I was born in 1958 so missed the 60s but i know lots of music from that era as i had two older sisters who were always playing music. A brilliant music era!
I was born in 1952, so a proper old east end london toss pot now, but nobody will ever convince me that we were not a better countty then. And we still had The Beatles and 1966 to come.
The world was a better place back then.
Yes it was not so fucked up
In some ways - and people didn't swear so much !

I Will is still one of my favourite Billy Fury songs. Can't believe he never had a number 1 in the UK.
Billy was the best
Yes! The kids were unaffected back then. That’s progress for you.
As an American, we really didn't hear much about Billy Fury. But somehow I found an album at an old record shop many years ago, and I heard Colette and loved it. Interesting choice of songs for Billy J. Kramer...Tennessee Waltz. I've always loved the Searchers...great harmonies.
A lot of British artists at that time covered American hits.
Just fabulous Mate….an absolute treasure trove for keeping. Billy Fury😀! Subscribed to see what else you’ve found for us😉
I was in my pram when this first aired, and now I'm 57, incredible really! 💞
Me too,Now listening to the Horrors with my kids.Quite Surreal, Stay gold.
I grew up in the sixties and remember this show well. I believe the name of the hostess was Cathy McGowan. Lovely to see famous stars playing and singing on stage so close to their audience. Everybody was so nicely dressed back then and I liked the way the young couples danced to the slow numbers. Wonder if that still happens today or is it just considered to be too soft and romantic?
Ready steady go went live in 65. Rog. Pacific sunset records.
@@terrymurphy2032 absolutely agree. Rog. Pacific sunset records
Cathy McGowan is the partner of Michael Ball
@@macraghnaill3553 she came in my father in law's shop in Petworth! And I wasn't there....
Frances, here in our village in Spain, they don't play slow numbers. No chance for romance.
BILLY⭐FURY was awesome 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
He certainly was Pat. Still missed so much.
he has girlfriend from a very rich family I recall called Liza. She was devasted after his sudden young death from a heart attack
Everyone there now about 75 years old ,, incredible

I'm from United States, my favorite British bands from this era are the Beatles, Stones, Yardbirds, Who, Kinks, Animals.
The comments were turned off on the 1963 Ready, Steady, Go so I'll comment here. The poor Beatles, having to deal with these asinine questions, was BRUTAL. They certainly paid their dues. Great history.
Thanks! All my favorites...
still many more shows to come...so keep checking back or subscribe! ...david.
Billy Fury was the nearest we had to Elvis.
Hi, just been by where Billy was brought up today, in shops in Park Road, Dingle was thinking about Billy ( always Do ) he really was a great Artist! By the way the Whychley Family were well liked by people there years ago ( Billy's real name Ronnie Whychley ) with respect.
@@stormytempest3907 That is the same area where Ringo Starr was brought up, and apparently Billy Fury and Ringo Starr were in the same class at Dingle Vale Secondary School.
@@lagerhound and Billy had a Triumph T110 650.
リヴァプールのエルヴィスプレスリーと言われたらしい!
And sadly both of them died at the relatively young age of 42.@@user-bm9gd1vj3y
There were still the remnants of the 50's then.
Every decade has remnants of the previous decade, especially at the beginning.
Fantastic, thanks
I love that there's no pretence here. There are no microphones and no suggestion that they are doing anything other than miming to their records.
RSG started off in the weather/kids presenter's underground studio, so many people turned up they certainly had no room for say a string orchestra - when they were later given a larger studio in 1965 the artists had to sing live.
Thank you!
I love 1964
Any kid with a transistor radio in their ear in 1964 was spoiled for whatever came afterwards
That was the year!!!
Lots of Billy Fury stuff on youtube. 😊😊
Brilliant program
At 77 I had the best music…
Wow! I had no idea the variety of dance shows back then. I only know of American Bandstand from that era.
not heard this before Tennessee Waltz ..that's Mick Green playing the white Tele..
Micky Mouse stuff
Cathy McGowan I remember well! My mon had a Cathy McGowan record player way back in the sixties 😎
fury class
Oh Yes !
Just comparing the attire of the young audience to what we see today.....so very sad
Awesome 😎
Billy Fury...different league.
Stevie.... DIFFERENT CLASS as Well!
good holly tribute bob r i p
Magnificent work.
great memories
Billy Fury was some singer of Ballads 😅
Keith Fordyce was such a classy presenter.
even then he was regarded as dated & stoggey. Very similar to Pete Murrey & David Jacobs. They were from the old school and just regurgitated as they did not seek our new younger talent
oh The Seachers !! ("ask Mr. Tito Burns .. he's alright ") ... those Burns Guitars were alright too.
Bobby V Bobby Vinton, Bobby. Daran . Bobby Bobby this Bobby that . Every one was Bobby.
Bobbing around.
Brilliant remember drooling over Kathy Mc Gowan well b4 moving to Oz and marrying Jill.
Wow nostalgia overload i believe cathy McGowan is married to Michael ball
She is indeed married to Michael ball. Rog
These days, Michael prefers Balls!
Did he say the three girls who won the Beatles competition were from Sutton Surrey if so that is where I'm from. And i all ways enjoyed ready steady go 👍
Yes, Sutton Surrey. Maybe you know them?
I don't think so I would of been only six or seven at the time and they were teenagers 😊
Do you have the episodes with appearances by Denny Seyton And The Sabres, The Big Three, The Mojos and The Jynx?
in short no! dave clark bought all remaining episodes but exactly what he did buy is still a mystery...he has now sold it all to a german media company who may go through the episodes and remaster them and leave them in their original state NOT remixed by dave clark!..david.
Only a relatively small amount of RSG! material still survives today. Most of it is from the first 18 months or so of the show's original run, from October 1963 until March 1965. It amounts to about four complete or near-complete shows (three featuring the Beatles) and a small number of clips from others. After March 1965 until the final programme in December 1966, even less is known to survive - just one near-complete show from July 1965 and the September 1966 "Otis Redding Special"... again with a small batch of clips from other shows, mostly featuring the Rolling Stones. Compilation VHS tapes were released in the mid-80s, containing much of the surviving material ... as far as I'm aware, there has to date never been a DVD release in the UK. A book by Andy Neill and published by BMG Books is available giving a comprehensive history of the programme.
Hey. Great site. Just noticing.
Poor old Bobby Vee - died a few years back from Alzheimer's disease. Horrible way to go.
BEATLES FOREVERRRRR
Lovely to see the girls showing so many beautiful, individual, mainly short hairstyles, compared to today's girls almost all of whom wear their hair long with no individuality whatsoever.
The guy singing Love Hurts sounds a little like Roy Orbison. Nazareth had a much later hit with it.
The Everly Brothers did the definitive version of “Love Hurts”. The song was written by the husband and wife songwriting team Felice and Boudleaux Bryant.
If I remember correctly this song was written by Les Paul's wife Mary Pickford.
@@johnbettmann6888Mary Ford?
@@miroslavloncar8857 Yeah that's her.
@@johnbettmann6888 no,they didn' t wrote that song
And about ten years later Nazareth would make "Love Hurts" a hit.
The Everly Brothers had a hit with it in 1960.
I thought Jim Capaldi’s version was the best.
Looking at all the youngsters in the audience from 1964 they will now all be grandma's and granddads like myself. As for Bily J Kramer that's about the worst rendition of Tennessee Waltz I've ever heard why he did such a cover version beats me. As for the rest pure pop history with Billy Fury at his best
Even myself, a new born in 1964, now 57 years old! 😂
Kinda analogous to the Beatles recording "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean." Yes, they did that.
This must have been an early appearance for Frank Allen in the Searchers - he joined them August 1964
Tony Jackson was the original member on bass and had a great voice, for some reason he left to start another band. Then he some years later when he relative young man he died. Their harmonies were really good.
@@commonman131 日本の音楽雑誌の記事によるとギャラの取り分でもめたらしいです。ただトニ―ジャクソンの新しいバンドの曲、「フォ―チュンテラー。」は良い出来だったと思うけど!
Frank Allen never sang on their best recordings. It must have it Tony (Jackson) really hard because he didn't live many years after that.
When life was simple. Now it’s a rat race. Young people enjoying themselves without a him/her whatever bollocks
Like all these old shows there was some good music and not so good music.
There was so much good stuff and so much Crap back in the day.Much like today!

I agree with you Michael.
Yep we had this never ending ballroom Cliff stuff

Who is the guy trying to sing and nearly falling over to start with?
Remember this program 1960s Manchester moss side television with no wooden casement tube valve's really great show . JohnRooney
That's Top of the Pops.
The Tennessee Waltz in...4/4?
you can tell ? how does 4/4 go ?
Alma Cogan's version goes in 4/4 too.
Maybe the confusion about time signatures is why Billy J nearly fell off the rostrum at 1.25.
They don’t make them like that anymore
Eric burdens voice xx
who is the guy singing "love hurts"???
mark wynter from woking in surrey....this was a single from 1964 'love hurts/cant help forgiving you' pye records....he had in the sixties around 4 albums and countless singles after his debut in 1960 ....hope this helps? david.
Did anyone spot the policeman and nurses in the background at about 16.2 ?? 😂
3:49 that billy fury song sounds like a rip off of the bond theme
Bobby Vee looked like a Gerry Anderson character 🙂
Yeah but he was still great.
Is this an American show? They showed a clip of American football in the intro.
No , it was a UK show
@@rnstoo1 I never got to see that program in America. How long was, "Ready, Steady, Go", on?
Yes and why?? Oh why , yes it's called propaganda, ......
@@mikehunt8997 imdb reports 09/08/1963 · Ready, Steady, Go!: With Sandy Sarjeant, Cathy McGowan, Mick Jagger, Dusty Springfield. London based British Rock/Pop tv show broadcast every Friday night during its run until 23/12/1966. My problem indeed that it was independent television and clashed with other things on BBC so one could not watch both. Some Independent regions would broadcast at different times in the evening. It sort of followed 6-5special which was one of the Jack Good Promotions. The tip to the US was because that was seen as the cool place where the big stars and action was. The BBC later came up with Top Of The Pops - but had other chart type music shows before that , plus Juke Box Jury for celeb votes for new songs expected to be popular but that was generally a disc based show Other artists would appear on other Saturday night general entertainment shows, including Sunday Night at the London Palladium and the Billy Cotton Band Show.
