Great idea! You can cover those lines on the cardboard by using a craft paper and collage paste. That will give a smoother surface. Alternative: use single layer cardboard, like many grocery items use for packaging, glue that over the corrugated. A double layer of corrugated cardboard is quite stiff and would make the part with the lights stronger. I find that working with recycled cardboard requires experimentation. Don't give up if your first attempt doesn't please you. Finding fun, useful ways to keep stuff out of garbage dumps and improving our lives at the same time. I'm inspired to make something similar now!

Very nice idea as one suggestion, for the background board to cover the lights in the middle, try using a hollowed out plastic container that is like pencil sized storage and glue together as would be more sturdy. As for lights you can also make holes in your board for the LED lights to sparkle through each area and more fancy. Or try a fancy glass over each area to further give depth to the piece. You're welcome from one artist to another respectively
I would use different lights so the hue matches the gold but I love it!! Lines and all lol.

I bet if you sprayed it with a textured paint (like stone finish) you wouldn't be able to see the corrogated lines of the cardboard at all. It came out great!
