I'm two years late on this one but man, I loved these games so much and was flipping through your reacts on these as I was listening to the OSTs again. I sank so many hours into 'em. I have old memory cards somewhere that still have saves on them! I've got the OSTs, the artbooks, even some of the Japan only comics, there's so much good stuff. The one thing I think I feel sad about is that you didn't seem to see the second opening for Wild ARMs 2-- it was an entirely different vibe but the horns. God, the horns. You'd absolutely lose your goddamn mind. They still hit me like a freight train every single time.

Just note for this game, as you progress both the intro animation and its music melody changes several times. My favorite version of this song, “Advanced Wind”, is the Whistle version. That version alone fills me up with a great sense of adventure. I remember playing the demo countless times back in the day. That song and demo made me a Wild Arms fan.

Wild Arms is pretty unique for two main reasons: it's more or less the only JRPG series that takes place in a "wild west"-ish setting (lots of guns, horses, trains, bandits, deserts, and so on, though it also mixes magic and technology in), and a huge focus on puzzles in its dungeons. Sadly, the series died after Wild Arms 5 on PS2, many years ago (except for a short stint as a mobile game). I highly recommend it for fans of classic JRPGs with interesting mechanics, epic stories, and lots of side content/exploration!

There was also a tactics based game in the series for the PSP called Wild Arms XF! It was pretty neat and shared some similarities to Final Fantasy Tactics, but it was hexed based instead of square tiles. I'm sad that we've not had another Wild Arms game in so long.

I also love the puzzles. And the combat UI also looks very similar to Lufia 2. I imagine some of the same folks must have worked on it. Sadly both franchises are dead these days.

Wild Arms 3 was the high point of the series. One of my favorite JRPGs of all time, incredibly ambitious in its scope and scale, with fantastic music and a sweeping, evolving story that really felt like playing through SEVERAL seasons of an anime. Trigun is the closest thing I can think of, with similar themes and setting, and some REALLY strong characters. An HD re-release was not enough for this game: it deserves a full remake with 3D cel shading and a voice cast to do justice to its original vision.

      Honestly I'm split between 3 and 4.
I very much remember 4 more fondly, I've always had a hard time getting through 3.
5 was, well, it was more like a fan game that would have made a better anime - but I *_absolutely loved_* that they gave Raquel Applegate technically a canon "Good Ending" in that one 😭😭😭😭😭

Always thrilled to see something from Wild ARMS. I still strongly recommend you give the world map theme from Wild ARMS 1 a shot (the PS1 version, not the remake). The opening theme is also worth a listen. Wild ARMS is a JRPG that is wild west themed. Each game takes place on the increasingly desertified planet Filgaia. The sad thing is almost no RPG does Puzzles like Wild ARMS did it. Puzzles are Wild ARMS strength. Each character in the party had unique tools. For instance in WA1 Rudy had Bombs, an Item Radar, Jet Skates, and a Power Glove. Jack had his Wind-Mouse companion Hanpan (who could dash over empty gaps), a Lighter, a Grappling Hook, and a Guitar (That was needed to summon certain monsters including bosses). Cecelia had the TearDrop crystal, the Pocket Watch (which reset puzzles without leaving a room), a water vase with an endless supply of water, and a wand to talk to animals. You had to use those 12 items throughout the game to solve various puzzles. In each game, every character had a unique set of tools that were used in situations that really made you stop and think and required experimentation... Games don't have the creative puzzles like that anymore. Most are just find a switch to open a door or how do you shuffle the alternating door locks to move forward? kind of things.
And to my knowledge there were only 5 games plus a tactical RPG in the WA series. There's also an Anime but it's not really very good. The title refers to ARMS or Ancient Relic MachineS. They're functionally guns made from the Metal Demon Race that invade the world a long time ago and were fought off in a war. That war also kick started the planet Filgaia slowly turning to a desert world.

Wild Arms never really got the same attention as other jrpgs, but it's so nostalgic to see this. It brings me back to renting the first one from Hollywood Video an trying to whistle along to the opening. For me, the Wild Arms series is up there with Koudelka/Shadow Hearts as series that should have gotten more love than it did.

Last time you spoke about game intros I recommended Wild Arms 2 Intro theme and I'll do it again, *the western version, without vocals,* is so good! It's an anime intro because every time you load the save, it plays. Couldn't skip, EVER.

Wild Arms is a series of Wild West themed Fantasy JRPGs spanning roughly the length of the Ps1 and Ps2 Eras. There are 5 mainline entries, one PsP Strategy RPG and a mobile gacha game they renewed the license for and got all of our goshdarn hopes up.
They remain famous among RPG fans even 15 years after their last release in part due to their unique premise, having no fear of striding proudly into full on camp and spaghetti western tropes(the main character of 3 spends a solid 10-20 minutes across the game just giving speeches about the nature of justice) and the fact that every game in the series has an animated intro like this that plays every time you load a file.
Advanced Wind in Wild Arms 3 has 3 or 4 slightly different animations that play depending on the point in the story you've reached, primarily due to the changing primary threat to the party throughout the game.
If you can't tell a fair number of people, myself included, hold out hope that eventually this pioneer during the Wild West of JRPGs will make a triumphant return.

The song is meant to have been sung by the lead character in the game as well; It's sort of her "lietmotif", and represents not only her naivety and innocence to the dying world of Filgaia, and those to challenge the wastes that she views as heroes, but also represents her encountering things to challenge her worldview and refusing to let it change her and who she is at her core. Virginia Maxwell is probably one of my favorite female protags in any JRPG. Virginia sees hope in a world that others have lost all hope for, even as the world decays around them, both physically and metaphorically, and her actions inspire a hope for the future in those around her, as well as her three far more experienced with the world and sometimes cynical or pragmatic companions.

Wild arms was a rather obscure but memorable series for me. All of the ones I played in my childhood have a short opening that plays before the press start button, AND an ending song that plays when you choose to quit the game from the menu (starting from wild arms 2). The story of games tend to be fairly standard, except for wild arms 2 perhaps, but what really fascinated me about the game was the ost. It's been nearly 2 decades since then, but I still have the games in my cabinet, and I still have some of the ost in my playlist.
I still remember fondly how I figured out the notes to play the first game's intro on recorder myself and performed it for my music practical test back at elementary school. Nobody recognized the song, of course, but I didn't really care xD

Man. I love this game. It was the first PS2 game I purchased with my own money, and it was because of the full blown mini game they developed for it on browsers that had you running around the map unlocking assets to view, like videos and key art. It's such a great story and textbook anime, complete with "power of friendship" vibes, and a very unique soundtrack.

I still have yet to play WA3 but since I love WA1 so much and I've listened to this song again and again, hearing this again after a few years really made me tear up.
The problem with the normal soundtrack is that it's normally even shorter D: You don't notice when you play and it loops but the soundtrack is sadly SO short.
Also, there are 5 Wild Arms but people normally say 3 was the absolute peak and that's why I'm still so interested it playing after 1 and 2!

Samantha Newark is the singers name. You should check out the Japanese version too. It randomly picks between the two when the intro boots up. Another thing is the intro changes visuals as you go along in the game. it has about 5 variations of animation depending on what point of the game you are at and since they are all the same song, you can look up the variations without worrying about spoiling a song you may not have heard yet.
Best song is probably -There is only one family named Schrodinger it is the theme of the rivals from the same game.

I was a teenager in 2005 when I first got introduced to Wild Arms, I found it in a bargain section of a game store and at the time I was going through pretty much every JRPG that I could find. Since I had a PS2 slim and a small television in the closet of my room I decided to pick it up, it was about 11pm when I got home and I booted this game up in my quiet dark room and this song came flickering across the screen of my television.
This is one of my favorite games, the song always sends a chill down my spine and makes me excited to play the game. So far I've played it at least four times over my life and I'll probably play it again. It might not be as popular or as well polished as some of the other games out there, honestly it's kind of a mess.
But... I think that's what make's it great, it's rough around the edges and has a lot of character.

also the song it played was slightly random each time you loaded a save.
Assuming the English version: you had a about 90% chance to get the English version, about a 8% chance to get the Japanese version, and a 2% chance to get the Whistle version (which otherwise only plays during the Prologue version of the Opening but is guaranteed to play during that portion if you saved and quit after finishing a prologue chapter).

Man, Wild Arms was such a great series that sadly died in the PS2 era due to having some rather underperforming games but it's such a unique style of game with music you typically don't hear anywhere else because JRPGs don't often mix western "cowboy" music with the standard bombastic JRPG fare. Wish I knew the names of the songs but I still whistle one of the overworld themes because it's just so dang catchy.

And as others have said, depending where you were in the game, it would be different visuals... The version of the song would change too... There was a Japanese version and an instrumental whistling version (I think it was synth rather than someone actually whistling)... I'm not sure if the other games do the same, I only played this one so far... It was an interesting JRPG with a few interesting gimmicks in the battle system, cool puzzles and a neat Wild West Fantasy Sci Fi world... I should probably try to play more of them.

As other people mentioned, there's multiple versions of this song which will appear on startup depending on how far you have progressed into the game. While I like this one, you might enjoy checking out the version that uses whistling instead of the vocal track. It does a much better job of conveying the "Wild West" setting of the game, and allows you to focus more on the great instrumentation of the opening.
