As a female War Veteran I was crying with her. And outraged that a soldier of honor who served her Country with such dignity and grace would be treated so horribly. Let me say to you, NK Thank you for your service to your Country. I know how much it means to me when someone says, "Thank you for your service." So I want to say it to you in sincerity. Take care.

Watching her breakdown is hard. No one deserves to go through what she has. She deserves the world for what she has gone through and survived. Hearing that she tried to kill herself hurts me. I hope she knows that we are all here for her and wish her the best♥️

The worst thing about it is, they make you beat yourself up. You feel guilty for not living up to what's expected of you., and all the energy you put into that is yours.
Those tears are righteous and justly earned. I'm glad she's in a better space now.

I was thinking the same thing. You can see the pain in their eyes. It takes an evil force to treat people like they are treated. I wish I had the power to rescue all of them.
I'm glad that she was able to escape that hell hole. She now knows a better life and she's able to reflect and have some closure.
She escaped but had to leave her daughter behind !!! How do you think that feels ?? Knowing your child is left in that shithole you just escaped from and will probably be punished for your crime

But please don't misconstrue or derive from my small innocuous comment that I believe her life will be unicorns and rainbows just because she escaped to South Korea. It's well documented that the NK government declared all defectors' immediate family will enter hard labor camps to die. She was psychologically tortured and physically abused by her in-laws in North Korea. You will always have scars from that. I was just commenting on her expression of pain and thankful that she's on the path of healing.

I'm as pleased as you that she managed to escape and it's easy for us to say "why" or "what if" but until your in that situation you never really have any idea.
I've tried to imagine myself in her situation and couldn't imagine myself trying to escape knowing my daughter will be punished harshly for what I did. If I couldn't take my family with me I don't think I'd be able to leave. I don't know what happened to her husband ?
As an American woman, I just want to send this woman all of my hugs and comfort. Her videos break my heart. I have cried so many times listening to her stories. No one should ever have to endure everything she has endured in her lifetime. Kim Jeong-Hwashi, I hope you are blessed for the rest of your years, reunite with your daughters, travel around the world, and have enough food and money to have a happy life.

How can one not have their heart break watching this poor woman, and knowing what she's had to go through. Even though I'm Canadian , they should have been so good to this woman who dedicated her life oh, God bless you and keep you safe
I'm also Canadian(born on Vancouver Island, now residing in Winnipeg.) It is shocking to me that most of the soldiers there suffer from malnutrition. If Kim wants a strong army, he should feed them, not only because it's humane, but you can't be an effective soldier if you're barely able to function due to starvation.
@@louisejohnson6767 north korea uses food as a means to control their population. 300 to 700 kcals a day is considered normal. It's a way to cultivate people into submission by breaking their psychological barriers.

Watching her reaction was hard. There are many US soldiers who suffer mental anguish and homelessness, suicide rates increase every year here. As a fellow commissioned officer nurse from the United States, I wish to say 대단히 감사합니다 to her 🙏 Even if it was not expressed at that time, her service was a valued contribution to community and humanity.

I really hope someone show her daughters the videos she has made to show how much pain and suffering she had to go through and is still hard. She always loved them a mothers love is never forgotten but at the time she couldn't take them with her. I pray one day her daughters will be with her and her heart will be whole again.

The country (people) she served is being oppressed, but her service was honorable nonetheless. If you are an American and would like the issue of North Korea addressed, you should contact your elected officials and make a request.
I agree, i don’t know if there’s a whole lot we can do though... if we intervened militarily I think China would possibly back them and that would be a mess. Even if China didn’t we would have to worry about Kim Jung Un using nuclear weapons on South Korea or even the US. As far as economic pressure, we’ve already put massive sanctions on them. It’s a really difficult situation 😔
Unfortunately, complaining while Donald Trump was in office did no good. As a conservative Republican, I was OUTRAGED when Trump said they "fell in love". And lets not forget how he defended little Kim, saying "he loves his people" and doesn't even know that these atrocities are being committed.
I believe it is being worked on- I think that both North and South Korea speak of unification.

Wow, it really hurt me watching her break down, even after serving and like she said giving her youth to serve the North Korean army, there was no one to help her. I hope she knows that there are still people who care for her

In a way it was a blessing that she was sick and got discharged from the Army and was able to defect at least she can have a better life now for her and her family.

I am an American and I feel your pain very deeply I have never served in any way although I wanted to, I've heard and have many family and friends who served and they would tell you in whatever way they perform is just as honorable as there's that's how American soldiers believe. From what I have been told. I can't speak for everyone but this is the overall General understanding. We As Americans believe we have a long way to go with our veterans and how they're treated I for one have nothing but the highest respect for anyone regardless of where they are and their military career and I'm extremely thankful to our military however or whatever they perform in the military capacity. My heart breaks for you for all the pain you have gone through in your life wishing you nothing but the best going forward sending much love from America

That judge is amazing for what he does. He takes into account the person situation. One lady even said she was guilty and he lowered the fine. Another time it was the kids father who did it and their mom came in saying she would pay, didn’t even know why she had court until she got there and the judge dismisses says he isn’t going to make her pay for something their father did

She touched my heart in a massive way! So sincere and yet it's heart breaking how unappreciated she has been, I actually made my daughter watch this in the hope that she could understand how lucky she has been to be born in the US, I can't thank you enough for sharing your story and all your heartbreak, you are an amazing woman who has such incredible strength! I agree. I've tried very hard to make my sons understand that simply by luck of birth they won the lottery over 95% of the world and are Americans. By virtue of their parents' hard work, they have never known instability or any true hardships. We work at food pantry and they go with me to donate their toys to a women's shelter and visit with their children. It's not much, but I want them to appreciate how they are blessed.

@@rianaconklin6954 I'm so glad resources were available when your family needed them! I always required my boys to give me the number of old toys to be replaced with new birthday or Christmas presents. At first, I would take the toys to a donation drop off. The boys resented seeing their toys just disappear, so it wasn't teaching them anything really. I finally realized they needed to physically see why they needed to let go of toys they rarely played with and others could enjoy. I'll never forget their first visit to the women's shelter. It was located in a not great area of downtown. The building and parking lot (the only outside play area) were surrounded by a fence topped with razor wire and you had to be buzzed into the building to maintain security. Overall the exterior had a very grim institutional feel. The shelter director took us on a tour of the facility. She showed my boys a small sparse bedroom where a mom slept with her 3 children. The common area playroom consisted of a few small toddler toys, one of those orange/yellow kiddie cars and a small tv. My boys already knew there were children from infant to 12 years old currently in residence. They wanted to know what the older children played with. The director told them the older ones pushed the younger ones in the kiddie car and watched cartoons on TV, from toddler to pre-school programs. My boys were shocked and couldn't unload their toys fast enough. When the kids from the shelter got home from school, my sons had an opportunity to talk to the ones close to their age. They talked about having to leave their homes, possessions and friends to make sure their moms and they were safe. It was a world my boys had no concept existed. Telling kids there are people with unmet needs and showing them those families truly impacted them. They voluntarily began putting toys, clothes, etc aside to take to the shelter quarterly. They bonded with the shelter children and worried when they moved on; either to a new start or back to the abusive husband, father, boyfriend. My children also learned every story doesn't have a happy ending but that doesn't mean you stop trying. I think we are all in this crazy world together. My goal is to hopefully send two compassionate, analytical, independent men into the world. You have a beautiful spirit. Keep touching people's hearts!!

While I am not Korean and can not thank you for your military service, I know you have been active with the US and other armed forces in an effort to show the world what people in North Korea. I would therefore like to thank you for your service as a humanitarian. we are all happy and thankful you escaped and can work to bring the gaze of the world to bear on the atrocities you and others have endured.
There are no words for me to explain how touching your videos have been. I do relate to all your reaction even though I am not part of the military. I do thank you for expressing what America has done for me. I love America because also gave me a sense of "existence"....being a single mother, Americans treated me with the outmost respect and understanding for the terrible situation I was in. In my country I was shunned. I felt just like you even if I did not know anything about Americans, only through movies. Thank you so much. You are thought of with love and compassion. :)

I hope all North Korean soldiers can see this video. Thank you for your service in helping us learn about your experiences and culture, and thank you for helping our North Korean brothers and sisters who are being held hostage by a tyrant with nuclear weapons. I hope freedom comes for them soon.

This broke my heart into a million pieces
I have watched these vids and been a sub for a few months now and all of them bring enlightened purpose to the views and opinions I have of NK. I served in S. Korea very near the DMZ for a year while in the Army. I have a unique respect for the country of SK its people and military. In that year I would hear of the despair, mistreatment, and malfeasance of the north towards its military and civilian population. Until I started watching these vids I never really knew or understood really how horrible they have it. Proud people the Koreans. Brave and human are the people of Korea. I just hope that one day soon the world can dissolve the region of the North and free the victims of that disgusting regeim. Much respect for this women and all of my brothers and sisters.

Even though this one veteran was treated nicely. There's still people in our US society that treat veterans with disrespect or hate the military in general. One of my grandfathers was a WWII, Vietnam, and Korean veteran.
Whoever disrespect's or hates any American soldier that served for this country is just an ignorant ass.

This has me in tears. It was hard when my late husband came back from Vietnam, people didn't respect soldiers as much then, but our experience was nothing like you have described. Please know that you are lifted up by good wishes and prayers from people in the US and around the world.

I am so sad that she had to go through that. I was crying watching her cry. All the horror she has had to witness and go through herself makes a person from the United States appreciate what we have. I think the kindest of people are the ones who have experienced pain and suffering. I think that she is a really kind-hearted person who has had to experience lots of pain and mistreatment, yet despite that pain and mistreatment, she has kept her humanity and survived. Sometimes we put too much value on physical strength, sometimes the hardest things to do in life are to survive the pain you've been dealt. I am really happy that she has more opportunities now, and I hope that she will experience many happy things in the future. I also hope that she is able to heal from her pain, I really hope the best for her.

I pray that one day very soon that the people of North Korea will find out the truth and over throw their government.
The trouble is, then what? It would become a humanitarian crisis unseen perhaps in human history. While their government is oppressing and even murdering them, it is also the only thing currently keeping them all fed and somewhat organized as a society. If you removed that, without something to immediately take its place, I fear that the consequences would be disastrous. Mass starvation, rioting, and a mass exodus from the country would be pretty much guaranteed. And I don't think that such refugees would appreciate the 'welcome' that they would receive from China, for instance, whose armed forces are already posted at the border of their 'ally', probably to gun down any waves of refugees trying to enter China, who would just be a burden upon their society. And if they fled to South Korea, while I believe that they would be treated far more humanely, I am still not optimistic about their prospects. Potentially millions of people would be flooding into a tiny, overpopulated country that is only currently so successful due to its high standards of education, healthcare, and international trade. Unskilled labor at that level would destroy the economy completely. Of course, many of the North Korean refugees would likely be sent to the artificial islands that Japan has been constructing precisely for such a scenario, but it simply wouldn't be enough. Let's also not forget the hurtles of cultural integration, and healthcare. The future is bleak for North Korea no matter what happens.
@@enderoctanus we would not of had a 1776 experience if we followed that logic. They are already starving and I believe many nations, including USA because we love building up nations at tax payer expense, would be better than what they have now. Keeping them stagnate is not ever going to help them. I am not sure if you are trying to troll but something must be done for these people. They literally have Concentration Camps for crying out loud. .
Your efforts and sacrifice is now being recognized and honored on a much larger scale now than previously possible. Your a courageous person.

I appreciate her honesty and openness and willingness to express emotions. It is hard to hear her talk about the horrible way she's been treated and the things she's had to endure, but it really illustrates just how desperate things are in NK. my grandfather was a veteran both in the Korean war and Vietnam war he died in 2011 and he told me always to be grateful of what little we
have because people less unfortunate than us have it nearly 10 times worse and we don't know hate and war never brings the world any closure

This one was hard to watch. I have so much respect for this woman, and I've never met her. If I were to ever get the chance however, I would just want to give her a huge hug. And a salute.

I am a U.S. Vet. I feel this womans pain. I understand we come from different countries and different values. But nonetheless we were soldiers. So from one vet to another. Be at peace. I respect your service and wish you a happy and fulfilling life. May the people of North Korea be free from the horrors of their everyday lives someday. Until then. Keep moving forward and pushing the boundaries. The West is waiting for great people.
For me even serving one moment should be honored! The fact that you stepped up and gave your youth to the services should be recognized with honor and celebration from all your country. Though you see some views of our recognition to our vets there needs to be so much more done. There are so many homeless and sick veterans that still need help. Our government and military should be doing all they can to help those that they sent to fight.
Your past does not define you. You did what you did to survive. You are one of if not the strongest woman to be on UA-cam. Your bravery and the strength you have is so insanely admirable. You are human. Thank you for being so brave to share your stories and your life with all of us. You are so strong and beautiful and an inspiration. We thank you.
I recommend for kids to see this they complain about little things and gen a soft but there are people like this who have it worse and still succeed so inspiring btw I’m 16
