Not only would I LOVE an eventual TLOS remake, I feel like there absolutely SHOULD eventually be one. If only for the fact that these are maaaainly PS2 era games, and so far we haven't got a new console that's backwards comparable with PS2 disks, and I'm someone who absolutely deeeeespiiiiisessss the idea of ANY game eventually becoming completely unplayable (outside of... dubiously legal means) due to lack of working hardware.
Though, I do think it shouldn't happen juuuuust yet. I feel like TLOS needs a good 10 more years (at least) to fall into that nice, comfortable "Old nostalgic fondness" territory, after other fans have gotten their good fill of other, brand new content, before they try and do a remake.
One thing I'd personally change in DOTD's story, that'd smooth over a few of the common complaints, as well as a major gripe of my own: A change to Sparx getting left behind before the burned lands.
One character growth point that's often overlooked in TEN, is Sparx slowly getting over his cowardice, and becoming more brave. DOTD just... dropped it. Completely.
I'd propose, that Sparx doesn't initially go though the Wall of Fire with Spryo, not because he CAN'T survive it (Or...fly over it for some reason), but because it becomes the breaking point for just HOW much he's willing to face his fears, and Spyro recognizes this, and give him the out of "Oh, you should go help everyone though the catacombs", because he's not about to force his brother to go through with what might just end up being their final hours.
So, things go as usual for awhile. Ignitus dies, Cynder is corrupted, Spyro's completely alone and falls into his Despair Event Horizon trope- And then, suddenly, Sparx shows up! Having finally gathered up the strength and the guts to follow Spyro and Cynder, to be with them until the end! Because that's where he belongs!
His snarky pep-talk banter picks Spyro back up, and together they snap Cynder out of corruption, and the three friends are together to face Malefor!
Doing it that way, it'd lessen the... absurdness of the "You left me nothing to fight for" scene, make the Spyro X Cynder-ness of the scene less hamfistedly shoved into one's face, get rid of the idea that Sparx was just thrown away at the end of the trilogy to make room for Cynder, complete the character arc TEN was setting up for him-
And, as a bonus, it could make a nice touching bookend/callback with ANB, to the scenes where Spryo split up with Sparx when first leaving the swamp, only for Sparx to come back to him.

I don't think The Legend of Spyro should be "remastered", but "revamped". Like you said, characters and lore bits should be more developed and expanded upon. On top of that i would develop the lore of the areas we explore as well. Accoring to Jared Pullen, in A New Begining, each level was originally supposed to be protected by one of the guardians, even Cynder's Lair was originally a haven for wind and electric dragons, before being taken over and corrupted by dark magic.
One of the places that needs this type of development is Warfang. The only lore we get about it is that the moles built it for the dragons, but we barely *see* any dragons in it. I think the city would be perfect to show introduce dragons from the original trilogy. At least one from each world, to represent them.
If there's a species that needs to be expanded upon in this trilogy, it is, ironically, the dragons themselves. We play as the protagonist of a prophecy, raised by masters of elements, and we meet the oldest and wisest dragon. Yet, we dont know much about them. Once again, Jared Pullen shares how powerful dragons are. Fire, Electricity, Ice, Earth, Water, and Wind being natural elements, that dragons are born with, while Poison, Fear, and Shadow need to be taught by an outside influence. I think we should have at least some of these dragons represented in the games.
Dragons with these "unnatural" elements don't need to be "evil". Let's take a look on the Reignited dragon designs for a second. Specifically, the Beast Makers. It is clear that most of them use at least some kind of dark magic, but they're still good dragons. It could be the same case with the "unnatural" dragons in the Legend trilogy. Making it clear that they use some sort of artificial or dark power, but they use them to fight against Malefor's forces. Maybe they even offer to take Cynder under their wings to teach her how to "truly master" her dark elements.
This is not even half of what i'd do with these games. It's the very tip of the iceberg. I have so many ideas on what i would change in this trilogy. During my shower thoughts, i've already re-imagined the entire story and even some gameplay elements; making the world and the creatures that inhabit it seem and feel more powerful and unique, and even how i would implement older characters into it. But i've never had a chance to write it down, and i'm sure this comment is long enough as it is. Any more than this and it would just be easier to write a book.

@@shaydilane2172 Oh i am! Sparx and his parents already have more weight in the story. Just as a teaser, Flash (the dad) is a fairy while Nina (the mother) is a regular dragonfly. Sparx has the heightened senses of a regular dragonfly and the magic of a fairy in his veins, the apes want to use him to locate big sources of gems and other magic items. Spyro teases him about it calling him a "gem detector". This is supposed to be a nod at the gem tracking feature in the classic games. Gameplaywise, Sparx would circle around collectable items, bring gems from far away, and blind or bait enemies when Spyro is stunned or surrounded.

I wish the games used their friendly creatures more, like the Atlawa and the Manweersmalls. Like, how cool would it have been to see Kane show up again to help in the battle at Warfang in DOTD, after not seeing him since ANB? Or even have Exhumor return, taking a more active role after the possible death of his brother (Mole-Yair) at the hands of Malefore's forces? It would've been not only neat to see these characters return, but it would've given the Chronicler's and Hunter's words "you're not alone. You have allies" more weight, as these characters you've helped come back to help you.

    Ancestors this video is AWESOME!
Man you managed to recall and point every characteristics, holes, problems and information about the Legend of Spyrp trilogy.
I really agree with all that you said, specially about bring back the original team to make the remake, bring Elijah Wood and Gary Oldman (and maybe Cree Summer or Mae Whitman) to repeat their voices, expand the lore adding all the scrapped content, ideas and concepts, and develop further the relationship among Spyro and Cynder, making it paced, well structured, and greatly balanced so it can be canon, specially in their moments of tension as the fight in the Skavangers' ship or when Dark Spyro appears.
Also to make Dark Spyro a little more present, maybe in an internal fight among Spyro and his dark version.
I really wish a remake of The Legend of Spyro happens, so it can be made justice to this trilogy and actually make it more important.
    So far great video!

I kind of would like a gameplay that focused more on Cynder's story during A New Beginning and Eternal Knight, like maybe there can be certain sections in the game or at least a story pack where we follow Cynder's journey from the time she was hatched, her training, before she was brainwashed by Malefore, then by Eternal Knight we learn of her powers again, like in the cutscene she trains along side Spyro, then we figure out what she was doing after she ranaway and by the time we fight Ghual, before getting knocked out why not let her in on the fight for a bit, I mean she has had the most torture from being around Ghual, her and Spyro duking it out on this guy would have shown just how much Cynder went through, this would be a start of her finally breaking free from her burdens, she is a much stronger dragon, she doesn't have to be Ghual's or Malefore's slave, she doesn't have to be a part of a prophecy, she is now more then what everyone else, besides Spyro expected of her, Cynder would have really developed into her own character, leading to the events of Dawn Of The Dragon.
Then finally, Dawn Of The Dragon why not have some gameplay with Hunter, since it seemed he didn't have a major role, like why not play as him during certain sections of the game, like maybe a prequel before he found Spyro and Cynder, then have certain sections or levels in throughout the game where you play as him to clear paths, unlock puzzles, and other missions. Dawn Of The Dragon it seemed like he was there and then suddenly he wasn't needed anymore. Maybe even Sparx can get a few small parts of gameplay (I mean Sparx doesn't need anything major) but why not give him more to do.

They could even potentially make Dark Spyro a core mechanic, showing Spyro’s conflict between light and dark sides, having it be represented in-game in the fury bar, switching between light and dark: show that struggle to balance light and dark. Or simply have Spyro become able to damage allies while in fury mode, becoming Dark Spyro.

One thing I would like in a remake would be a level/chapter select in the first two games and being able to play through the story again from the beginning in Dawn of the Dragon, but with all of your upgrades and collectibles, like in the previous two games, instead of it just saying “Story mode over” and having that option locked out forever and having to play in chapter mode to collect missed collectibles, which you cannot even save in chapter mode, so perhaps add the option to save in chapter mode after beating the story, if the story mode is going to be locked out forever on that save file.

The GBA version of Eternal Night has many differences in the story
    1. In the recap at the start of the game the developers mistake Cynder as Spyro's sister
    2. The Well Of Night (which is a better name then Well Of Soul's) existed before Malefor
    3. Warfang is called Doxantha
    4. Dark Spyro destroyed Gaul's entire army
    5. You fight a Naga from World Of Warcraft instead of Arborick
    6. Cynder was drawn to Well Of Night due to her corruption
And that's all of the changes in that version besides having in my opinion the better character designs for Spyro and Cynder.

I’m like a year late to this but something I felt was not worked out enough was why Cinder left in the second game. The guardians and Spyro were apparently doing their best to help her readjust. With her having dark elements in the third game, I feel like a remake should change her motivation in eternal night.
Instead of leaving because angst, maybe she AND Spyro leave together to try and explore her powers. Bring segments in where we can play as Cinder, learning her powers alongside her. At one point, she and Spyro get separated, and don’t see eachother again until the arena fight. That’s where she learns the fear element; it’s a terrifying situation, and Spyro first learned his elements in emotionally stressful moments (fire from anger as an example). Why not do the same with her? Then game 3 wouldn’t just be “oh she has elements now!” We already know her powers, and just...drop the chronicler’s useless “youre a wizard Spyro” moment? We KNOW what his abilities are, the only reason that was there was because of Cinder’s introduced powers.

As someone who has played all of the good and bad Spyro games, I must say that THIS was an amazing trilogy. It wasn't trying to be cute or imitate the other games, it was just being its own thing, and to that regard, I think they succeeded. It was REALLY good! It's actually kinda hard to go into the reignited trilogy because my mind has been sort of wiped off the more "innocent" Spyro character. It's also hard to appreciate it when my most recent journey with Spyro (before Reignited) was a dark, edgy, epic, and badass adventure where Spyro was the Dragon of prophecy with a dark side buried in him, ALONG with a soundtrack that just pierces my heart. It's so epic. The choir soundtrack for the menu screens, ambiance, and battles were very powerful, and fit the universe LOS took place in, and I could feel the connections of each game that passed (from "New Beginning" to "Dawn"). I think I much prefer THAT Spyro over the innocent nerdy one that has drastically fewer abilities and lore behind him. If 1 thing is absolutely true, it's that LOS Spyro was way more fleshed out and explained AND EXPANDED upon than OG Spyro has ever been, effectively making LOS Spyro very likable, understood, emphasized, and seemingly powerful and important in his world (such as how he is the only type of dragon that can control Aether and Nether). He is just MORE badass than OG Spyro, and Elijah Wood really hit it home with the voice acting. He was a fantastic voice actor for Spyro.
I have hope that ONE day, I'm going to launch UA-cam and while I am browsing my recommendations, that I see one of 2 things: "The Legend of Spyro: Retold (Remastered)" or "The Legend of Spyro: Pt. 4" (which is very possible because of the sequel bait from Dawn. Feel free to check it out, they make it very open to a sequel in more than one way.) I think a remaster is very likely since it is a separate trilogy than OG and has a fanbase made up of OG & LOS Spyro fans. The universes may be different, but Spyro is Spyro. I absolutely think it would be a massive hit, and I swear it's only a matter of time! A new game could happen, but circumstances may vary. "New Beginning" & "Eternal Night" both have the same gameplay feel, while "Dawn" is completely different. If they want to revisit the trilogy but also want to keep a constant game flow then they would have to make a new game. I personally hope it continues because the LOS trilogy is a gold mine for creative freedom/writing. They can quite literally do ANYTHING as long as it remains appropriate to the universe.
Let's not forget how they have dragged not just Spyro and Cynder into Skylanders, but the entire BLOODY lore from LOS Trilogy. Malephor, ancient dragons used to inhabit the Skylands, Dark Spyro, how the Skylands look so much like Avalar.....what are they doing? It's almost like THEY TOO also want to do something with LOS.
If I had to choose, I'd go with LOS all day. Don't even think that I'm calling OG Spyro bad. It's good in its own way. LOS is something separate, and if I had to pick which timeline to spend the rest of my life in, it would be LOS without a shred of doubt.

I wish Cynder stayed Black too. But I think I can make up two reasons:
    1. Since she was corrupted Malefor's energy, she got several other breaths, but we know that only purple dragons can breathe several breaths. She became purple because of her new abilities.
    2. It's also a symbol. She got raised with dark powers and never knew else. But she grew used to Spyro and her dark colors start to dissappear because she's not evil anymore.
Something else: for her bracelets, I think she has them to remind her that she once was Malefor's puppet. Maybe it's even foreshadowing about the fact that she still can be controlled by him, she's still his prisoner.

Personally I think Cynder being a dark purple in DOTD makes sense as it's stated that only Purple Dragons have more than one elemental ability. Cynder would therefor have to be some type of Purple Dragon to have the four elemental abilities she has. She's the dark counterpart to Spyro, so her being a Dark Purple Dragon makes sense to me. Maybe being stuck in a time crystal with Spyro made some of his power rub off on her? Would also explain the Aether breath ability she gets in DOTD as well

    • @CrystalBlazier
      @CrystalBlazier  4 роки тому +2

Nope. Jared Pullen, lead concept artist of ANB and TEN, confirmed that the Aether breath (Fury breath) was given to her due to Malefor's corruption, along with the other dark elemental powers she gained. The change in color with Cynder was just a change in art style/direction that never should've happened, it has nothing to do with story.

    • @TidalVex
      @TidalVex 4 роки тому

@@CrystalBlazier okay, but I personally think Cynder looks better being dark purple. Plus that color carried over into Skylanders, so if LoS was remade it might be a better idea to make her true from dark purple and keep her corrupted form black, making another parallel between her and Spyro. They could just add into the lore that Malefor's corruption turned Cynder into a "false purple dragon" to explain it away

    • @CrystalBlazier
      @CrystalBlazier  4 роки тому +2

But dark purple doesn't go with potential Wind dragons and it would still contradict with the whole purple dragon lore, born once every ten generations, etc. thing. It's fine to like the color but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense storywise when it suddenly appears in one game all because a game director liked it and disregarded the lore behind purple dragons.
An added detail on elemental dragons by Jared Pullen is that a dragon's eyes or scales matches their element, and seeing as how Cynder's eyes are green compared to Spyro's purple eyes...
But if they do decide to do inconsistency again with Cynder’s colors, then I hope they do go with the faux purple dragon thing you mentioned.

OKAY ALSO CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE EYES?! After the run in with the hermit and him VERY SPECIFICALLY MENTIONING EYES, then getting Malefor’s reveal and seeing his UNNATURAL GLOWING EYES, I fully expected a reveal that he was corrupted. Because what ELSE has glowing eyes? Dark Spyro. And it’s implied his dark side happened when he was exposed to convexity - while fighting Gaul. Between the eyes and the voice distortion, I fully expected the end to be Malefor getting redeemed and maybe sacrificing himself to save the world, completing his own destiny. I mean, purple dragons are meant for greatness. Why does Mal get yeeted into a crystal? Which oh by the way three characters already survived. We play as two of them. It’s not a very convincing “death”. Congrats you just imprisoned the bbeg. Again. That didn’t stop him once why would it stop him again? But AGAIN with the hermit - what was the point of that character?? To try and throw doubt on Cynder? Who we already learned to trust?? If you have a line like “your eyes give everything away” come ON. DO SOMETHING with that!! Mal is the ONLY DRAGON with glowing eyes! And with Cynder made dark purple, she nearly arched the also dark purple Malefor, further suggesting he was ALSO corrupted by SOMETHING...that would have been quite a reveal with potential further sequel material: something far more powerful in perhaps another realm, able to corrupt and control a purple dragon like Malefor...trying to destroy the world...

If Krome Studios were to make a reboot of Legend of Spyro Trilogy, just like Toys for Bob did in the form of the Reignited Trilogy, they could stick with Jared's ideas and use the help of the Reignited Developers to make a better version of this game series. I'm not saying Jared's artwork is awful, I still think it's really good and his ideas are very logical. It could be the backstory, before Spyro's fight with the Gnorc Warlord, Gnasty Gnorc. Maybe the Legend Trilogy would also explain how Gnasty was contained in Gnorc Gnexus in the first place. Gnasty could also have worked with Gaul and the Apes on their quest to free Malefor, all while adding in a little bit more variety for Malefor's military cult of vengeance.
If Krome did want to make a remake on the Legend Trilogy, they could also confirm who Spyro's *real* parents were and what happened to them. Many people have already theorized Ignitus being Spyro's Father, but who was Spyro's Mother and what happened to her on the Night of the Raid?
If the Legend Trilogy were to be remade into a prequel for the Reignited Trilogy, they could also explain what happened to Cynder after Dawn of the Dragon. Maybe Cynder would be concerned that Malefor might still have *some* loyal followers, like a few Gnorcs or Apes, and make it her mission to make sure Malefor will *never* return from his second prison. That might also support the reason Cynder wasn't in the Reignited Trilogy, should the story follow the same as Peter Jackson made The Hobbit Trilogy.

The thing about your idea is that it overlaps with some of the lore, worldbuilding and characters from both TLOS and the classic series. They already stated why Gnasty was banished to Gnorc Gnexus in the original game, and also other story elements that wouldn't make sense merged with the LOS lore.

    • @ryonhatcher4561
      @ryonhatcher4561 4 роки тому

@@CrystalBlazier I understand what you mean, but hear me out. In the Eternal Night game, most of the enemies are basically the same ones in the previous game, just reskinned. For example, the Arborick boss may look like a giant tree monster, but he's actually just a larger, reskinned version of the Stone Elemental from the first game. Since most of the enemies and bosses are reskinned versions of the ones from before, the combat mechanics are the same, as well. That's why Krome Studios gave the LOS Trilogy to the other people, who made Dawn of the Dragon, they didn't want to reskin the enemies and bosses again.
As for Gnasty Gnorc, I don't exactly know how and why he was contained in the Gnexus, but serving an evil dragon with a God Complex could be another reason.
If Krome Studios were to integrate the LOS Trilogy with the Reignited, it could add in new enemies and bosses, which in turn, means different ways to take them down.

Ryon Hatcher But Krome Studios isn’t part of Activision’s line of developers, they won’t be chosen for a Spyro game.
And Spyro: A Hero’s Tail (where Red the evil dragon and Gnasty Gnorc appeared in) was a sequel to the first Spyro game from the PS1 where Gnasty first appeared in the series. If you look at his backstory from the first Spyro the Dragon game, you’ll know why he was banished to Gnorc Gnexus in the first place. Gnasty Gnorc was banished by the Dragons from the Realms for his unruliness and refusal to live by the peaceful rules and customs of the Dragon Kingdom, and the Dragons chose to not bother with him again, until the events of the first game.

I know this video's a year old, but I still want to comment, just because I love these games. They were my introduction to Spyro, so they're kinda nostalgic for me. That being said, I agree with pretty much all your points in this video, but I'd like to give my input on specific changes I would make, personally.
Gameplay-wise, I personally feel the best thing for the Legend of Spyro trilogy would be to go the full Devil May Cry route, with Spyro and Cynder having alternate combos based on the timing of button presses and special melee abilities to go with their elements. Maybe take inspiration from Platinum Games' Korra game and give them completely different fighting styles, complete with separate stances, to go with each element since as far as I remember, the elements only effects the color of the trails left by the player characters' claw swipes when you're not actively using them. If you're gonna make a combat-focused game, make sure the combat is cool and fun, you know? I also think it'd be a fun, subtle bit of characterization to have Spyro and/or Cynder try to style on enemies, DMC style. Classic Spyro is a showoff, and while Legend Spyro is a total sweetheart in comparison, that's pretty much their only difference at the start of the series, so it'd be cool to see Legend Spyro try to show-off a little too, if only as a reminder that he's all of twelve years old. And the bit about being twelve applies to Cynder too. Maybe they could even make it so that Spyro gets more practical and precise with his moves over the course of Eternal Night and Dawn of The Dragon, while letting Cynder be the stylish one instead, since she doesn't have formal training the way Spyro does.
As someone who's not an artist, I can't really talk about the art style, though I do think Spyro's head and face in the first two games is way too huge, especially his eyes, and I think the only time Cynder wasn't ugly was in Dawn of The Dragon. I'd personally prefer the two to stick to pre-teen designs for the whole trilogy and have a bit more cuteness to them. Spyro's supposed to cute, and it only makes sense that Cynder should be cute too.
Can't say anything Lore-wise, mostly because I haven't really dived into what's been revealed about the Legend trilogy's lore that wasn't touched upon in the games, and even some of that is foggy at the time of writing this comment, but story-wise, I have wish: for Spyro and Cynder to just be close friends without having to be lovers. Now don't get me wrong, I love the Spyro/Cynder ship, but they weren't _meant_ to get together canonically, and I honestly think their characters would come off as stronger if they're platonic.
There's not really anything else I can say that others haven't already said.

Personally i think if they ever decided to remake the trilogy that gameplay wise they should look to Spyro a Hero's Tale. Have the levels be interconnected with different tasks to do in each land rather than just really long-ass levels of nothing but fighting off enemies perhaps expand the gameplay itself add in a little more lore into the game worlds, like maybe talking to characters will tell you more about how each land fell. Another thing i'd love in a potential remake is for them to change up the enemy types a little bit, especially with the pirates in The Eternal Night, they were literally just the ape's reskinned.
I'd love them to keep the music as is, because that is honestly gorgeous, but... (this is just for A New Beginning and the Eternal Night) in Dawn of the Dragon there was an option that let you turn off the voices and sound effects during cutscenes meaning you could watch the cutscenes with just the background music playing i'd love a similar option to be implemented in a potential remake/remaster of these games because there was so much great music that played during the cutscenes that you simple cannot get hold of unless they released a proper soundtrack.
And obviously above all else, fix the plot inconsistencies between the first two games and Dawn of the Dragon. One thing that always stuck out to me between TEN and DOTD was Malefor cursing the ape's and the ape's like what happened to cause him to do this, it seemed like a rather abrupt change and the explanation we're given in the game isn't really a good one considering Gaul was clearly loyal to Malefor like i need to know what happened here. Make the maps between games more consistent (and give Malefor his scary appearance from the Chronicler's tale), like maybe in A New Beginning you can see Warfang from the Temple balcony and as a bonus for getting 100% in the game you get to visit the City itself, or in regards to the Temple maybe use the version from the Eternal Night in A New Beginning but have all those area's we see in Eternal Night sealed off or destroyed due to the occupation of the Ape's and maybe as the game progresses more of the Temple becomes accessible, and then come time for the Eternal Night the Temple has been mostly rebuilt. I'd also love it if you could return to the Swamp and visit Spyro and Sparx parents like they just flat out forget they even exist after they leave. I mean if Jak and Daxter Precursor Legacy could have the entire world map visible back in 2001, there's no reason they couldn't do the same in a potential remake of Legend of Spyro.
...I have given this way too much thought I'm going to stop here before i get even more carried away. I've been on a bit of hype for this trilogy lately.

If Activision ever makes a TLOS remake/reboot in the future, they should probably improve on the gameplay, mechanics, and story. While I’ll admit I enjoyed playing Dawn of The Dragon I had some problems with the character designs. For example; most of the cheetahs designs (more like all of them) look almost exactly like Hunter which not only it can be confusing to some people, but that might Come across as creepy. An other problem I have is Ignitus’s death. Couldn’t Étranges Libellules make his death more intense and heartbreaking like getting killed by Malefor’s armies besides getting killed fire which makes no sense since he’s the guardian of fire. Like I said, if there was a remaster, hopefully the The Legend of Spyro trilogy might be revamped. That’s all I wanted say, I thought Dawn of The Dragon was a underrated but awesome game.

this might be an unpopular opinion but I think one thing that struck me was how narrow the games were.
I get that it was rushed and low budget. And correct me if I'm wrong, but I once was told that about 90% of the script was scrapped due to time consumption. If that was true, then to bad. I would have loved to see and lear of the world and what it had to offer, with its lore and stories. Culture and traditions. Society and environment. Myths and legends. And etc. Definitely feels like the game wants to be big. to expanding beyond the horizon and feel free once in awhile whenever you're not fighting enemies.
Perhaps all this could have made op for an intersting action-adventure open world role playing game.
But that's just my tough on it.

Agreed on surprisingly many counts, but one thing that IMO should've been discussed (but wasn't) is the music. To me, the music was the best individual aspect about the games. The main theme especially is amazing in how simple yet emotional it is. I remember first launching ANB on an emulator, and due to a bug the main menu options were invisible, so all that was there was the egg in the river and the music. I just stared at it for minutes and took in the atmosphere. Other memorable compositions include the Cynder battle pieces; Dream; the ambient themes at Celestial Caves, Twilight Falls and Valley of Avalar; and Burned Lands (beginning). If they remade the series or continued it, I'd want to see composer Kneubuhl back on board.

Honestly I never played past the first game, due to the games all releasing on different consoles and also bc the gameplay mostly consisted of boring padding in the form of repetitive combat and thus I both beat it in a day and thought it kind of sucked. But I do have some fondness for what they seemed to be trying to do with it, and certain elements appeal to me, like the aesthetic design for the levels (the character design is a touch lacking, but it wouldn't take much to fix it), and, above all else, the soundtrack. Oh, and Elijah Wood was a decent Spyro, even if he was a bit too old for the character he was playing, imo.
Hearing about the involvement of Mark Hamill, and then hearing just what the fuck they *did* to his voice... ngl, that majorly pissed me off, as it well should anybody with ears. Never heard that interview snippet before; my god, the voice he had was *perfect.* If they wanted a little extra spooky, they could have used just a *little* bit of effects; maybe some reverb and a lil bit of distortion or flangeing- that'd sound cool, I think. Just as long as his essence still comes through. Play it subtle, which will work in the sound design's favor anyways bc u want a nice creepy magical villain.
Honestly I feel like much of the story (and a lot of the character design) needs to be revisited and taken from the ground up. Keep what works, and change what doesn't until it does- whatever you can't fix, you throw away.
For some reason I had thought of Pyra as being older when I first read about him. Dude is tiny- looks about or build that the DotD version of Spyro is, actually. That horn shape makes me think he could be related to Ignitus, too- which might would make him related to Spyro, allegedly. Hmm... Oh, on that note, bc of his age, I'd more think that Ignitus would be his grandfather, if he's anything.
They should maybe add more guardians, if they have more elements in the story. Have some dark-aether guardians, and some female ones as well- pretty sure the original ice guardian was meant to be a female, instead of Cyril. Honestly, I'd prefer an ice queen over Cyril- if memory serves, he's kind of an arrogant, superior dick, from what little character interaction we get to see of him in the first game... Also, the gagging bit with Volteer would have made sense, and would have been slightly funny, in a dark sort of way...
God there's just... *so much* potential that this series has; it deserved better world building, and less padding, and a better ending- tho some of the hints I've seen mentioned towards Malefor's lore in the final game in Old Warfang had potential. Who was Malefor before he became what he's known as? I sincerely doubt he was dubbed as such when he was first hatched, for instance. What is his birth name? What was he like? There's plenty of evidence suggesting benevolence on his end, and even reverence among others, in even the very first game- the guardian statue in the dragon temple in the swamp. Oh gods it would have had so much potential... I can't remember what the artist guy said about it... also, he seems to not have been active in several years, sadly... though I suppose there's only so much he can say about Spyro. But surely he's done other work since then; even his main blog appears to be dead. I hope he's doing alright. For all the faults I have with Spyro's design in particular, his environmental and creature ideas were pretty unique, his lore ideas sound (and even highly interesting), and it was nice to see someone that actually seemed to give a damn about what they were doing with the project, and determined to make it good. In the end I reckon it was mostly stymied by a lower-end studio, and, yes, focusing just a little too much on famous voice talent (especially when David Spade sucks ass at Sparx- tho he was a poorly written- and designed- character to begin with...). At the very least hire Gary Oldman, if no one else- when he tries, we know that he is actually quite competent at character voices. And ofc, Mark Hamill- give him a chance to really shine this time! Cree Summer, who iirc was Cynder's original voice in the first game, is a career voice actress, so keeping her on would be just fine. Maybe find a young unknown to play Spyro- Elijah Wood is good, but he sounds too old for a kid. The idea I had for Sparx would require reworking a lot of his personality in the first place, but... either bringing back Billy West, or hiring on Richard Steven Horvitz.

My 2 cents: there are no plot holes, the the art design change can easily be read as: they just grew up. It's not hard to see it that way. Maybe unintentional, but if you look closely at the final cutscene of TEN (way more times than one should), you will notice the 2 dragons are drawn slightly older. Again, most likely unintentional. But it works.
And I wish you had magical powers, since I would love an expanded remake or at least one more game in the TLOS timeline.

I'm sure it's not a new thought, but I really feel like Dawn of the Dragon is so disconnected from the earlier two. I loved the game, I enjoyed it and replayed it many times, it just didn't feel like the same world, and in a way I mourn that, the lost potential. I never really liked DotD's graphics compared to the others, I didn't like the attempt of realism and honestly I feel like it would have been easier for the team to use the previous art styles, just some remodelling and updating and they could still show off all their flashy effects. The moles in Dragon city could be divisions of the manwesmalls, an effortless callback, some of the larger enemies are perfect for the swamp golem designs, even if they were set on the apes being completely gone there were a range of enemies that could have been called upon, which would delight fans and cut down on having to make new designs
I think an edit on Malefor's defeat could easily be done to paint his ambition in hubris. He wanted to tear the world apart, and he was, he got the core of the earth. Maybe he still does, maybe Spyro and Cynder are defeated near the surface, and Malefor dives down, only to learn with all his strength he is still no match for the core of a planet. He's weakened, he's barely able to stand, he tries to climb back up but he simply can't, he's gone too far. They could keep the dragon spirits, if they wanted, they could still consume Malefor, just in such a more theoretical way- maybe the spirits of thousands of dragons are able to pull the earth back together, trapping him at the centre of the earth, crushed and encased in layers upon layers of magma and stone

I took the change in Spyro and Cynder's design was from the change of artstyle rather than aging them up...I think I read somewhere that in ANB and EN they would have been between 12-13. I think it's best not to take this part too seriously
I would love to have more scenes of character interactions, this is a must!
Yeah I thought giving flat "Barney" teeth to the older dragons was weird too...I thought it was just some kind of limitation at the time.
I had recently thought of my own Headcanon reason why Cynder would have Dark Purple scales, I figured that in Eternal Night when she slapped Spyro out of that pillar of energy she absorbed some of Malefor's power which is why she now had the new uncanny powers including Aether, so she'd be something like a Second Artificial Purple Dragon. Still I think she looks way better in Black.
Yeah, I didn't know that Malefor's Voice was Mark Hamill till way later when I was watching a compilation of characters he's voiced. I promptly geeked out about it because that's awesome but I wish...they could have made Malefor sound unnatural without overshadowing Mark's voice talent.
Yeah I would like to get more on Malefor's Story as well. The Chronicler in the game just prior had said that there have only been 2 Purple Dragons and you would think he would be the one to know since he has the entire history of dragons there at his disposal. Was he lying to Spyro? Is Malefor telling the truth, is he just bullshiting Spyro to make him lose morale, does he believe it himself? The lack of concrete answers just leaves things up in the air.

Honestly this would actually make for an interesting TTRPG campaign setting. Just follow the main story beats but add and expand on existing and deleted concepts. Maybe make custom spells and feats for the different classes. Would be quite a bit of work of course-but doable.

I’m personally satisfied with how the ‘Legend’ ended and while I’d *love* a remake/remaster, I wouldn’t mind if it didn’t happen as they still look, sound and play very well. 😊

About what you said about the voice cast for a potential remake to cast an underated actors I totally agree.
For my recomondation for the voice of Cynder and Malefor, I would have cast the actors who voiced them in Skylanders Academy Tv show Felicia Day and Jim Cummings.
Now despite my clear dislike for the show, the only thing what I liked and why I dislike the show even more is because the casted a perfect actors who can perfectly play those characters and yet they do nothing with them, if anything they just downgraded their characters.
So I think these actors could have been a perfect voice for these characters. Like Felicia Day as Cynder could have been a massive improvment over Cristia Ricci and Jim Cumming as Malefor would have been just 😙👌 match in heaven.
Now, before you say it actually wouldn't work because he's know as a voice of kid friendly, cartoonish lovible characters like Winnie Pooh and Tiger and not dark and disturbing characters like Malefor, you do realise that Jim Cumming is also a voice actor and one responseble for one of the most darkest and most terrifying version of Dr. Robotnik ever conceived in Sonic franchise
    Let that sink in

Oh forget about the reception from years ago. The people who hated them can talk about the gameplay all they want. But the story was actually great(at least until the third game)and better than the original trilogy, considering there’s more delving into the lore and working on character development. This trilogy needs a remaster. That’s all we ask for.

JC Gregory The story may have been good but it needs revising and more lore. Knowing most remasters, the story will be the same without much improvements besides fixing inconsistencies and story errors made by the change in game developers from Krome Studios to Estranges Libellules.

I hope the studio will see this videos, or what you said and considered it. It would be so awesome. But... As you I don't put that much hope in it. But maybe if they hear us ? X)

15:48 Well hold on, it would explain why Ignitus didn't become completely shocked when he found Spyro again in his teen years, and why Hunter would say "We head to Warfang, the Dragon City, where Ignitus will be expecting us."
I think Hunter did find him but decided "eh, let him rest. I'll go see if Ignitus wants him out yet" and he probably said "No. Let's wait until we need him or he is discovered, then let him out"

    • @CrystalBlazier
      @CrystalBlazier  4 роки тому +3

Consequence No. 62 Doesn’t really make sense to wait 2+ years to tell Ignitus. :/
In DOTD, Hunter had just found Spyro, Sparx and Cynder and sent the falcon afterwards when they reached Twilight Falls.

There isn’t much I would change about the first game other than that it got repetitive. Even with the out of date graphics, the art design isn’t beautiful and still makes me curious to see more of the world. And I love the idea of more character interaction.
Same with the second game. It would also be cool to see a map in order to understand where all of the locations are in relation to each other. Also turn down the green sludge coming out of the well of souls a bit.
In the third game, let Spyro and cinder get found and find out about the current situation. Then do a jump forward to when they’re maybe like half the size of a full grown dragon. Let the player fly from the roof tops in the city and explore it before the major battles kick off. Let them engage the enemy on the battle field and honestly lose the world falling apart aspect. That seemed dumb to me. Created stakes that weren’t needed. Make the game an all out war to show us how the kind of battles Ignitis would have fought in in his prime. Then let the final battle with Malifor be on the battlefield, maybe he takes out ignitis, and some others. Have the final battle be out there on the battlefield to stop him from leading his forces to the city he’s trying to capture. Smaller Stakes, but bigger impact because you’ve been given time to connect with what is being attacked. I know it sounds like a hard reboot of the last game but it’d make more sense in my opinion.

I would so love for a... redo? Of the Legend of Spyro. I love the series, but I also agree with everything in this video. Legend of Spyro had so much more potential, it could use another try of the same concept, rather than just a prettier skin that a remake is.

I would sell my soul to make this a reality. If it's true that there was going to be three more games after Dawn of the Dragon then I need to see The Legend of Spyro become a proper saga, building from a full reimagining or remake akin to Final Fantasy 7 Remake (in my eyes, each of the three games felt too short, like there could be a lot more to each of them).
I think its safe to say the earliest we could hypothetically expect this (if at all), would be 2026: 20 years after A New Beginning. Or maybe 2028, 20 years after Dawn of the Dragon.

  • @maverickwolf4980

Y'know, i think the best thing that could happen when spyro and cynder goes dark on Dawn of the Dragon would be doing something similar to Resident Evil 5 where the other dragon would be trying to evade all of Spyro's/Cynder's attacks while trying to bring them back from the darkness by calling them, trying to get to their minds.

The Skylanders comics did more justice to Malefore than Dawn of the Dragon did. Even after Malefore lost all his powers, after he stole them from the skylanders, they still had to slam a ship the size of a small island into him then tie him up to an anchor and throw him off a cliff because they could not beat him. Honestly running someone over with a dreadnaut and then throwing them off a floating island into the abyss with a 10 ton anchor actually sounds a bit more intense then just sealing him away in a purple crystal.
You don't need an adult theme to make something interesting, just good writing.

When I played ANB and TEN as a kid I was always frustrated by how linear the games were and the hallway level designs and I wished I could revisit areas w/o having to replay the game/NG+ it. To me it always felt like they were missing a dialogue system of some sort. I know adding these things in would fundamentally alter the way the games play, but I think it could also decrease the repetitiveness to an extent. I also think adding in a quest system of some sort could also help. I think I felt this way and still do bc of how classic Spyro games encouraged you to explore. TEN kind of expanded a bit on this by adding the quills and dragon helmets, but it felt more like it was was just tacked on.
And the tutorials. Lord, TEN and ANB have the worst tutorials I've ever seen in a video game. You shouldn't be forced to do tutorials which are 90% same just bc you gained a new element. I know the breaths work differently, but the melees really don't, although I don't remember a lot of things since it's been so long since I last played ANB, but the game has no reason to force you to do melee combos between different elements when they work the same.
Something that always bothered me when I played DotD was Spyro losing dragon time and it never getting acknowledgement, though it's really not surprising bc of DotD having different developers from ANB and TEN. Also, the combat system in DotD needs a complete overhaul, the heavy attacks are really bad, I get they're supposed to have long startups but this is just bad.
Those are all of my thoughts on TLoS.

Activision should start with the first legend of Spyro and the second legend of Spyro instead of dawn of the Dragon because I don’t think that Dawn of the Dragon, was that good I mean it was good but it wasn’t that’s good. And I agree legend of Spyro can be improved just start from the first game of the legend of Spyro to the second. Don’t age the characters.
