"Those near and far wars." The man is a national treasure.
Damn right
Why national?
Yup. "Please let these star waaaars..." (pause and batting eyes) "....sta-a-a-a-a-yyy..." x-)
@@bobdavis4848 BEST PART!
@@MissLoriToYou And when he sings "please" before that, he is like grimacing in desperation. x-)
This sketch always cracks me up. You gotta love Nick Winters ....
" hey what about that nutty Star Wars bar "
you'd be surprised, I can be quite an a-hole at times
Walk down memory lane: I remember at work the next Monday after this was first broadcast everyone singing, "STAAAR WAAAAARS! Dadadada, STAAAR WAAARS!", and making up any kind of lyrics like he did.
I was just a kid but I still sing it because my dad used to sing it all the time lol
@@RossTrittipo Bwahahaha! Mine did too, brother! I feel your pain! It always cracked me up!! 😊
having flashbacks of my dad singing starwars in the shower..now i know where he got it from..lol!!
It's a bonafide classic. Part of our modern American comedy heritage! Thanks, Bill!
Back before 100 channels when everyone watched the top shows and could talk about them the next day.
Bill Murray still cracking me up over 40 yrs. later.
Everyone's raving about Nick's "Star Wars" closing out the set... but how about that opening theme from 20-0h-1?? What a killer start to the show!
Exactly my first thought!:-)
Very underrated. 👍
indeed. its "Also Sprach Zarathustra" by Richard Strauss (1896)
Topper
That 2001 made me per my pants. DAAAA! …..DAAAAA! ….. DAAAA! 😂
This cast could make anything funny. Incredible talents and writers. The early years of SNL were brilliant.
THE BEST
There were TONS of duds in the early seasons, too. It’s just selective memory that we only recall the funnier sketches.
@@YouCantUnhearThisfor sure, but my opinion still stands.
Brought to you by: The SNL Cocaine Days.
Wilbur Jenkins Facts!!!
LOL.. beat me to it. The "Powder Room", indeed... :D
Don't think they're not still doing blow these days, they just don't care about being funny first.
"six inches of powder"
Like those days could be over, lol!
Shows you how old I am. I remember watching this routine live!
Lol. Me too, watching with my Dad.
Me too...😞😞😞😁😁😁
I was born in 1969. And I would totally stay up to watch these instant classics Live!
"Nothing but Star Wars"
Disney: Yes
But...they put out the Marvel movies...and the Disney movies. Oh I get it. Sorry.
“I clapped I clapped cuz I know what he is talking about!”
This is literally the late '70s in a nutshell.
Bill Murray's love for karaoke has endured to this day.
Hysterical! I remember seeing this for the first time on Saturday night live. And it still hilarious. And yes every time I hear the theme from Star wars I can hear him singing it. So great
“Tasty lick, Paul” BEST LINE
Ah Star Wars, nothing but Star Wars, gimme more Star Wars, don't let them end!
Ah, Star Wars! If they should bar wars, please let these Star Wars stay.
And hey, how about that nutty Star Wars bar? Can you forgett all the creatures in there? And hey, Darth Vader in that black and evil mask - Did he scare you as much as he scared me? Star Wars, Those near and far wars, Star Wars!
Bill Murray’s the BEST😆
"And hey, how about that nutty star wars bar."
The 70s ROCK.😍😍😍
Love me some Murray 💛 6:41😂
Oh all the hidden innuendo's. The powder room, Dan nose telling him there would be good powder tomorrow.....cocaine is a hell of a drug lol. My absolute favorite SNL character.
No words necessary, just filled with laughter and joy
My dad always sings this version of the star wars theme to me. The lounge singer is his spirit animal. I swear.
My friend Danny's dad sings this version, too!!
@@YuukiTakemoto1996 ayyyy
That was so classic. Life would so suck if you had to do that job night after night😂
Wow they actually used to memorize their lines back then.
This never gets old.
Reminds me of a lounge singer my friend made me go see. He was about 90. He stopped mid song and announced “don’t worry this tiger still has a lot of gas in his tank”. I was worried.
That referred 2 a gasoline ad.
I live by Bill Murray's teachings. Finally they posted this gem.
Love This Song, I was 18, Fast Forward to 2023..Thank you To infinity and Beyond and Back..🎶🎹🥳🎹🎉🔥 Cast of Saturday Night Live.💪🏆
love you Bill Murray
My heart jumped when I saw Gilda Radner.
If there’s ever a new Star Wars movie I need this to be the opening.
I remember that skit from the 70's and randomly have sung it all my life. I had it taped with a tape recorder held up to the tv, I used to do that to SNL skits and listened to them the next day. Why can't we just go back?
swear to myself these guys are so funny, and gee, slightly cute also
I think we need a revival of this sketch sometime soon!
If it’s GOOD…
i watched these episodes as a kid and will never forget them. they were a cornerstone of comedy and my sense of humor. bill murray could just sit and read a book and i would laugh. i've been conditioned.
...those kooky star wars....
Star Wars!
Give me those Star Wars!
Nothing but Star Wars -
Don't let them end.
Ah, Star Wars!
If they should bar wars,
Please let these Star Wars stay!
And hey,
How about that nutty Star Wars bar?
Can you believe all the creatures in there?
And hey,
Darth Vader in that black and evil mask -
Did he scare you as much as he scared me?
Star Wars,
Those near and far wars,
Star Wars!
❤
Happy Birthday Bill Murray. Your awesome legend. Ghostbusters, Space Jam, Garfield, What About Bob, and Zombieland is seriously awesome, shit. Ghostbusters is awesome, I love Ghostbusters. I have faith, respect, and believe in the Ghostbusters. Wow, Bill... UR amazing man, and Star Wars is my first movie, all of them, seriously! May the Peace be with u Bill Murray. I hope people realize that it was Paul Schaffer of David Letterman playing the piano. He actually was on SNL a few times.
He was SNL before Letterman started.
Classic
I can't hear the Star Wars theme without thinking of this.
Is that Paul Shaffer on piano?
The constant blinking made me lose it lmao
Robert Klein as the German ski instructor
Holy shit, current members are NO WHERE NEAR as talented.
nowhere*
Really? I mean this bit is OK but I've never really loved it.
Keenan Thompson can hold his own, with any cast member from any era!
I would have loved to seen a Nick Winters and Tony Clifton show.
Someday when I grow up.... 2022 Philadelphia USA
I like when he did the stones Emotional Rescue!
"I just said that, because you will believe anything, and you are a pimp!" That's my new favorite insult.
This is one of favorite skits…..Bill Murray is truly excellent…..Phil Hartman as Bill Clinton in McDonalds is another…..
Back when cast actually memorized their lines rather than depend upon cue cards
@@StephenKershaw1 of course. Just look at that cast; Murray, Belushi, Ackroyd, Radner, Newman, special guest, Robert Klein! Paul Shaffer. It just doesn't get any better. Top tier talent, all around!
Back when the writing staff was smaller so they had more time to rehearse finalised sketches
Early SNL seasons had less sketches. More Music, Films, Muppets...
@Rory Van Kol im going to regret this, but wtf is that supposed to mean
It looked like Bill had to prompt Robert Klein.
That mustache is fantastic
"If they should bar wars...please let these star wars...Stayyyyy..."
Damn, Bill Murray can sing!
Amazzzzing. Billy
Appreciate the throwbacks. Any way we can get Kevin nealon’s “bathroom attendant”?
A classic!
The one with Harvey Keitel as a guest host was funny. Kevin asked if he "wanted to drop anchor" 😂
I remember the first time I ever saw powder snow, when I was in the Navy, stationed far from my home in Oregon. There it was, blowing about like desert sand, just like in the movies . . . .
terrific idea for a regular character on SNL :) :)
Gotta love Bill Murray!
Brings back memories 0:37
The Star Wars song might be the greatest song ever written.
The iconic Nick Winters .... but also there is Nick Summers ... not to forget Nick Falls ... and then there is the great Nick Springs !!
Bill can sing btw. What a great voice and awesome show host.
Bill Murray's lounge singer totally influenced my comedic personality
HELL YEAH!!!!! Give me Bill Murray singing over American Idol any day. "STAR WARRRSSSSS"
I'm not sure why but his singing scared my cats enough that they ran into the next room. lol
Paul Schaefer on the piano, folks!!
Did he scare you
As much he scared mmmmeeeeeeee???
Yes. Yes He Did.
You'll never be a tweaked and goggled Paul Shaffer backing up Bill Murray as he sings Star Wars.
"You know, they're actually hazels"
I've never seen this sketch and yet I've sang the Star Wars intro like that so many times 😮
Y'know, he kinda nails it.
Ahhhhhhh. The Twee Tenor.
That cast is huge lol
haunting rendition of 'don't it make my brown eyes blue'
Simply the best
Only Bill Murray could have done this
Welcome to The powder room!!😂
Stairway Nick..STAIRWAY!!
love Bill Murry golf clothing.
Mister Paul Shaffer on Keyboards and Mister Bill Murray, Singing The Theme from Star Wars
GENIUS!
Who’s a powder animal??
EVERYBODY, alright!!
Nick at nite gold
I think Murray was the first non-original cast member to join SNL. I may be wrong.
Definitely the first non-original that became a long-term cast member.
@@jedijones Joined in 1977 and lasted 3 seasons.
5:53 is what you came for... 😎👍
Gilda Radner. Those were the days on Saturday Night Live...
There are two actors that in my eyes can do no wrong... Bill Murray and Christopher Walken!
What a god damn legend
Nick and Tony Clifton should have done a duet
Smarmy brilliance.
Is that Paul Schaffer on the piano?
Duhh
Mark Johnson unfortunately
Yup
@Jim McCracken thin hair.
The german guy is hilarious!
Paul with the tasty licks 🎹🎼🎵
True comedy
And a young Paul Schaffer!
What ever happened to great lounge singers like this? :>)
I'm righ hurr....I'mma lounge whisltler tho.....
They're all in rehab.
The best
Alright church serves mixed drinks#1
Star Wars was a baby at this point, only 1 year old
Paul Schaffer on the Piano!
The pianists looks like a fly.
Bill Murray could have done a great Burt Reynolds
