Elvis back then was like current day, rap artists, etc with the bling and over the top clothes, the Cadillacs. He was called to service at the height of his success, and he never tried to get out of going into the army as as well while he was in there, he didn’t want to be treated any different. There were times they wanted him to perform, and he refused to.

…Elvis was the FIRST and BEST! ...No singer was and is as famous as Elvis and has been for almost 70 years!! He has everything a singer needs: VOICE, GOOD LOOKS, SEXY, HUMOR... and above all an incredible CHARISMA!! ... He is still unsurpassed today and a singer for eternity!! ✨💎✨🕺🏻🕯 Thank you

Elvis was never in prison but his father was. Also Elvis served in Army for 2 years . He went in at the height of his career . It was that or be drafted! The Korean War was over by then so no war , he served in Germany. His mom passed away while he was stationed in Germany. Elvis was very close to his mother, when she passed he was devastated.

His father went to jail for changing the amount from $4 to $14. His mother gave birth to twins. Elvis's twin brother was still born. You have a few facts wrong. He was drafted. When he was doing his basic training in the U.S. in Texas for a 6 month period is when his mother died.

He was drafted into the army. He could’ve gone into the entertainment division, but he went where they sent him - tanks in Germany. 1958-1960. He was BIG in Germany. I was in Munich when he died and the newspaper headlines were probably 8 inches big and the people were subdued.

A great reaction to a brilliant Elvis performance. He felt the song. His mother did not die giving him life, but his twin brother died at birth. His mother died as he was sent to the army and he was greatly affected. He had also been through a
divorce, with his wife taking his daughter to live with her.

This Song was not Specifically about his Life but there were some Parallels that he could relate to. At the time Elvis sang this in 1973 at the age of 38, Elvis's wife Priscilla had left him for another man and took his little Girl with her and they were going through a divorce. She just wanted a normal life but that wasn't possible with somebody as famous as Elvis.
Elvis usually looked for songs he could relate to in some way, he also had friends that knew what was going on in his life and wrote songs for him to sing.

He changed the world. I was around for much of it. He stayed around and number one for so long that he just became family. We loved him. We prayed for
Him. We knew EVERYTHING about him and everyone around him. Ever. You have no idea. He was on the news more than the president. Multiple times a day.
No internet and stuff. I still contend that television was made for/by Elvis so the world could move forward.

If you like someone who bleeds when they sing, there is always truth to Elvis singing. In the Ghetto is a story of him growing up in the Ghetto and how poor he was. He lived in a black neighborhood and with friends from there. There is always truth to Elvis’s songs. You just have to know his history and you’ll get it immediately. Thank you. He many times was a storyteller as he sang with something he went through or close to it himself. That’s why he’d grab onto your soul till you cried at times. He had that cry voice that sounded like he cried and sang at the same time which put forth so much emotion from him. 😊❤❤

Elvis was not a song writer, so this is not autobiographical. A song may speak to him, but it is not about him. Marty Robbins, a country singer, wrote this song in the 1960s. Elvis took songs and arranged them to make them his own. He sings this very powerfully.
Elvis was drafted in 1958. He received his summons and reported for duty as required. He never was threatened with jail as he did exactly as required.
Elvis was 38 when he performed the Aloha from Hawaii concert. It’s hard to believe he would be dead 4 years later.
    Songs to consider:
    Steamroller Blues
    Kentucky Rain
You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me
    If I Can Dream
    Burning Love
    American Triology
    My Way
Suspicious Minds- Live Las Vegas version
The live performances will always be the best to react to.

BRO, Always look forward to your reactions!
ELVIS did not go to jail or prison. But if many people actually would have had the chance, they would have.
There is a 2-Part documentary called "Elvis Presley and The Black Community, That Echo Will Never Die" Part 1 & 2, that will give you a better idea how many older conservative people viewed him and his music.
Just home from the military, there is an older video of his appearance on "The Frank Sinatra Show", an early black & white television performance of ELVIS performing two song's, and a duet with "Ole Blue Eyes" himself, Frank Sinatra.
    THANK YOU!

As others said Elvis never went to jail or prison. His mother died while he was voluntarily serving in the army from '58-'60. His twin brother died at birth or was stillborn though. Priscilla did take his daughter (not son) away from him in a sense when they divorced although they still spent time together when Elvis wasn't touring.

Elvis had had to climb many hills & mountains by 1973 when he did this live concert, & his divorce had just gone through 2 weeks before he did this concert. Elvis was not only an amazing singer with a unique voice, but he was the most wonderful storyteller, because he put so much passion & emotion into every song he sang. After finishing his contract as an actor, which had frustrated & bored him because he had wanted serious movies to star in, not the frilly girly movies he was put in, he said he would never sing another song he did not believe in or that didn’t have a message.

Jane H commenting …. Elvis was happy to go into the army when he was drafted, even though it was at the height of his early career … & he never went to prison. His father did 8 months in prison, after forging a cheque to feed his family. He served his country in post-war Germany, & he never sought special attention, even though he was a superstar, & he was only 22 years old. The army used him to promote the army, but the only thing he did was to rent a house off-base for his father & a couple of his bodyguards, who were also friends of his. His mother very sadly died when he was first drafted into the army. She had a heart attack at 46 years old. He loved his mother very much & was grief-stricken over losing her. He was in a tank division in the army.

I advise you to do research instead of taking what people in the comments say. They're clueless at times and spread false information. Elvis never went to prison, ever! They threatened to arrest him for his moves onstage in the 50s but he was too powerful and they feared riots from the youth. This song is a cover of a country song by Marty Robins. Elvis felt the lyrics and message and included it into his live show. Elvis lost his mother while he was in tge military and his wife Pri$cilla took his only daughter) Lisa from him. So he could relate to the words.

Elvis never had a son. He had a daughter, Lisa Marie who very sadly passed away last year (2023) at the age of 54. Lisa was his pride & joy, & his wife took her to California to live with her boyfriend, but I believe Lisa spent quite a bit of time with her beloved daddy. She was just 9 years old when Elvis passed at the age of 42. Elvis was 38 when he did this concert. At the 68 Comeback Special, he was 33, so he is 5 years older when he did this concert, & from 1974 his health began to decline, until his death in 1977.

Elvis’s father went to jail for changing a $4 check to a $14 check. Elvis and his mom lived in the projects in Memphis during this time. Elvis bought lots and lots of jewelry and gave a lot of it away. He gave away almost 200 Cadillacs too. Watch Elvis, King Of Kindness.
I think he sang this song after Priscilla divorced him and took their little girl, Lisa Marie, with her.

OMG.. i just heard you say that Elvis went to prison for dodging the draft... Sorry that never happened.. Elvis was drafted and he served his time between (I think)1959 and 1961.. truly not sure about those dates but I am sure Elvis was not a draft dodger... He served, like my Daddy did.. not war time.. but they served.
