I was a 15 year old kid growing up in Chicago watching this. The city was starved for a winner and there were some tears in the house at that time. God bless the late Al McGuire was genuinely moved to tears for his old friend on TV. My dad told me Coach Meyer would always come around the CYO leagues looking for recruits. Meyer was a fine gentleman and a great coach. RIP Coach.
Man this brings back so many memories for me!!! I love DePaul ... Ray Meyer was a very good man!! In those’s days they had a consolation game and DePaul beat that team pretty good!!!!! WE ARE DE- Paul
I was at the game in Provo. Forgotten in all this was the halftime incident involving UCLA's players and band and a performing BYU dance troupe. Till then DePaul played in front of home crowds of 4000 or so. The incident turned the Marriott Center into a home crowd of 13000 for DePaul. BYU helped carry those guys thru a tough second half. Meyer liked Provo so much he wanted to stay there the next week for the final 4 in SLC, but the NCAA wouldn't let him.
Between 1979 and 1982, DePaul should have been to the FF 2 or 3 times. Sadly, after 1979, the teams in 1980, 1981 and 1982 - all top ranked went down in the first round of the NCAA Tourney.

What wonderful memories! I saw many of those games in person at the age of 5. My father was a professor at DePaul.
This is all so pure😌

Aguirre was sooo good. Five man team back then.

That was the only winner Chicago had back in those days...What a great team...
Ernesto Macias Also the Chicago Sting. Sox, Bulls, Cubs, Sox were all awful.
🏀 Thank You!
Ray Meyer....a fine, fine man.
Not getting Isiah Thomas really curtailed DePaul’s fortunes.
Davan Mani not really the reason they lost in the NCAA’s in 80-82 was not because they didn’t land Isiah
True but I think his family wanted him out of the inner city. IU and Bobby Knight was a different world altogether
That could have been the difference in those early 80s chokejobs 😓
Ben Wilson I think curtailed it. What if he wasn’t shot and killed.
Benard Randolph also from Westinghouse
