Yes it’s only stated 4 times in the anime in so it’s easy to miss. Her father raised her as a man to fit the ideals of a brigand leader as he wanted her to succeed him. You can also see clearly that she is a girl wearing a kimono(a dress) in the ending of the 2019 adaptation of dororo

It is first stated in episode 9 by the nun that took care of Dororo when she’s sick that it’s hard for Hyakkimaru to travel with a young girl and also Dororo ask Hyakkimaru if he sees her naked When the nun wash her clothes and got no respond

I'm a purist, I guess. I prefer the 1969 version because it looks close to Tezuka's style. For me, He was able to use simplicity to tell a dark, genuinely messed up story while still keeping a serious tone. I HIGHLY respect the 2019 series because it easily nails the tone Tezuka was going for by bringing it into a more gritty reality...but for me it feels like it lost a little of the heart that the original had. I'm probably the only one with this opinion. Lol!
