Thank you so much for explaining this so well! My last purchased wheels showed the belt just barely when I first bought it,and it hasn't lasted very long at all.I have six wheels in all-four that can be recoated.I just need to know what the name of the grit is when I buy it,because they list it as what grade of mesh they used to package it. Also=I wonder if a mold could be made to receive the remaining goo to make polishing tips.A cut nail could be used with the remainder for use with a dremel or foredom.
I've done this but learning on my own. I have the set up for the rotation. I tried to put too much on at once, and out of balance a bit. I hooked the rotisarie up to my Genie and did them on the machine. Started out with the 3000, then the 1200, 600 and then the 280-300. A learning experience for sure.
This is hands down the best video I have seen on recoating wheels. The rotisserrie motor and shaft is brilliant! Thanks for sharing. Is there possibly a different brand of epoxy that has the same active ingredients and working time that would fill the bill? If you find one, keep us posted. Thanks again.
No, I had coated some, but because the material is worked on the coarse wheels it shaves it off in spots. Once this happens it starts to separate from from the wheel.
It appears you are using same diamond grit on the 4 belts-how does that work? The epoxy/diamond mix is the same for each of the 4 belts-how can you now differentiate the 60 grit from the 1200? Aren't they now all 4 the same grit paper? Please explain
Diamond grits are all the same color. On the inside of the belts I write what grit they are, and I know what grit is in which position on my machine. If you have a problem remembering which grit is in which position on your machine, you can simply label your machine.
Hello Kinney, I am going to re surface my 6 X 1 1/2 wheels. I want to go from 60 grit to 3000 over 6 wheels. I don't want to not mix enough epoxy. How do you know how much for my 6 x 1 1/2 in wheels? Also what mesh do you recommend? 100 carrots for the course grit and say 25 carrots for above 280? The mesh is confusing for me. When I order from Tech Diamond they want know the mesh and the number of carrots. I am super excited to resurface my wheels. Thank you so much for your time.
I don't recommend putting a finer grit than the prior coarse grit. If it wears thin in an area, you will start getting scratches from the coarse grit. Don't try to mix too big of batch at one time. You came find grit to mesh conversion charts.
@@kinneypolve2100 Maybe it's not mesh it's micron. I understand about the finer grit. I am basically going to re do all my wheels 🙃. I just don't know what to order. You order 60 grit 100 carrots what micron? Same 100 carrots for 180 grit what micron? Then above 280 grit you drop the carrots to what 50 or 25 what micron? What about the higher grits?
I don't recommend it on hard wheels. I have done it to some, but because of the way that you have to hold the material when cutting, it will shave off some of the diamond material, then it starts flaking off. I've tried using different types of epoxies, but it always ends the same.

This was a absolutely fantastic video!
Thanks
Great job!!! I'm thinking of buying a used cabbing machine and this your video puts my mind at ease.
Thanks.
I made a 8” carpet pad for my flatlap with this technique.
Very good 👍🏻

Very informative video. Thanks.
You're welcome.

Thanks. Any brand of 15 minute epoxy will work.
I Have 4 wheels to resurface, my 280,600,1200 & 3000. I have diamond grit to match each wheel. How much epoxy is used per wheel?
Just enough that I can mix on a three inch square piece of glass .
Ok nice interesting idea it is helpful method.
Thanks.
How many carats of diamond powder do you use per wheel for 600 and 1200 grit?
It depends on what size belt that you are recoating. It tells you in the video. 5 carats on a 6 inch and 10 - 15 carats on an 8 inch wheel.
If you have extra just put it on some scrap belt pieces for flattening cab backs or hand polishing!
Great tip.
Does this technique work for the electroplated?

Hello, I have flexible grinding wheels with various particle sizes
Can this be done on a hard wheel to?
