Impressive! your knowledge of music theory, technique, and artistry really come through. Besides improving my appreciation of your performance, I think this kind of exercise deepens understanding of jazz music. Thanks!
Great method! The "chord simulation" is an excellent idea! Except for that, I will apply it not only to the harmonica but also to my clarinet and flute 😀🎶
Really masterful tight playing, so much feel and phrasing in even the root notes choruses, best lesson on the perfect song in chromatic history! Yeah, I liked it.
Thank You Filip🤗This way of practicing a standard sounds great and makes sense for me. I‘ll give it a shot. Thanks man. You are a great one. I❤️your music
👁️ Thanks, Filip. Great lesson. First the Melody / Scales on each chord / After the Bass / Mix Bass with chords - In the final: mixing all (Improvisation). Congrats from Brazil, man! 🇧🇷
My biggest takeaway from this vid after many watches has been the great sound and rhythm that can be achieved with well timed simple notes. But that’s certainly because I’m certainly a beginner.
I really try to learn English very hard to understand your nice lesson!! This video is so helpful and has very wonderful tone of sound. Thank you so much sir😁😁
Stort stort tack Filip! Har pysslat med det kromatiska munspelet i 5år och måste säga att jag lärde mig massor av denna video. Allt gott! Hälsningar från Hässleholm
Thanks, Filip. The big takeaway, for me, is the systematic approach to gradually working all aspects of the piece into your head, so that when it comes to working up a solo, you have a diverse repertoire to work with and feature what the harmonica does well.
On the chord illusion the 16 holes come handy. Nicer range. It is a good exercice but also impro too actually. I need to work on this it is a great idea
Thanks, happy you like it! All of Me is a great jazz tune in so many ways. It contains many basic functions of jazz harmony, so if you can play over it - you can easily play on 20 others songs. I put it in Ab major to get as many "illusion chords" as possible. It is mostly played in C or Bb major on jam sessions.
@@FilipJersMusic yeah, i was learning it in C, though I was transposing into the different patterns on my Dimi, too. Am going to try these exercises and see what I can do!
when you say you play it in the key of A, does that mean that Chromatic harmonica came in A and not in C? or does that mean you play from the key of A on a C keyed harmonica? I am always confused to this when players say they play in some key.. how can I tell if they chromatic harmonica they play on is in C, A, Bb or what not when listening? and does it matter a lot to choose a chromatic harmonica in C and not in Bb for example that you play most of your songs on?? thanks for anyone that can explain this to a beginner" :))
Filip, I'm a poet and I'm a fan of your channel. I recently bought a SCX-48 (in F of all keys) and I play by ear. I don't know how to read music (not really) but I love the jazzy melodies you share. They're just enough for me to try a version of them, and enjoy learning, feeling out the instrument. I do want to learn more, like when you talk about chord tones, and maybe at some point I'll delve into that. For now thanks.
All of Filip! I'm waiting for my new super duper Brendan Powers powerbend diatonic to come. When I get it, I'll try this tune, but don't know if it'll fly. Good practice tip, regarding the metronome.
@@FilipJersMusic Ja, jag fattar inte varför man skriver på engelska. Men det är ju youtube. Jag hör att du okså är skåning när du räknar inn...one..two...tre...fyra !
WOW!!! I first wanted to write "YOU SHOW OFF"!!! But how disrespectful that is to say after the WEALTH of information you just shared with us to help US along our way to mastering this very difficult instrument which many here are DRAUGH to play!!! THANKS If I get on sectiong DOWN I'll call it a WIN!!!
Within the first minute you share you thoughts on tempo. Thank you. I'm working on playing at higher tempos. It seems at lower tempos I've no trouble burning through the changes but when the tempo increases I feel stuck. I've found counting the one on each bar and not playing every 8th through the entire tune helps as well. Pacing yourself as it were. I really like the idea of focusing on the 2 and 4. Going to give that a try. Going to try 184 as well. Thank you for your insight!
Thanks! Higher tempos can take time. For just jamming through and studying a song, I like 160, meaning have the click on 80, use 2 & 4 method. Some more tips: 1.Set a high tempo, notice at which bpm you fall off. Set a goal bpm. 2. Increase the bpm max 4-5 bpms per week. 3. Listen to a lot of jazz tunes played in a high tempo, get that sound in your head. 4. Focus on having the metronome on 2 and 4. For me that has been the key.

Fantastic advices. Helpful for any other instrument as well. I immediately posted your lesson to a friend who plays violin.
Awesome! Thank you!
Excellent advice, not only for jazz chromatic harmonica players but for all instruments and genres, good work Sir!
Many thanks!
Playing the arpeggio in a continous way was new to me. I`ll try that out.
Cool, happy to inspire!

Congrats from Brazil, man! 🇧🇷
Love the chord playing idea. I’ve done this but not consistently as a practice step. I will now!
Thanks Matt! Yes, it is fun and good to do. Some keys works better than others. I think Ab, G, Eb and F are my favourites for accompaniment.

Can we please talk about 5:11 :D
Haha... Too much coffee.
It's really well played ! Could I ask you what technique you used for the vibrato? is it the same for low and high notes ? Have a nice day
Can you please show us what holes to play the notes in
Golden!
Thanks Richard!
Wonderfull!!!
Many thanks!!
it would be nice if you wrote the holes for the chord tones
Nice. You can walk the bass with your sirius b48. It will rock! And play the chords with the bbch48. Voila. You ve go a chromatic harp trio😁
Thanks! Haha, yes that is true!
Are there any versions of "all of me" in Ab that you know I can use to learn the song by ear?
Check for Lee Konitz.
I choosed Ab too for the chords lay out really good.
Hi Filip! What is the key of your harmonica? What harmonicas keys do you use?
It is a C chromatic. I use that key when playing jazz. When playing folk music, I use other keyed chromatics like G, D, A and E.
Hey, it would be nice to have timestamps of all the relevant sections. Otherwise very useful video for beginners like me. Thanks a lot for making it!
Good idea, will try!

Which harmonica model is this? Is it a Suzuki Fabulous?
Hi! It is a Suzuki Sirius 64
I thought my rhythmic variations were do to my lack of skill. Now I find out I'm a virtuoso. Lol.
what merk of your harmonica?
Brand? Suzuki.
@ thanks
Your lips are dancing.
Haha yes!
