    Peak Stan vs peak Novak is one of the most spectacular matchups ever

    • @mikemoggerson6651
      @mikemoggerson6651 5 місяців тому +7

      I think current Novak matches up better against peak Stan. 2011-2016 Novak wasn’t aggressive enough on his forehand and didn’t have a good enough serve. Overall, Novak’s style worked against almost everyone but in slams Stan had the stamina and power to equal Novak from the baseline. He was truly a monster when he was playing his best tennis.

    • @maka3230
      @maka3230 5 місяців тому +5

      @@mikemoggerson6651that's cause stan was aggressive, so it's harder for Novak to set up his winners.

      @@maka3230 Novak now has more power and depth on his forehand side than he used to (especially from 2012-2016, when he stopped using the forehand as aggressively as he did in 2011). Against Sinner in the ATP finals, he was averaging 140 km/h forehand speed which never would have happened back in 2013. He wasn’t pushing opponents back as much as he is now, at least off the forehand. This played right into Stan’s hands.

    • @stanleyextra2812
      @stanleyextra2812 5 місяців тому +1

      @@mikemoggerson6651 Not a valid comparison though as Sinner is not as hard heavy hitter as prime Wawrinka. Hitting hard plays even more into Wawrinka's hand, he can beat anyone in baseline duel, the only smart way is to play consistent and hope he makes mistake and/or tire out but when Stan is consistent with good stamina, he is like a cheat code basically. Moreover Djokovic seems to be playing more aggressive that final against Sinner than other times because Sinner seems to be somewhat more passive giving plenty of opportunities for Djokovic to attack. 2015 Djokovic can hit a lot harder than you think but he choose to play it smart and save energy for longevity, definitely not as hard as 2011 but definitely harder than this 2023 version.
      Also there are people thinking Novak is still young at 36 year and is in his prime right now. That is ridiculous and just comes from ignorance. Performing at elite sports at that kind of stress levels ages you way faster than normal human aging. Just because Novak is good at slowing down his aging does not mean he is not aging or reverse-aging. His special diet and lifestyle allow him to stay fitter for longer period of time than all his rivals. These youngsters are biased for the nextgen...but when they get old themselves and keep losing against stronger fitter newcomers they will realize it is not age giving Djokovic advantage(in fact it is more a disadvantage) and that Djokovic is simply special and came from special generation of Big 3.

    • @mikemoggerson6651
      @mikemoggerson6651 5 місяців тому

      @@stanleyextra2812 Sinner is a massive hitter, what are u talking about? Djoko’s plan was to neutralize his power by hitting extremely deep and powerfully. He never, ever played that aggressively in 2015 for example.
      And Wawrinka always struggled against Nadal and other players in baselines duels. He wasn’t unbeatable by any stretch, but for whatever reasons (personal, tactics, play style, etc ) he just matched up perfectly against Novak in grand slams.
      Wawrinka got utterly dominated in non slam matches by Djokovic, which was bizarre. Young Novak’s war of attrition style wouldn’t work as well as older Novak’s style in my honest opinion.

  • @skylaxx
    @skylaxx 5 місяців тому +38

    Stan said many times he enjoys playing Djoko as he plays similar robot-like tennis on the baseline with rhythm. The only difference during his top level 3-4 years was he could outhit and outlast Djoko on several occasions. Stan firing on all cylinders was a force of nature. Also thank you for doing the effort and putting up the highlights. Nice one at 10:18 shows attention to details and that you are tennisnerd ;)

    Djokovic's problem with Stan is that the Swiss is incredibly strong and has a fantastic stamina. Wawrinka can hit big 2-3-4-5 hours. You just won't find any other player with that kind of endurance.

      I believe evolved Djokovic (2021+) would actually handle prime Stan easier than younger Djokovic. Of course, Djokovic always dominated Stan outside of slams but in slams it was a war.
      The reason I believe old Djokovic would do better is that now he hits much harder/deeper from his forehand side and plays more attacking tennis, and generally has a much better serve. Djokovic’s 2011-2016 style allowed Stan to tee off with his mega powerful ground strokes, where Novak almost seemed to be shocked that Stan could do it so consistently. Most players would hit a million unforced errors. Djokovic’s more defensive style worked almost perfectly in those days against the vast majority of players due to his quickness and his ability to beat you easily from the baseline. However his current more attacking and powerful forehand would have suited him better back then against Stan.
      That’s what a lot of people don’t get. Tennis is about matchups…Djokovic may not necessarily be better now than he was in 2015, but certain matchups may favour an older/younger version of a player depending on their relative strengths. It’s like how Federer 2017 onwards learned how to consistently beat Nadal off clay due to his evolved backhand. Doesn’t mean he was as good as 2006, but certain aspects helped against certain players.

      The US open then was actually slower than it is today. Also, the ATP finals (CPI of 45+) were the fastest courts this year, not Davis Cup. The faster the courts, the less chance Nadal (who beat Djokovic after this match) has to beat Djokovic. The US open was slowing in the 2010s so in recent years they have sped it up.
      I can’t link an article on UA-cam, but there’s an article on tennis abstract that shows the relative surface speeds in 2013 (based on ace rate, which is somewhat accurate) that shows the US open was quite a bit slower than other hard courts that season, in particular the quick indoor courts. Out of the big HC tournaments, Paris, Shanghai, Cincinnati, Australian Open, and the Tour finals were all quicker that year

    Novak is the GOAT if you go by numbers & records, which shouod determine the GOAT in any sport. That said, I've seen a few players who have been able to beat the GOAT; their best against his best:
    Wawrinka beat the Djoker at the French Open, Australian Open (kind of tough to do), and the U.S Open (twice). That said, Djoker has a 21-6 edge, but Stans best against Djokers best, I'm taking Stan.
    Kyrgios is 2-1 against the Djoker, but lost the big one at Wimbledon.
    Djokers best vs Nicks best, I'm going with Djoker.
    Safin 2-0 against Djoker, but Novak was young & nowhere near his best.
    Del Potro beat Djoker in the Olympics (twice), Davis Cup & Indian Wells. Djoker has a 16-4 record against Delpo. Both at their best (2009 U.S Open Delpo), im taking Delpo.

      @j.jmcquade5278 NOT Djokovic (number 3 and winner AO) BUT Safin (number 75) was NOWHERE NEAR HIS BEST. Still he beats Djokovic in three sets in just two hours and faces only one breakpoint. Very impressive! In the semi final he lost to Federer.

    Totally uninteresting. What's the fun in watching a single player's best points?

    Where is Stan vs. Novak? They are no match, Novak is the GOAT, 24 GrandSlams vs. 3, there is no comparison. It might be a good match but thats all...

    If Federer had the mental strength as his countryman he would never have lost to Doko.

    If Wawrinka did apprenticeship with Djokovic instead of Federer he would have achieved more. He chose to go with the looser.

    You are so hopeless to deny Djokovic, and making videos where Novak "have problems" "losing" etc.... Resistence is futile
