Guessing the reason for the IEC power connector is for compatibility in certain spaces. If you’re in a school theatre for example, loosing a True1 cable is going to be far more problematic than an IEC.
27:40 Tablet mode isn't the only way to get the on-screen keyboard, if you right-click task bar (click and hold) you can enable the touch keyboard button on the taskbar.
The built in pc really made me think of the Avid Venue mixing consoles which also runing windows, it's a bit weird to see a consumer level operating system running on a pro gear personally. Think of you are doing a show and windows just ask you to reboot and update your system or windows defender is scanning in the background slowing down the system. Always having a backup image of the operating system for these bad boys is quite important in case some day someone plugs a drive with malware or windows update messed up the system. Anyway, thank you Christian for such a great video, hoping MA can make both hardware and software improvements.
I know sweet F A about MA... however... A hugely missed opportunity by MA here to make the command wing PC support two hot pluggable SFF-sized modules. The power supply could be on the console and a proprietary connector would give the modules GigE and a 12V/5V DC rail for components. As you suggested Christian, the lack of ethercon is disappointing as MA would be able to set up an internal network switch that, and you could actually switch out multiple consoles attached to the session! (Also, redundancy! Hardware can just die!!)
def has been commented already but you can just search for "On screen keyboard" in the start menu and open it while still in desktop mode with as many monitors as your GPU supports. great vid as usual :)
Nice studio setup! It would be cool if it had Thunderbolt 3 to plug in an external GPU and still use it for visuals if you wanted to/ for a small installation setup.
Typing... Without a keyboard... Trick is open menu start > accessibility > onscreen keyboard. That works without a keyboard, only need touchscreen/mouse. Pro tip; stick it to your toolbar so it'll stay there, even if it isn't used. Also, this keyboard will work with tabletmode ánd without.
letterbox screens are better imo as a small display wouldn't be big enough for any real use other than a name. The most useful info is the cue stack or type of executor for eg GO_R, which is already displayed on the letterbox, it would only make the console more expensive and would take up more real estate on the surface meaning you wouldn't have the space for the 2 rows of pot executors.
The ETC Eos desks do this pretty well, they have OLED screens above each fader that display info on the submaster or cue stack you have assigned to the fader.
Thanks for the review. We recently got this console at school. And it was very useful for me to learn about all this, since I had only worked in SunliteSuite before and YARILO Open DMX interface whith Q Light Controller. Greetings from Russia and peace to the world! ✌
You can buy the MA2 Command Wing Tourpack, so you get a monitor with a build in computer, it is simply running a Windows7, i think. Its the same as with this, only that the computer is on a different location in the case. And yes it has many Pros and Cons, but a Windows Update i have never seen in all the Time, only 2year old software on it and made me put my hands over my head. i think they can clearly have a install without you asking for an update. Plus: I havent had any Show where you got Internet on the Lan you put in the CommandWing. ,-)
hello alright Christian, I'm from Brazil and I really like your channel, even though I have to translate it into Portuguese I still like it very much congratulations
I am a fan of the MA3 command wing, it has its issues, but mostly just due to buggy software. Also a huge fan of the buttons, was super used to the MA2 buttons going into it but I quickly learned that im a huge fan. Wish it had 4 dmx out instead of 3 out and 1 in, but it is how it is. Definitely a great option for anyone wanting to use MA3 on a console without dishing out the money for a full console. I've gotten to love it over the 5 or so months ive been able to use it. Overall pretty impressed.
Would've also been nice if it had the option to run as just a wing. Like the old Martin M2Go's. That was always a super useful feature on that console. Especially if the internal pc plays up, then you can just plug your laptop in and flick it into usb mode and keep the show running. Otherwise it's a very neat addition for MA's small console range!
The missing Master Fader is sad... I really love it when I do shows where I don't know the band, when they do like fade out the music or something, I just have the blinders and maybe backdrop not reacting to Master and can be like, ok, band fades, light fades too.
As I’m sure you know you can still have a Grand Master you just assign it to a fader of your choice, the two long faders are definitely intended for masters

I was going to comment a question but I’ve forgot what it was Edit: I remember. I guess IEC connector is a “compatibility” choice: if you’re taking a compact setup on tour you have a power cable that can be found locally and not from a “professional” store... I guess that’s the reason... That’s why in every rack i build i put both powecon and IEC inlet... as an emergency feature

MA could have used IEC for the power since true one is very uncommon outside of the show world. I know if i was using it to supplement home programming it is a lot easier to source an IEC cable since if for some reason I loose it since i have a box of them in the basement.. I dont have any true one in my house.
This is exactly the reason for IEC on the Command Wing and Command Wing XT. Just like replacing a monitor on the road at a local store, it’s easier to find an IEC cable at a local store or any computer in the venue.
The Dot2 Series has IEC Connectors as well. At least the EU Version in Germany has. Question: You talked about the live tracking backup, are you able to use the XT-Wing as a pure input device via USB (like a normal command wing) in case the build in PC dies for whatever reason?
27:30 I have a Grand MA2 On PC Command Wing with 2 elo touch screen monitors and they both work with their touchscreens. I don't understand why it wouldn't work like that. (im also running windows 10)
As far as I know, they removed the click function on the encoders, because if they were pushed in to hard, they broke the PCB underneith it, so MA decided to remove the feature all together on every new MA3 product from now on

Hi Christian. Can an EDM show look good with 48 COLORado 2 Quad Zoom fixtures? I'm planning on putting on a performance and that's what the venue has, along with the MA 120120 on PC command wing and 120125 on MC on PC fader wing.
Hmm...magnetic fader appliques? Meanwhile, Midas and other Audio desks have digital "scribble-strips" which label fader input/output strips dynamically. You still can't get a free ride on the sound truck just because the lights don't weigh so much.
I got an XT on PC too. Same issue with second screen. You mentioned a fix. But then moved on. Then cut to show file loaded at 29.09. And have two screens. How did you get second screen to work!
I assume you've already figured this out but for others who read your comment Christian mentions on screen at 26:40 "All touch screen config done in control panel of windows" and says "It literally is a windows 10 install." I assume he's getting at the fact that you need to close/minimize the onPC software to get into WIN10 environment and then go through 'Display Settings' to setup any additional monitors (ie. Mulitiple Monitors, Extended Display, etc...). Hope this helps.
Great video very professional looking. Now to the main deal. When was it ACT lighting I've always know it as A C T. Im so confused everything Ive know is a lie.
Is a grandMA comanderwing onpc 3 on its own pc. A decent setup for live use in combination with an akai apc40 with beyond on a separate pc and this connected via artnet. Or are there better solutions for? Because would like to be able to operate a small light setup of moving heads and beam bars together. Up to a maximum of 100 DMX fixtures and 16 lasers Thanks for the info
Since this is just a Windows PC: could you give us some info about the hardware as reported by Task-Manager, Settings etc? Especially CPU, RAM, GPU? Would be interesting to know what they are using. Given combination the retail-price 6400€ above the non-XT, and the power draw of 100VA, i am rather certain that for all but the most restricted use-cases, a separate machine is the way to go
Are you allowed to share the actual pc specs? I wouldn't want to run a ton of touch designer stuff but it would be nice to be able to run a minimal backup resolume composition just to be safe.
I was excited about this but I think it's kind of weird that they actually just threw a PC into the wing and charge an extra $5k... I was hoping it would at least run kind of how Martin did their M2PC vs M2Go where it runs like an actual console instead of just an added computer inside of it.
Guys, can you tell me what is the best screen touch and what size must be. I use command wing xt in night club so do need to travel or etc. What is these monitors and stand for it? TIA.
I don't know anything about MA3, so I'm wondering: Can it run MA2 and if yes, what hardware features (like the motorized faders for example) work there?

my wish for the MA4 line of devices would be that every exec fader would have a little screen above it i which the stored cue would be displayed

I had some chances to work on a ma3 Light crv and compact xt over a month and somehow i still don't like the new layout....maybe im too fixed on the Gma1 & 2
Why:
- The Set, next, prev Cross on the bottom right is gone and went to the upper section... The next-store-screen maneuver with the pinky and thumb is not possible anymore unless you sacrifice some exec for macros... Or you get slower because your hand is now flying all over the console.
- No backup Button anymore... Either you do the long way over Menu, Backup and save or you use a macro... I think there will be a command layer in my showfile... 🤔
- No GM fader unless you sacrifice one, because the steps of the rotary are a joke.
- The USB port on the front is predestined to be runned off by a sleepy or not cautious Operator.
- The screen angle is sometimes weird.... You can tilt the Waffle Maker to a certain angle. If you need a flatter angle (because you are sitting for example) you have no chance to correct it... Somehow i miss the yellow shroom and motor screens.
- The screens are now capacitive and not resistive.... Maybe thats ok. But if you want to use your Fingernail or pen for more precision, buy a new stylus for capacitive screens because it doesnt work anymore... And buy a bottle of screen or glass cleaner, because they get messy much faster.
- Ethernet 1-3 are officially allround Ports referred to the manual... That's a lie at least you work in ma2 mode for stability reasons... Still MA-net on 1, ArtNet on 2.... Maybe it works on ma3 mode.
- no locking with ma+fix anymore unless you have a external keyboard and can press pause.

Which screen are you using ?
wow that lighting in your studio is really cool, did you have a professional lighting expert set it u..... oh wait
Would be funny if you would install Sunlite suite 1 on this
Great video very professional looking.
Now to the main deal. When was it ACT lighting I've always know it as A C T. Im so confused everything Ive know is a lie.
For the issue of hires having the ROOT access to Windows can be fixed with User accounts
Would love to see a Cinebench run on this
Where are you, Christian for two years?
We still waiting for your new videos.
Not a big fan of the position of the X-Keys Either. Let me know if that messes you up majorly. I know they're integral in my workflow
You can have more than 1 touch screen there is software to do that and is free and you can set orientation to it as well
Is a grandMA comanderwing onpc 3 on its own pc.
A decent setup for live use in combination with an akai apc40 with beyond on a separate pc and this connected via artnet.
Or are there better solutions for?
Because would like to be able to operate a small light setup of moving heads and beam bars together.
Up to a maximum of 100 DMX fixtures and 16 lasers
Thanks for the info
Since this is just a Windows PC: could you give us some info about the hardware as reported by Task-Manager, Settings etc? Especially CPU, RAM, GPU? Would be interesting to know what they are using. Given combination the retail-price 6400€ above the non-XT, and the power draw of 100VA, i am rather certain that for all but the most restricted use-cases, a separate machine is the way to go
I’ll be including that info in the review video
@@christianjackson Thank you!

there are ways to strap down windows for a rental situation. for very little cost.
What do you think of AVOLITES T3
what led bar fixtures are being used in this video
You can get an onscreen keyboard by pinning it to your start menu.
How did you end up configuring the 2nd monitor? My new board isn't detecting it for some reason
Is there a way to have a count of parameters your showfile is using? Since it isn't tied directly to DMX channels?
Shane it's still limited to 4096 parameters
Yeah that was an interesting choice. I thought the 3 would have had more onpc parameters
Are you allowed to share the actual pc specs? I wouldn't want to run a ton of touch designer stuff but it would be nice to be able to run a minimal backup resolume composition just to be safe.
I wouldn’t use it for that.
I was excited about this but I think it's kind of weird that they actually just threw a PC into the wing and charge an extra $5k... I was hoping it would at least run kind of how Martin did their M2PC vs M2Go where it runs like an actual console instead of just an added computer inside of it.
what high power laptops would you suggest to look at to work with the GrandMA3.....???????
Guys, can you tell me what is the best screen touch and what size must be. I use command wing xt in night club so do need to travel or etc. What is these monitors and stand for it? TIA.
Thanks for the German Subtitles!
I don't know anything about MA3, so I'm wondering: Can it run MA2 and if yes, what hardware features (like the motorized faders for example) work there?
IIRC the MA3 command wing doesn't support MA2-Mode.
Christian makes me happy.
hell yeah
What framerate does it get in minesweeper
damn christian that b roll tho wow amazing
Can it run resolume tho?
So, that was the “GrandMA3” then imagine the “GrandPA3” XD ... which sounds like an audio mixer name by the way
