I can definitely see how this method is beneficial and I'm going to give it a try. I have the PAL laser (the small one) from Designs in Machine Embroidery that allows me to "blind align" from the top as well, meaning I don't have to see the marks on the outer hoop to get it right. This method simulates that process manually. Pretty smart!

What recommendations do you have for that. thanks! It is very difficult to get that large garment on the hoop first of all & aligning it correctly seems to be quess work most often for me. Too time consuming!? Maybe but for only the first time! I also use 3M Scotch Brand Removable Double Sided Tape on the bottom side of the inner hoop to temporarily secure everything before the final hooping. I put a bit of tape right where the underside of the centering grid marks would be. Remember! It's removable....
you don't have to hoop the fabric. just hoop the stabilizer and make a basting rectangle before the actual design. the basting holds the fabric in place and can be removed. this is what you MUST do when doing really thick items like coats.

I use a silicone baking mat to keep that bottom hoop from sliding
