    I worked on the motor drive design for the aerial and cd loader mechanism of this device. The aerial was a real pain to achieve the smooth glide without any hint of juddering which is eventually achieved using B&O s custom hard anodising finish and a version of teflon linear bearings. The aerial has a slight radius domed finished to the top that matches the EN standard finger dimension. The unit has a finger grip just above the cd loading tray to assist with single handed transportation. The led display is hidden behind a black acoustic gauze that both hides the display and diffuses the led lights making them appear as joined up. The front grilles are interchangable for the different colours by B&O service. The sound quality is not particularl;y high end audio but very pleasing and surprising quality for such a small box which is achieved with quite a labaryinth of molded in ducting for the bass unit. I do not own one but still quite fancy an overture as they are more iconic B&O

      Thanks for sharing on the design. I have one of these I picked up preowned, and had it restored. It sounds really good and has surprising bass. I compared it to the Apple Hi-Fi and this seems to have a much nicer sound and bass presence. I have it integrated into my Sonos with aux adaptor that Steve recommends. Curious to see how this sounds next to a Beosound Level.

      I am glad that people enjoy the sound from the small box although not Audiophile and apart from the top end B&O equipment this probably applies to most B&O equipment they are not really designed for that but to present a good quality audio reproduction with a degree of styling and ease of use. Yes the bass is surprisingly deep and well defined -controlled and at an appropriate level for enjoyment whether on low or high volume. It does make use of the built in what used to be called Loudness function on other equipment but B&O's is an active version that mutes the effect as the volume is increased. I am not a personal fan of it but have to admit it does sound pleasing.
      I would be interested to know if the aerial up down motion retained its smooth action having spent several months working with the Danish mechanical engineer on trying to perfect it I seem to recall it ended up with a modified version of B&O patented super hard anodising on the rod and PTFE slide bearings along with a sprung loaded tensioned tooth belt actuator for the motion. No oil grease or lubricant used so should last until it wears out.

    • @soundsheavenly
      @soundsheavenly  Рік тому +1

      Yes, I can report that the aerial on the unit that I tried was silent and smooth in operation! I found the sound to be pleasant and enjoyable, maybe not an audiophile tone but really nice to listen to

      Yes, the PIN code can be turned off, but only by entering the correct code. You will need to contact your B&O dealer with proof of purchase if you don’t have the code

    • @andrewmackay2001
      @andrewmackay2001 Рік тому +1

      The cd mechanism should be the Philips cd pro which is mechanically very robust with die cast ali body and chrome slider bearings. It is common to the overture family and even the multi disc player.. However you have to watch if you buy a replacement as there are 2 versions with different sw and different data interface.

    • @andrewmackay2001

      @@soundsheavenly thanks Steve there was a bit of a debate about the pin over ride code whether it should bein the production unit or not. In won as the unit is portable and that meant each power cycle required the pin re entry. You can imagine if you were design testing modifying the electronics and mechanics for weeks on end you grew to hate the Pin code🤣

    I’m sure that this speaker reproduces excellent sound, to an extent. But can it reproduce traditional left and right channel stereo, which is how most entertainment media is created, particularly music media?

    • @soundsheavenly
      @soundsheavenly  2 роки тому +3

      Hi, yes this speaker produces full stereo sound. You won't get a traditional wide sound stage from any single-box speaker, but you do get the stereo effect due to the left and right drivers being well separated and pointed outwards to expand the sound stage.

    I have watched many of your videos recently, and I think it was kind of funny when you visited the candystore (Bremdal radio) in Denmark.

    Hi Steve! What would you recommend for a first stereo B&O purchase? I already have a Beosound 2 (2nd. gen), but I’m not sure I enjoy it that much in stereo when I try them paired at my local store.
    I mostly stream music, but I would also love to buy a record player at some point. I have considered buying older products and connect them to a core maybe(?). I don’t have a lot of space, and floor standing speakers will be difficult.

    B&O if you’re listening I have a question. It’s confusing because in the United States I have the B&O upgrade for my Ford truck, but OTOH it’s not possible to listen to your speakers in person. I just ordered the Beolit 20 speaker and enjoy it very much. I think the sound is very nice. But strangely in the states here, it’s hard to find anyone that sells your Bluetooth speakers. I wish more retailers would carry them so people can listen to them before they make a decision. I think you would give competitors like HK and Bose a run for their money.

I think there’s an untapped market of people who want more than a $200 small, average quality speaker but don’t want to spend thousands on a whole system. The cd player uses the same integrated mechanism from Philips as used on their cd juke boxes the radio is specific to the unit and is as good as any other B&O device but has enhanced radio reception and selection over previous units.
