    Beautiful! I’m so glad to see there is at least one school teaching this almost lost art form.
    Taxidermist are so hard to find anymore
    I seen a special that there’s only one left in New York and he’s in his late 60’s.

    What an incredible art form this is. I've never seen any other art imitate life so accurately. Andy is a passionate purveyor of realism.

    Andy Speer has a level of talent and experience that is completely off the charts. 90% of master-level taxidermists cannot make it look that good. I can promise you taxidermy work is not that easy. The attention to detail and realism is incredible. If Andy Speer charges $1,000 bucks for a deer, it's still not enough for the quality of work.

    I just got myself a shoulder mount because I got a good price and intended to resell it.
    I come from a town and culture where no one has taxidermy.
    Thing is, I took that deer out of the box and it is so gorgeous I think I started a new hobby/obsession.
    I love animals and they're great alive and great however I want to enjoy them.

      @@tinahays4464 I bought it, and I see mounts on sale online on eBay, Etsy, and other places, so how is it illegal?

      @@morehn I am not sure in your state. In many many states, if not all, you can not BUY any type of wild animal parts or pieces or meat including mounts. The only way this can be done is with a permit given by the official governing body IE... wildlife commission. May not be the case in your state but I know in most southern states that's the law. The only time I have heard of it is when a taxidermist has mounts the people never came to get and they can apply for a permit to sale for the covered cost. In north Carolina they would not give a taxidermist one. They say to bad that's the cost of doing business. as far as you seeing something for sale on the internet, that has 0 to do with the law and if its illegal or not. lot of things for sale in the world, don't make it legal.The reason for the law is some crooked ass low lifes would be killing wildlife and mounting to make a living. that's why. same goes for the meat. you cant sale wild meat legally.

      MattryanDP we agree. It is hard to hear on certain devices. We didn’t notice it while it was in studio and uploaded it and then got a few complaints. By that point it had already gotten too many views for us to take it down and lose them. We’ve since corrected this. Thanks for your input! We try real hard but sometimes miss the mark. Audio can be a hard thing sometimes.

    The other questions are 2) For the deer base mold what material is it and how is it made from a real deer is it just a dead deer that they pour some poly-tek mold/cast material to make it. 3) What type of paints do you uses for air brush/spray painting the final result. 4) how are the eyes made are they just from some epoxy resin cast of an eye mold?

For some reason the upload is in stereo. You can hear both channels with headphones but on a phone speaker it is more difficult. We hope to do more of these taxidermy vids in the future so keep looking for them!

      If a taxidermist is working on one single whitetail, they can do it in about 3-4 weeks depending on tanning, and drying time. Cost depends on the skill level of the person themself but average 400-500$ for a whitetail shoulder mount

    • @iggyvonkoopa
      @iggyvonkoopa 3 роки тому

      @@sidescrollin so they actually do real animal heads? Is there really a difference when looking at them? For me even if the head has a foam base as long as the skin/fur and antlers(if the animal has any) are 100% then I am fine with that. Speaking of which does the maintenance change when having a real head? I never owned an animal head so yeah!

    • @sidescrollin
      @sidescrollin 3 роки тому

      @@iggyvonkoopa Oh,I guess the way I phrased that is confusing. A real head is full of bone, fat, and muscle. I meant tissue as in muscle. There is no way to just cut a head off an animal and cure it.
      The skin comes off and has to go back on. In the old days, taxidermy re-used the animals bones and was then put back together with wire and glue, the rest would have been filled out with fabric/stuffing or maybe some clay.
      A head would have been much the same. This isn't really done anymore as it is more work and doesn't look as good at the end of the day. Generic foam molds fill everything out much better. The chances of encountering a taxidermy mount that isn't foam filled are basically 0, so its not something to worry about.
      You don't really need to do anything with the mount except keep dust off of it. It's possible too dry and environment or too much UV could damage it, but they otherwise just hang on the wall with no maintenance.
