Sony ZV1 vs Rx100Vii Part 1 Surprising Results!!!

- Hello. I had the chance to purchase and test the ZV1 and I compared it with my rx100vii. I expected great results from the ZV1. I thought the ZV1 would win on video and lose on photo. Well as I got into the footage I was surprised to see the rx100vii having better results in clarity and skin tones. Both cameras were in standard profile with setting to match. My video has gotten longer because I keep testing. Also, I think the internal mics on the rx sound better than the ZV1. I know that's crazy.... Please watch both parts and subscribe!!!

I am so glad that I bought ZV-1. With F/1.8 the shallow depth of field is amazing and it has a dedicated button to increase the bokeh too. Huge saving!
I bought the ZV-1 and I only knew about the M7 later. Even though I am a point and shoot guy LOVING zoom (coming from a Sony DSC HX60) I don't mind having the ZV-1. I am not even vlogging or anything but the flip screen and better bokeh also speaks for the ZV-1. Great review, a bit unlike all the other reviews out there.
Good comparison. The RX seems like a much better camera -- does both photos and video. i wish the zx1 had a longer zoom.

And if it was longer, you'd have much less light. Better to use your feet to zoom?
One thing I've notice about the rx100 many times in other comparison videos is that once there's low light, picture quality degrades randomly, fps drops and lags, honestly looks kinda cheap when this happens. Same problem is not present on the zv1 from what I can see here 12:12 which looks pretty smooth no matter what light condition.
late reply but its a feature called auto slow shutter, which is usually on. that feature lowers the shutter speed to avoid noise in low light and that causes the stuttering. that feature is also on zv1. its best for if the camera is static and the scene is further away.
I love your test, but it would have been great if the settings on both cameras would have been comparable.
I am sure they are not (in this video) but the fact that you also don't mention them makes me think you did everything on the auto mode in the ZV-1 while you (as a photographer) have set perfect adjustments for the V7.
Of course, the V7 is the better camera, but for those that want to make video content, and don't care about photography, I think the ZV 1 is much better than it's shown in this review.
Zv1 probably is on mode Wind noise reduction On, because it sounds like you're underwater. Turn off the Wind noise reduction and you'll hear day-night difference audio.
NOTES FOR ME: zv1 crops too much, ZV1's colors are a little more vibrant, RX100vii audio sounds better, zv1 seems to handle darkness better?, low skin softening on the ZV1 doesn't really seem to make a difference compared to the RX
ZV1 handles darkness fabulously - F1.8 - F2.8 Zeiss glass. I got the night shots to prove it :)
You can vlog all night with it ;-)
The mic on ZV1 is very good actually.In this comparison, he forgot to turn off the "Wind Noise Reduction" that resulted in this.

From the samples, it seems the ZV1 has better image quality while the RX100 has better zoom and audio. But I'm more interested in the photos.
I love the way you do your reviews, just raw real which is awesome. I have the Rx100 and use this for my UA-cam channel (check it out if you want) and got it way before the zv1 came out. Love the rx100!

Not sure if it's the settings or not (and I have not seen any comments here yet but I think they'll be echoing my observation), the audio on the VII is much better. The ZV1 sounds so tinny yet in other vodeos, folks have raved that the audio is very good. Here, the m7 kicks its butt. Sounds like a typical scheister scenario where the manufacturer creates a product for a certain purpose yet something else not specifically designed for that purpose is much better at it. Oh, and that product just happens to cost a lot more lol. The mic on the V7 should be on the ZV1 as that is the dedicated vlogging device. Will the ZV2 have it? Possibly, but likely only if they put an even better mic on the mVIII when it comes out. Clever marketing, I say. Conclusion... I'd personally take the m7 over the ZV1 all around.

In ur video , I still see zv1 best for vloging . Vivid bright colour, though audio sounds better in RX, but more pricey. Depends on what u need now.
But with ZV1 fastest way to go between video and photo mode without having to go through the menus?

The RX100 seems substantially better. Sound is also awful on the ZV1.
Edit, I believe the wind noise cut was on, on the ZV1 and the sound is actually good on the ZV1 when that is off.
Yes you are right. I have a ZV1.The Wind Noise Reduction is definitely set to ON in this comparison.

I have a Sony RX100 VI and I wonder about the good image stabilizer in movie mode on the RX100 VII from you. As I make mainly hiking videos in the mountains the movie recording in 4K is somehow like without any stabilizer. Besides of that the RX 100 VI is a great cam, but because I do hiking videos I ponder about to sell it and buy a ZV1. Just what I saw is that the ZV1 has a tinge of red as you were in the room and the recording is also not so sharp like tze RX100 VII ... hmm ...
artfantasies I would not use it for a hiking style video because the stabilization on both cameras would be ugh. The GoPro hero eight has Me very spoiled when it comes to stabilization
That is very surprising, that the RX100 has the better audio.
Lemon Tree Betr, unless there is wind. But on-board camera mics are never the best. Manufacturers, however, play an endless game of trying to pretend that somehow, the latest camera has better audio, and we get sucked into it, and are then disappointed.
@@artistjoh No that's not my point. The ZV1 has a 100x bigger mic area and even lost the flash because of that. One would assume it must have a much better mic then. You can also put a deadcat on the RX100 mics for wind protection. I did that and it works great.
Yes as they said the ZV1 has three internal mics, I was assuming/hoping it would have better sound than the RX100m7, as i would think they needed that 3rd mic for some sort of M/S(Mid-Side) stereo set up.
💥 I am a portrait photographer with lots of lighting gear. When I’m shouting with something this tiny I need a pop up flash. Who’s lugging around an external speedlight with them and not everyone is shooting midday in the sun.

Zv1 is too close. It needs true 16mm with stabilisation on then it would be perfect
RX looks better to me, and it has a viewfinder in case you want to use it as an actual camera

I own a Rx100 m6, im not liking the stabilizer for videos nor the 2.8 lens i find its too dark. I mainly use my camera for family videos and pics. Would you say its worth ( for the things I dnt like on my camera)getting a ZV-1 ?
Yes ! You can buy mine now. Ha it’s on eBay. With Black Friday you can find a deal. The zv1 has the 1.8 lens and the flip screen. It also has active steady shot which is ok but for better stab you can Rec in no stab and 250+ shutter and use the free catalyst software to stab the footage in post. Yes it’s a pain but it’s an option. Or if you want the viewfinder get the rx100va. Thx please sub

I have had the m7 since late October and use it with the R2 Rubber grip from Sony and a Magnetic ring for ND + UV so only the low light and three Mic elements of the ZV1 intrigued me.
Does the 4K recording overheat like on the M7 ?
Which is a pain when it shuts off after 10/12min of continual recording

I think when it’s set to normal heat it will stop after 5min like the mark4/5/6 does

30p would be better as that will heat up faster/more

ZV1 is far better for video
RX100vii has better stabilization video. "Intelligent Active" mode. ZV-1 has only "Active". it makes a difference.
On other videos the zv1 audio sounds great.. not the case here. Rx clearly better audio :)

@A P what do you think? The "UA-camr" hype camera or the serious hybrid camera. I'll give you a hint, one has purposely oversaturated colors to appeal to wannabe UA-cam vloggers, the other one has accurate color reproduction for serious photo/cinematographers

In your test ist the zv1 in bokeh video... Your in the focus and the background in bokeh. In the rx100 it's all same clear and good
AYEM Family the zv1 has the faster lens which will give you that bokeh effect.

You're going into all the super basic stuff... I just wanted to know if there's any major issues in using the RX100VII for vlogging - you know those really nasty gotchas, you can run into...
