    Wilt is the greatest athlete in modern times.. stronger than Shaq- better scorer than Jordan- and more athletic than LeBron. Physically in a class by himself. He would dominate in today's game just as he did in his day.

      Why don’t they In this Era give him the credit he deserves.
      I have him number 2 to MJ
      And the Argument can be made he’s number 1 GOAT
      He’s definitely the greatest physical Specimen in Modern times. Last 100 years.

      @@melvinstapleton6133 Classy, respectful comment. I have Wilt at number one, for the, more than outstanding rebounding, and shot blocking, and the assists, plus the scoring, in his scoring heyday. Not trying to argue, and I respect anybody's valid choice for their GOAT, as long as respect, like in your comment, is shown for my choice. Thanks.

      I agree! He was an extraordinary athlete. Some of the stories about the various things he did were unbelievable. He could palm a bowling ball without putting his fingers in the holes. High jumping close to 7' using the scissors kick, triple jump, shot put, etc. He would have been the leading scorer if he had played as long as Kareem. Never fouling out of a game, dunking from the foul line, breaking a players foot after dunking, and the ball hit the opponents foot. Wilt was probably related to Hercules. I did here that he had a house on Mt. Olympus and use to have dinner with Zeus. G.O.A.T. 1. Wilt, 2. Jabbar, 3. Jordan, 4. Lebron, 5. Kobe. Remember, many rules of the game were changed because of Wilton Norman Chamberlain.

      nomibe2911 I mean, its hard to back that statement with facts, I suppose we don’t know how competitive it was, but like any game, there definitely was, and still is, competition, and competitiveness always follows. I would say the 80’s/90’s was the height of competitiveness, with a lot of rules trying to be implemented into the game to stop so much of the physicality that thrived off of the overly competitive spirit. You would get deliberate elbows flying into skulls, faces, necks, chests, anywhere it would really rattle someones cage. Just because you didn’t want to give up easy shots. Fair enough but the dirty actions weren’t necessary, unless you wanted to win.
      Pride, Competitiveness, you can never say there wasn’t any competitiveness, but I honestly think the 60’s were not AS competitive.

      When Wilt was angry, he took over games completely. For example, Kareem pissed off Wilt for what Wilt felt was a cheap shot to his teammate Happy Hairston under the basket while Hairston lay on the floor - Wilt was super pissed and a ref had to step between Wilt and Kareem. Wilt was essentially playing on one good knee after a nasty knee cap injury sustained in '69 but he still took over the game in the 4th and dominated Kareem. The Lakers won that game, the playoff series, and Wilt went on to be the finals MVP, leading the Lakers to the chip. True story.

    Wilt bodies Gus Johnson out of the way at 2:02 for a layup, tries to dunk the ball onto Gus's head at 6:06, and then throws Gus off of the court at 6:48.
    That's the same Gus Johnson that had his shoulder dislocated by Wilt when he tried to dunk on Chamberlain a couple years earlier. He had showed Wilt up on a slam. When he tried to do it a 2nd time, Wilt blocked the dunk by palming it and then ramming it right back into Johnson. Clean block. Wilt still palming the ball as they carried Gus off on a stretcher. Only man ever to have his shoulder dislocated on a blocked dunk attempt.
    When Johnson got out of the hospital, he was asked if he'd try it again? He said absolutely! When Wilt got word of Johnson's comment, he said, "tell him I said that's a good way to lose an arm".

    Wilt had no offensive game from what I am studying here. Very little variety and he barely scored. Every time he got the ball in the post he passed🤦🏻🤷🏻 I thought he was this “force” and why is nobody dunking 🤷🏻

      @WiltChamberlainArchive  Рік тому +2

      Why would you pick a game that he scores 4 points to figure out his offensive game? He only even attempted 4 shots the entire game. He was trying to defend and let guys like Elgin and Caldwell get hot. A strategy he leaned on more and more in his Lakers years as he tried to adjust to playing with a forward that needed the lane to stay open (so he had to stay out of the post more than he ever did on his Warriors and Sixers teams). He also had nothing to prove as far as scoring goes, he had every record. He was trying alternative ways of playing that might or might not lead to more team wins. It paid off because he got another ring in 72 playing this way you see him doing in this game for most of that season.

    Wilt stands out as a giant but you also have to consider the level of other so called all stars. A bunch of guys playing YMCA ball just bricking everything, even a simple jumpers and no wonder you have guys avg 30 rpg, when they shoot below 40%. Oh and there were like 9 teams in the league and 2 all-star teams so pretty much any decent players were an all star.

    • @WiltChamberlainArchive
      @WiltChamberlainArchive  4 роки тому +8

      That's not how I'd sum up his peers, they were all-time greats themselves. These specific clips are highlighting Wilt's production in the game including his rebounds, so of course we will be seeing other players miss. That's how he got his rebounds. They made a lot of great shots too.

    • @pyeuneu
      @pyeuneu 4 роки тому +1

      @@WiltChamberlainArchive I think it was a different game altogether, and there were a lot of better athletes that never got a chance to play in those days. But as you might know, in the 60's, the game avg'd 110 plus shots plus game and players shot aorund 40%, except those few special players like Wilt. On the other hand, Wilt was probably avg'ing close to 10 blocks in his prime. I had a lot of respoect for Russel and Wilt simply by reading their careers and stories, but to be honest after watching archieves, basketball before 70's too different to compare to modern day basketball. You throw a player like Shaq in the middle of that, he can do things that wilt did easily and possibly more. Wilt was one of his inspiration no doubt thorugh. Thanks for the video.

    • @jongib369

      Where did you get that they shot below 40%? 1967 the year Wilt won a championship the league average was .441, while in 1997 it was .455.. Sure he got more rebounds due to pace, but even with stats adjusted that aren't 100% accurate have him as putting up elite numbers today.
      You really need to do more research, players from that era are much better than you realize. And less teams wasn't a good thing, the season would be much more hectic today if the top players faced each other 8 times in a regular season.

      If Wilt were playing today, I'm certain he would neutralize the three point shooting on which so many teams rely.
      Watch the vids in slo-mo of him blocking. Most of them were short range and he'd jump up just as the shot was released and still get the block. Threes take a lot longer to get to the basket so he'd be able to just position himself near the basket and either catch the ball or block it. And being the smart player he was, never goal tend.
