- There's simply nothing like the engine in Porsche's 963. In fact, it's the only one of its kind in IMSA's new WeatherTech SportsCar Championship hybrid GTP class.
Take a look at the time-honored roots and the modern take on the motor code named '9RD' that Porsche Penske Motorsport intends to take to victory lane at the 12 Hours of Sebring and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Thank-you Marshall for your insight and information on this powerplant. Really great to see Porsche GTP on the race track.
I had a subscription to Racer magazine for years. But it was very driver oriented and I was looking for tech information. Eventually I just let the subscription expire. It’s awesome to see this channel develop its tech oriented subject matter the way it has!
Love the detailed look into each aspect of the cars!
Added note: The P2 Class RS Spyder won the overall race at Sebring as well! It reminded me of the Niisan GTS winning not only its class but the overall victory at the 24 hrs of Daytona. So cool when a lower class car can beat the higher level class cars. I love how many manufacturers are running in both WED and IMSA now with the new Hypercars. The new golden age of prototype racing has begun!
incredible explanations
yes yes yes lets go!
Bring on Sebring!
Love this series! Thanks. Great stuff. It really helps following the series!!
Is this motor at all related to the 4.6L V8 of the 918?
It is.
Lovely...well done
Marshall yet another great video, thank you sir 👍
Fascinating. Thanks!
Typical for Porsche: They reuse whatever they have laying around as long as it fits. They do this for decades...
You mean like Marshall’s opening shot?
If it works, it works. BMW did the same for their LMDH, using the P66 V8 from E92 M3 DTM which debuted over 10 years ago, in 2012. Just getting a twin turbo now + of course the hybrid system.
And they are the most decorated manufacturer in endurance racing 🤷♂️
...with success!
Don’t reinvent the wheel.
Also the V4 program laughs at this.
The way I interpreted what was said is that there is a pre-cooler for the inlet, ???
Go Porsche!!!!
What’s the difference between the GTP & WEC 963s?
Apart from different BoP, I think they should be identical
Air to air intetcooler?
That looks so small compare to other cars.
Looks like a air-water intercooler to me.
Is it a Porsche or a Penske Illmor?
Isn't it an entirely new engine?
No, it's not. Lol. Was well known.
Bio fuel what a joke!!!! Can't even get away from the climate freaks in racing.
Would you rather have electric SHIT?
😢
Why so late with this one? The other engine tech vids were before daytona....
Uber-cool. sportscars are better than F1 these days. some very original thinking.
