti all over then looked at someone’s computer and saw pink guy bathing in ramen and you were like “EAURLLL! 🤤🎉”
@emmeapps2055 My brother would record his videos on his ds (later on my dsi after I got one and he broke his) when we'd go to our grandma's and have internet. He took up all my memory but at least it was for good content
I just wanna say my journey with George started at a very young age. I will be seeing him preform live in 2 weeks after years of seeing him only my phone screen and words can’t explain. I’m so happy he did what he did 💓
It’s crazy how completely different filthy frank/pink guy is from Joji. I’m sure everyone misses filthy frank, but you can’t help but to be happy for Joji’s success in the things that he pursue.
Just saw Joji in Vancouver, front row pit in front of the master himself. After following him the past decade it was the greatest show of my 44 year life. Have never been more inspired!!
been around since dizasta music and lemme say this, I'm so happy George could finally spread his wings and fly at his own pace and when he wanted to, not when he was forced to. I feel like I got to grow up with george on youtube and I'm happy as an adult that I now have joji to grow old with.
I didn't even watch Filthy Frank and I think I've only listened to like one of Joji's song. But his story is so heartbreaking yet comforting in the same way. He was able to escape Frank to pursue what he found most joy in.
As joji is someone who was my childhood as filthy frank and joji for so long, then he retired and became Joji I didn’t even discover joji till 2020 despite loving pink guy/filthy frank and I’ve loved it since. To be fair I was 12 at 2020 so I didn’t really get it much other than me seeing filthy frank and pink guy being dumb in a funny way. Thank you so much for making these videos THEYRE so interesting and now you’ve done one of my fav you tubers/artists of all time and one of my most listened to (crazy that I listened to all of ballads 1 a few hours before seeing this.) I love what he’s doing, I love what you’re doing, bless you my man.
So brilliant. Not a huge fan of Joji's music cuz I'm not big on that type of music, but I LOVE his success. Also his label 88 Rising has some artists I absolutely love. Higher Brothers are amazing.
I remember watching the Filthy Frank Exposed video when it came out and I never thought about the condition that gave him seizures. Within the past few years, I've been diagnosed with stress induced seizures. I can totally empathize with wanting to quit. Stress seizures are scary because you can't always control how stressed you are.

I read all the current filthy frank channel comments and it shows that all of the Filthy Frank Fans have grown as people. We all realized we shouldn't be sad it ended, but rather happy that we got to experience it. Also it seems that more Frank fans (including me) are liking Joji music so that's cool too.
Going back and looking at Filthy Frank videos with a fresh set of eyes many years later makes me realize how stressful it must have been for him. He was a college student balancing music and school and a youtube career all on top of that. Poor kid :(
Dude is literally a genius. Joji worked hard for his success, and even though I'll never be as much of a fan of his music as I was his comedy, I still appreciate what he's done for himself. Truly a legend who I hope will never be forgotten.
i love him sm still, i remember when he had his soundcloud hidden in his descriptions of how videos and love how he's grown as an artist past youtube because that lil ep on his soundcloud was only listened to by still a small portion of his viewers and im glad he took time to part with papa franku
he created a character that people loved and valued so much and too much, even if he wanted to abandon that character everyone who got attached deep into it will either hate him or be sad about it, of course some peoples would still support him and love him no matter what he does. I think his transition from a goofy character to a chill guy is such a huge journey and challenge because he's leaving something that people got used to and doing something new, he has this constant worry and stress if he'll succeed or not because he has no guarantee of what will happen. Im happy he managed to transition to the character he is today and im happy that he's happy at what he's doing.
Great timing of this video! After releasing “glimpse of us” a few days ago, you can really see how far he’s gone as a musician, man has absolute talent!!
The "Filthy Frank" Strategy needs to be used and realized more by rappers. A successful example would be Tyler the Creator. A bad example would be Lil Pump. The First half of Tylers career was immature, offensive, and fun. Then he sat back for a couple years, made an okay mixed reviewed album, grew with his Audience, & released Flowerboy. Lil Pump hasn't shown any sign of "Maturing" or taking his music serious. His "Filthy Frank" era is still going since like 2016 & his Audience out grew him. Either way, if Joji just stayed as Filthy Frank, I don't think he ever would've peaked higher then he was when he changed "careers"
As much as I loved filthy frank, especially as an edgy teen at that time, im really happy he transitioned into joji music full time because I know I wouldn't be watching filthy frank content today even if youtube accepted it. But as joji I still consume his content he's a big inspiration for me
This video gives me chills. His music and comedy got me through the dark times for a decade and counting. Hes my top artist on soundcloud and spotify. I wish i could thank him for everything.
RIP Filthy Frank. I've been following his journey for so long. It's incredible how things have worked out for him. I'm genuinely happy for him. What a legendary guy.
Honestly: nobody deserves success quite like him. His youtube comedy never legitimately harmed anyone or preyed upon people (outside some slight shock like moaning at inopportune times, looking for rats in garbage, squeezing cash out of a fleshlight, eating ravioli out of his pocket, etc). He was crass and edgy, but it was all in good taste; he touched on heavier stuff like suicidal ideation, self destructive tendencies, and self-loathing through his videos but it was never in a mocking or mean way - it was him expressing his internal world or the world of the characters he was representing. As he shifted into music he blended the two and we got some seriously edgy songs out of it (I wasnt around in the FF scene at the time, the recession meant no internet for me til 2014 again around the time I was graduating), but again it was more on-point for his persona as far as I could tell. Shifting to music he managed to create an entirely new sound for himself, market a completely new identity, and despite the shift in gears from Frank to Joji: his fans supported him for it. He seems like a genuinely decent human being and he deserves all his success. He's the type of individual UA-cam should be birthing more of, as opposed to the spoiled, parasitic assbags that typically get successful off the platform anymore.
I was never really into that sort of content but joji is living proof that people can change. I remember when he was on a podcast with post malone and h3h3 and looked insanely uncomfortable at the “jokes” they were making. it’s something that filthy frank character would’ve unapologetically agreed with. it goes to show a lot of people pass that type of behavior off as comedy when it’s really something they think
How is that proof that he’s changed. Filthy Frank is a character (always was). Just because Frank would agree with something doesn’t mean Joji would (this is especially apparent in the deleted videos that show Frank and Joji interacting).
One thing to add with the Pink guy music videos: even if they're classified as "meme" rap, he put effort into it. The vocals are great and so was the music. Even the most offensive songs he made sound really good. People knew he was good at music beforehand, so i think that also smoothened the genre switch
hey man thank you so much for telling his story how it was, beautifully told and i hope that this video opens up the eyes of a lot of people cause what george did was what some people take all their life to figure out. So thank you
I'd been a fan of Joji since he was making videos as DizastaMusic in 2012, I grew with him and it was a beautiful process. Dude is an untouchable legend
Thanks for this Joji-journey! Truly well documented and insightful. I never got on the Filthy Frank or pink guy train. I did however watch some compilation that included his bit with the depressed alien that comes to earth. In that clip the alien has this beautiful lines that talk about being human, love, and generally living. It ends really goofy but it hit me emotionally enough to wonder what I had missed. Then I found his then freshly released video for Demons and Will he. And I was totally hooked. Thank you for sharing and putting this timeline together!
This guy is himself a masterclass, i "grew" with him. He mades me laugh, he mades me cry, and his transition was absolutly great ! He is a real inspiration
The 88 rising concert was amazing. I wish they would come to my hometown again. Joji’s live performance couldn’t of been any better. And he was also sick when he was performing but still gave an amazing performance
Pretty sad to see how unsupportive a lot of people were after he opened up about his health issues and the state of Filthy Frank. I'm glad everything worked out for him in the end with his music career.
loooooooooooooooooooool they just acted like he did CANCER how can you hate that and feel awful guy was insensitive him self and use to make fun of people dieing so yeah think about that hahahaha
Filthy Frank helped me get through my divorce and depression. By the time Frank was done I had started to get my life together. I’ll miss Filthy Frank. But I do love Joji’s music and I’m happy he’s doing what he truly wants. R.I.P Francis of The Filth. Papa Fanku. Fanku-sama. Filthy Frank.
If what I’ve heard is true and George’s dad was a pastor at the Catholic Church in Japan, and was also a professor taught English lessons, it kind of makes sense he’d sing in a choir. And get two crosses tattooed on him without even really associating with Christianity. In a very atheist country, his mom was also religious and apparently told him he’d go to Hell.
Filthy Frank was the greatest UA-camr of all time and nobody will ever change my mind. His videos were hilarious at the time and are still funny to me. Then he realized his time had come and ended his time as Frank and became Joji. I really like Joji’s music, especially Nectar. I’m excited for whenever he drops another album. Run was in my top 10 songs of 2020.
Those videos still come on my recommended sometimes and I always watch them for old times sake. Some of the stuff filthyfrank said was way ahead of it's time
I have never seen joji's content that much just heard about him many times and very few videos only but still everytime i hear his story i really feel kinda sad and glad at a same time
I was a huge fan of Filthy Frank and while I was sad to see the character end, I'm more happy seeing Joji do what he loves and become a success from it.

his music slaps so how can anyone complain? I basically grew up on Filthy Frank but I wasn't just there for Frank, I loved Joji and his music too. I still remember when he first linked his soundcloud and I heard "medicine beat" and it was the most beautiful thing I heard, he never made it longer because he said he liked "short and sweet", a statement which motivates me even today as I make music and film.

Filthy frank was my childhood but I'm happy he moved on
The "Filthy Frank" Strategy needs to be used and realized more by rappers.
True
As much as I loved filthy frank, especially as an edgy teen at that time, im really happy he transitioned into joji music full time because I know I wouldn't be watching filthy frank content today even if youtube accepted it. But as joji I still consume his content he's a big inspiration for me
you should still watch his videos they are still very funny.
also just because his jokes are offensive doesn't mean that they are attacking you
This video gives me chills. His music and comedy got me through the dark times for a decade and counting. Hes my top artist on soundcloud and spotify. I wish i could thank him for everything.
As someone who knew him when he lived in queens, NY. He was a super chill dude. Happy to see him flourishing.
Jojis music helped me get through a lot of troubling times. He is a national treasure that we must protect.

So thank you
I didn’t even know joji was filthy frank. I think that shows how different they are. I’m glad he was able to make such a shift and still be successful
Love Joji’s music more than his YT stuff personally, glad he was able to branch out and made it big
Thank you for making such a high quality video! Joji is an unbelievable musical talent!
I'm glad everything worked out for him in the end with his music career.
considering his fanbase was mostly teenage edgelords at the time, it's not exactly a surprise. It still must have been very tough for him.
@@echodelta2172 huh exactly what kind of people do you expect to watch Filthy Frank
loooooooooooooooooooool they just acted like he did CANCER how can you hate that and feel awful guy was insensitive him self and use to make fun of people dieing so yeah think about that hahahaha
@@echodelta2172 considering he was a edgelord lol no shit his fans just acted like he did XD
@@jeffinjoseph8916 ikr people so dumb waaa he got bullied yet that was his content XD
Filthy Frank was hilarious but he couldn’t do that forever. I’m glad he’s doing his own thing which makes him happy.
He looks pretty sad tbh
There will always be enough shit for him to rant about tbh
Some of the stuff filthyfrank said was way ahead of it's time
If you think that trash is funny you need to grow up LMFAO
I’ve been around since 2014 and there’s still a bunch of videos I still haven’t seen yet
Haven't missed a video In the past 2 months. Loving the content Patrick!
