Why Every Wrestler Should Perfect The Fireman's Carry

- I contrast the fireman's carry against upper body trips and throws to show the advantage it has of being a high reward yet a low risk wrestling technique
I do not own the footage used in the video
My dude, fyi you are a better technique analyst than any I have come across in wrestling media. You are better than Mike Mal in my opinion. Your wrestlers are lucky to have you, and I seriously expect that you should be seeing some interest from Flo in the near future.
Thanks man that means a lot. If I could do some work for Big Ten Network and Flo as like an independent contractor that would be great. I could never get locked into only one media source though because I would be giving up too much film
@@earnyourgold I hear you on that definitely. I can't help imagining how awesome it would be if you had your own broadcast during events, kind of like the Manning brothers do with an overall breakdown of the strengths and weaknesses of each wrestler. Not only would it lend greater to the surprise when different things happen, like the way we would feel when our teammates hit something funky, it gives a much better feel for the evolution wrestlers go through throughout the season.
With the attention to detail that you give and the way you are able to research the evolution of different wrestler's technique, knowing that as part of the intro to different matches I think would make wrestling matches MUCH more interesting.
Myself even being a far greater than casual fan, watching a match and knowing what guys are good at and might be doing beings it to the level of watching a football game, which IMO is a far more involved and engaging than random wrestling matches many times.
Just a dream. I think it would be awesome, I'd Patreon the daylights out of something like that.
I would be very interested in you coming to Texas to run a camp lmk
Fantastic Breakdown. This is absolutely the best wrestling based channel.
Thanks man
Great technical knowledge, great reasoning. Many grapplers, in jiu-jitsu or wrestling, just go for what feels best but don't think of risk/reward.
Yeah a lot of wrestlers don't have the best IQ and situational awareness. I've seen kids get lat dropped with 5 seconds left when they were up by 3-4 points because they're hanging out in the over/under position. I never understood that
I love watching these videos, I think I have watched your entire channel. It’s great to see you in the corner! My only suggestion is putting your personal video bottom right so you don’t block the typical location of the scorecard for match footage.
Best breakdown channel period
Will do for sure. Thank you for the suggestion and thank you for supporting the channel. Glad you find the videos helpful
Wow this is so good, and great examples. I think there is a reason why some of the most consistent wrestlers simply stay out of throw positions
Thank you
amazing breakdown as always. when watching these matches live it's so easy to miss who initiated and who's countering with these inside/outside trip attacks
Yeah it is 100%. I didn't even notice at first that iMar was the one who went for the outside trip first. I didn't catch that until I started making this video. At the time I was just amazed that he got pinned by Cenzo
literally the best wrestling analysis i’ve ever seen. total genius from this guy. congratulations
Thanks man. Means a lot
I don't comment much or claim to be good at this internet lol but this is one of the best wrestling videos I've seen in a lot of ways from commentary to analysis the video breakdowns and I wrestled so to you sir I say good job two points take down
Glad you enjoyed it bro
All of his videos are amazing and Im not even a wrestler per say. Just a regulsr guy that watches wrestling and grapples a few times a week. His insight on all these videos is just above and beyond
My go to takedown in HS. If I did not get the leg, I would just lean back with my head while holding onto arm......this brought competitor to mat. If they tried to counter by stepping over I could turn them. If they didn't step over, I would loosen the arm grip and go behind them.
Yeah the dump is such a cheat code. A lot of guys get caught sleeping in that front headlock position
I've shared this channel with our wrestling team. Such great breakdowns! Great job!
Much appreciated and thank you
Whoever has correct head position is going to win. Imar had incorrect head position. Whatever leg you are tripping that's where your head needs to be.
Couldn't agree more. Have been doing the same analysis with fireman carry and concluded it is a very low risk high reward move. Spencer Lee's fireman series is the best I've seen.
This was a fire analysis. I’ve seen all these matches but didn’t realize all of the intricacies of one person beating another who beats another, that beat the first person through these moves. Crazy.
Thank you
I am very interested on getting you to come to Texas to run a camp lmk!!!!!
This is great my guy beautiful technique breakdowns 💯❤️
Thank you
Notice marinelli gets tossed he had incorrect head position
Notice his head is on the wrong side when marinelli out his to his back
I loved this move when I was in high school and could never understand why no one else did it
Yeah man I think that about a lot of moves
A little unrelated but what should I do if I have an underhook and they whizzer really hard?
Couple of things, but largely move with the momentum/force. What you do is based, in part, on what is given to you. They are forcing a downwards pressure so moving low is an option. Their sameside leg as your underhook is there you can drop to a single or even inside trip, far side leg is there you can ankle/knee pick, they bring their hips far away and bend over you have a snap down, as the pressure goes down you drop for a body lock if their other elbow is open and you keep your hips in or limp arm and arm drag, if their are circling a number of trips and foot sweeps open up and even an arm drag on the far side. You can use any one of these and improve position and you can plan for their defense and make countering their defense your actual goal/move which opens up so many more things
Great video! Risk vs.reward! Desanto loved the firemans, and used it a ton,and scored alot with it! Very seldom was the risk vs. Reward on a fireman's, was there much risk if done properly! RBY would wrestle DeSantis with his hand behind his back,to prevent a firemans.Like the break downs. All big upper body moves if countered correctly have high risk. Also the most exciting move in the sport! Being from Illinois I've watched Gomez alot,he's always liked the big upper body move, RE(YANNI) Win! But being small in stature,he does get caught once in a while! I've yet to see him pinned on the move tho.His strength& speed allow him to turn quick enough.! But giving up 6 is a big deficit in folk style especially.
Thank you. And Gomez is electric. It's crazy to me that he can wrestle so hard for 7 minutes while performing those big throws because those take a lot of you. Way more than shots do
You gotta be the best UA-camr doing these analysis videos! Thank you for doing these!!!
Thank you. I'm trying to get there
@@earnyourgold you do a great job, also check out DPSBreakdowns he does an excellent job as well!
@earnyourgold you do a great job, also check out DPSBreakdowns he does an excellent job as well!
@@talktolee I've been watching DPS Breakdowns for years man. He's really good. Focuses more on his Instagram than his UA-cam now though which makes sense
Personally I don’t believe a fireman carry is particular in grappling. It can work however the position gives up your backside too much which is a high risk.
Yeah I don't see why someone would do it in a jiu jitsu type of ruleset
Except these are barrel rolls from a low single. Fireman's carry is done from a high c.
Barrel roll, dump, outside carry. Makes no difference to me
Good content ty. Should have more likes. Where the wrestlers be? 😆
Thank you and I think most of my viewers are jiu jitsu guys, coaches and parents. It's wild how little high school kids study film. That's all I did in school. Learned so much from watching videos on Big Ten Network
This is fantastic!!!
4:50 wait a minute he had it but made a huge mistake in judo you keep your toe on mat and bash him w your knee...see Yarden Gerbi on ouchi gari...he simply did the move wrong!
Of course it’s relative to where you’re located in the Country, but I would most definitely not consider those a fireman’s carry. Those are dumps. A dump is a lot easier move than a fireman’s carry. This was my “Go to” move in HS. Highly effective.
Bud!I love your channel but I have a little bit different interpretation of these matches see in judo we have 3 parts of the throw the final part is called the "kake" thats the snappy part....see Brooks got bagged not because of the position but because Bo snapped his throw first, Brooks could have inside tripped Bo with a violent snap or kake ...jodo has a bit more advanced technology on throws
Sorry for the late response man. A lot of these positions are definitely decided by who pulls the trigger first. I wish judo was more common in America. I've been watching Dimitri Gamkrelidze (165lber for Binghamton) who's a 2x Judo National Champ and he's terrorizing people from the over/under position
@@earnyourgold love it man! Yea so young wrestlers pull that trigger first!
R u going to NCAA in Tulsa??
I played the double under game. The Trip is the risky part. If you do a throw by or body lock you are safe. Double overs is very risky like you can see. I think the fireman is not a good move. I stuff it all day long put i never allowed a overhook control. The only way i was taken down was with a very solid single. I wish I knew the funk roll but I don't think any did it back when i wrestled.
Man your analysis is fantastic! Thank you for the insight.
Thank you and no problem
I hit like 6 fireman carry’s today
That's what I'm talking about
Nice job buddy, I do think with the the double/unders if you can really elevate the hooks and drop to the body lock it becomes a safer, less threatening position, with a high probability of scoring.
Thank you and yeah I agree. Especially f if you're the taller wrestler. That position becomes even better. Didn't mean to discourage people for using it. Just showing that no matter how comfortable you are in it, someone can catch you from it
@@earnyourgold Definitely all good! I think it boils down to being dominant in your mindset no matter the position. You gotta EYG Yo!
Love your breakdowns. Keep it up
Great Video! Thank you!
Glad you liked it
well done. Had to do Dake dirty.
Haha I had to show that nobody is safe. No better man to highlight that with than Dake
What are your thoughts on Ben Askren saying that his Brother Max doesn't allow fireman's carry in his room and anyone that hits one gets punished?
@@bilbobaggins7095 is it a video posted on UA-cam where he said that?
@@earnyourgold he said it on frl a while back
@@bilbobaggins7095 odd rule. I don’t like the traditional fireman’s carry where you go across the shoulders but I like the dump variation that Spencer Lee and Austin Desanto do
Your videos help a lot.
Glad to hear that
Great breakdown.
Great stuff as always!
Thank you
Great analysis!
