Unfortunately a lot of critique in the comments focused on non bonsai matters which is a shame, no one is perfect! I loved the video, a lot of amazing trees Peter. Must be a very busy time of the year when it comes to repotting. A lot of knowledge and experience between you and Kevin. I love the junipers, always been a favourite of mine even if they take ages to wire.
Lovely episode. Terrific having Kevin (and Chrissy) there. So much knowledge between the 3 of you and a joy to listen in. Wonderful. Some of the detractors fail to hear the wisdom of one of Europe's finest ever bonsai artists and are just missing out. Kevin is phenomenal. Like the trees we purport to love and admire value the insight, difference and individuality he brings. Hang up your hang ups x
Thanks Peter, one of my favourite videos yet. My ficus got nailed by the frost a month back (my fault), all the leaves turned black and dropped as well as the tips of lots of branches/stems.. and seeing you guys repot those trees and talk about root health inspired me to have a closer look at the roots of it. Long story short, I've cleaned it up as best I could after gently removing the obviously dead roots and given it a new home. There was a decent amount of healthy root left so I'll cross my fingers now and wait.
That JBP is going to be amazing once it gets healthy and you start cutting the candles, I have some small JRP that I have been cutting candles for 2 years and they have the most amazing thin dark green needles, maybe only 1 inch long, I'm torn between my JBP and JRP, I hope someday in the future when I am gone, someone will be showing one of my trees care like this. Also great you have Kevin there to help, so many great trees you don't want any mistakes.
When i first watched Kevin with the power tools a while back i was 😳 it reminded me of the first time i watched Peter with the Lopers lol… but just like Peter Kevins always dropping gems of info, this was a great episode, repot videos are my favorite and i learned a lot between the two of you :) thank you for the years of videos :) I’ve been watching on and off for maybe 5 years + 🙏🏽
Hi. I like the look of how Kevin's dibber worked. No cross handle and 'bonsai' sized. I have looked on the net but couldn't find it. Can you share the name or link?
Nice video, and trees. That huge black pine with so Big nebari IS amazing. I have a question, about repoting pines, did you reduce the amount of Green parte since you are cutting some quantity of roots? Tx.
Great trees, the re potting season is the best time of year as you actually get to grips with the trees again. What is that tool Kevin was using? i can't find anything like it online.
Hello Peter from Australia - I wanted to ask you if you have tried using Cussonia specimens to make bonsai? I’ve just been watching a video about Cussonia’s from a specialist Australian nursery in the state of Victoria - and they have some beautiful and ENORMOUS bonsai’s
It feels like Kevin is the kind of bloke who can repot your bonsai and take care of someone who is "a nuisance", using the same tool for both jobs. You know what I mean?
It is a dibber what some people use to make holes in soil/compost before placing a cutting or large seed in. To be honest a pen or plant stick is better for most cuttings.@@louisanow
@@judlpd I've never listened to it as I was born in 1971 , I think Ian and the Blockheads made some of the finest funk to come out of Britain, thanks for the heads up , Sweet Gene Vincent first on the list
Excellent video as always ! Any chance of getting one of those potting tools Kevin was using ? By the way, the next time you speak to Kevin please remind him that his website email address and phone number do not work.
He's really good at what he does though. I have misophonia so I struggle with repetitive sounds. I did play a little game watching him this time and tried to count the yeahs. I made it to 202 but I think I missed a couple. It made it more bearable and I enjoyed watching what they were doing.
You should pull the black pine back out and cut back to a root ball,, to remove all the damaged roots from the Pick and forks,, poking pine roots with metal forks and pick is akin to a greentree break,,they should be cut and their is no water course cut between the roots of the nebari to allow water to get to the centre of the tree in the pot, and he's also using the wrong technique with the chopsticks yeah, yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah........... yeah
How wonderful to have Kevin's expertise.

Perfect video for a Sunday morning with a cup of coffee.
Please provide a styling update on that beautiful black pine in the future!
Really enjoyed watching the video on a Sunday !! Always lots to learn from you
It's always great to hear Kevin's knowledge ✌️

Nice way to start my Sunday morning 😊
Thx for sharing Peter 😊
Peter, where can I find one of the tools that Kevin is using? Great video! I enjoyed seeing the progress of the trees over the years.
Nice work 🙏 but I would have potted that old famous juniper, that we saw in the book, more upright, exactly like it has been in the past.

Yeah.
Most leaves stayed on my trees this winter. We got down to 38°f but the ground was still warm. Florida.
wow, i wasn't aware that there is a copy of your book in italian!
Nice tree ❤❤
Hi
Kevin’s single root rake that looks like a screwdriver is a really good idea where can you purchase one?
Peter and Kevin are sutch a great duo seing them work and also talk about bonsai is always a great lesson👍👍💪

Peter, when these large bonsai like the black pine are first styled is it using the 'S' shape technique when young?
Definately the drum!
Peter you ask Kevin a question and as soon as he starts talking you talk over him. Kevin is one of the best.
He might know his stuff but saying ‘yeah’ every five words makes him impossible to listen to.
"you need a PHD in candle plucking." I have never related so much to a statement about plant pruning.
Godmorning from Sweden🌳😍

Thanks for this interesting video. Please can anyone inform where you can purchase those trays with the open mesh sides and base?

Agreed, I need to get one also!

What is the name of the tool Kevin is using? Fantastic!
I’d like to know as well, thanks.
I heard Kevin call it a dibble while he used it for the last tree.
@@louisanow . Thanks. Just ordered one on Amazon. 👍🏻

So many neglected trees nice to see someone who knows what they are doing .doing the repoting

great Ian Jury reference from Kevin "new boots and panties" (its an album name for our overseas viewers!)
How do you make the nameplates
They are from Wisley I expect

Don’t listen to any of us here, Kevin. You do you dude.
Good Kevin was there!

Yea, yea, yea, yea, this has everything to do with bonsai

This pine has been with me forty years and was imported to the UK in 1962 - its still in the pink of health.
Pinus thunbergii are tough.
It's not the point Mr chan,, it's not going to live much more being treated like that,,top Japanese masters tell you to cut the root
@@darrenharber6711 telling Peter Chan how to do bonsai in a YT comment section...wow the arrogance...

Kevin must be a yogi of bonsai. Even you peter ask him of his accumulated knowledge. 👍🇦🇺🦘
