This video was great! It was moving, entertaining, and fun. I also want to say that I like how intentional you both are about where you go visit. I feel that you both look beyond the touristy things and landmarks of the places you visit. You dive deeper into each place’s history and people. It makes your channel stand out to me as a place I can go to for entertainment but also to learn something new! 😊
Thank you, Marlene. It means a lot to us for you to recognize and appreciate what we do 🙏🏼❤️ we are happy that you enjoy our work thank you so much for your kind comment
Everything about Dia de Muertos seems to have been thought out in great detail. It is interesting to know that every state can do things just a bit differently. I appreciate how respectful you are thru the whole video. Thank you for sharing pictures of your loved ones, some too young, I was in tears between the pictures and the music. Very touching.
thanks, Cindy. One of the pictures was my father, He was probably one of the younger faces you saw, sitting on a bed on the day of my mom's baby shower when she was pregnant with me. He passed at the age of 53, just last year. Making this video 10 months after his death was an opportunity to continue processing my complicated grief. It's a super special special video for this and other reasons. Thank you for watching it ❤️ - Jenny
You guys….this video made me so emotional. My Papa was from Aguascalientes. He never went back after immigrating to the US. I am going, finally, in March to visit his querido Aguascalientes’nnnn. Thank you so much for making this video. It makes me so proud to be an Hidrocálida! My condolences for your losses 🙏🏽 They are your ancestors now ❤️💀🕯🏵
😟 wow, it's great that you will be visiting. I hope you feel close to him while you are in Aguascalientes. Thanks so much for your comment and kind words. Saludos
Honestly this is probably our favorite video ever made. It was so beautiful to learn about the Día de muertos tradition and be able to make an personal and emotional video.
This is very well researched video. So much I formation for the people who really want to understand everything about Día de muertos. I'm so sorry for your losses.
Jenny & Kevin Kudos for the research that was conducted to make this informative, interesting and inspirational video. My deepest sympathy to you both. The love, respect and honor shown in this video is making your ancestors pleased. Chicago Finest!
Thank you so much. Sorry we haven’t been great with responding lately we have been super busy but we truly appreciate your comment. We are always trying to represent Chicago in the best way possible. Saludos Anna!
Anna Ware I would like to say something about the origin of the icon of the Mexican Day of the Dead: "La Catrina" by the famous Mexican printmaker, cartoon illustrator and lithographer José Guadalupe Posada. The image of a female skeleton is dressed in European outfit from his upper class time. She is offered as a satirical portrait of those Mexican natives who, Posada felt, were aspiring to adopt European aristocratic traditions in the Mexican pre-revolutionary era. So "La Catrina" has become an icon of this Mexican Day of the Dead. I invite you to know more about this author. ua-cam.com/video/tXKLX3QQ7yk/v-deo.html
The first half was so interesting and the second half so moving. I am sad to hear that you have been through so many recent losses. You clearly put a lot into this and I hope it is widely seen.
This really tugs at my heart.. You could really feel the love and pride of your departed loved ones 🙏🏽🇲🇽 💞🕯🌹 You two do an amazing job! I've learned so much about where my Familia is from (Aguascalientes, Jalisco, Guanajuato & Michoacán).. i can't wait to go back and take in the sites that I haven't seen. Thank you!! 😊❤
Guys! This was a great video! We have also been living in Mexico for a few months. I have been very touched by Dia de los muertos because of so many losses that I have experienced as well. You gave me all the information I need to have a great alter next year. I find that this is a very cathartic way of dealing with death that celebrates the lives of those we have lost. I was so touched by the memorial at the end as well! I hope we run into y’all in Mexico soon!
Never has anyone explained day of the dead traditions so completely , I feel like I now have a deeper understanding of what it means - I think it’s a beautiful tradition and your explanation of the what takes place during those days was very informative. I never knew about half of the things you talked about . The town’s decorations were awesome ! Great job on this video ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🇲🇽❤️👍. This is a video to be proud of ! 😃

Fantastic video - informative, respectful and very moving! Thank you so much!!! I thought I knew something about dia de muertos (I even visited a panteon in Puerto Vallarta on Nov 1, 2019) but you added a whole new dimension. You obviously researched this topic carefully and shared the information in a very interesting and helpful way. To top it off, you made it personal by telling us about your own recent losses. On that note, I want to say that I am sorry for your loss. I am sure that your loved ones would be very proud to see the loving tribute that this video represents. Well done! (PS - I loved the musicians in the library - that was beautiful!)
And I thought I knew the history of Día de Muertos! You guys really did your research. It’s a beautifully, well made video. My condolences to you both.
You missed to mention that the Mexicas only placed the altar only for four years as this was thought it was the time it took to spirits to travel all of the 9 levels of the Mictlan. The altars was thought was helpful to restore their strength to keep on with their journey.
Such a powerful and emotional video in less than 15 minutes 👏👏 Thanks for clarifying the misconceptions there is behind the Dia de Muertos. Many people oversimplify and believe that it is a celebration of death but quiet the opposite, it is an acknowledgement of life. It is a remembrance, a tribute and an honor to those who have departed from this earth in going on to a different world. Instead of trying to explain to people what the significance of this tradition Is, I’ll just refer to them this fascinating video👍 Saludos and sorry for your loss 🙏🏼😪
I really enjoyed the informative, entertaining, and the personal video. I am following you as I see the great work you do. You have inspired me and I participated in the Día de Los Muertos celebration in San Miguel de Allende. I even went to the local panteón. I have recommended my friends to follow your posts.
The best video on el Dia de Muertos I’ve seen… Ever. In addition to all of the historical content, I loved the subtle touch of playing La Llorona as the background music. Aguascalientes is where my family was from. Thanks for putting a spotlight on them.
Awesome video and truly touching tribute to your friends and family who have moved on. So impressive how you guys keep creative and keep upping your game. Happy to see your subscriber count flying upwards! All the best guys! 🤙😎🙏💖
mendigas cebollas... jajaja thanks so much. Yea, we didn't know all of these things either. We learned so much during research and exploring the festival here in Aguascalientes. It's an amazing event.
Nice video. Aguascalientes is where my family is from. My family has a history with the catrina. Posada was an apprentice to the Pedroza printing press. Guadalupe Posada and Trinidad Pedroza were known as jokesters, but they took their satire too far and in 1876 got kicked out of Aguascalientes because they made fun of a man named Jesus Gomez Portugal who was a Cacique (local boss). Many Pedrozas still live in Aguascalientes, but we are no longer in the printing business, the Pedroza family is now known for cheese production. I always find it funny that something that started out as satire has gone this far, but if it helps Aguascalientes I am all for it.
Wow that's so cool about your family history! We did read that Posada was kicked out because of his political cartoons and eventually came back. Fascinating how everything turned out!
You’re right! Did I misspeak? A couple of times I referenced “what is today Mexico” and “behind contemporary borders”, so I tried, but apologies if I misspoke at some point. Thanks for watching 🙂
