I’m a new mom and I have a year old Cane Corso who comes to me when my 3 week old is crying in the other room! 😂 We still take him out for daily walks but he’s learned to keep himself busy ever since the baby came home with us.
Well I don’t think I’m any of these lol but I have a Pomeranian, a mini Aussie and a boxer/mastiff mix lol they each have their own unique and awesome qualities. I am a mom who alone a lot though and when my boxer boy passed away recently I felt very vulnerable all of a sudden not to mention the horrible deep sadness that overcame me for some time. I just rescued this mastiff boxer mix and he’s is absolutely amazing. He is a big dog but he is the sweetest boy in the world. He loves my daughter so much he already is sleeping with her at night and he hasn’t even been here a week. He fit right in and lives the other dogs as well. I had so many people tell me I may not want a mastiff breed and I don’t know why because he’s truly a sweetheart and very very smart and playful.
I am a woman who has rescued a Bullmastiff, a Boerboel, a Cane Corso and a Presa over the past six years. My husband and I have no children, but we figured we could help the big dogs that are at risk of not being adopted. So we started. I love your suggestions but your channel helped me soooooooo much when I was first learning about the various breeds. Thank you very much for having your channel.
I liked your german pinscher sugestion, never thought about them. As i prefer larger dogs, but will probably live in apartments for a good time, a medium sized protection dog might be a good idea.
The German Pinscher doesn't just look like a smaller Doberman Pinscher, it's actually one of the founding breeds for the Doberman so they share a lot of their characteristics. What you get is essentially a mid-sized dog that thinks it's a Doberman Pinscher.
I’m not a single mom but my husband works on the road for about 10 months of the year so you could say I am. I just got my Rottie pup today. Her name is MaJi and I’m already in love!
I'm a new mom with a boxer mix, she's getting on in age (dog will be 8 in april) but she is wonderful with our 9 m/o baby girl. We think she's mixed with shepherd and maybe a pointer. She's patient, aware of her size and strength, and wonderfully protective of her baby sister. Many people in my family were worried she would get jealous but she has adjusted so well and understands her place in our family pack. She loves kisses, hugs, and pats from baby and always wants to be near her. Dogs are the best addition to any family, you just have to find one that works for you and your lifestyle. Thanks for such a great series, can't wait to see what you have next.
I am a frisbee player and I love my Australian Cattle Dog mix. She is loyal, velcro (She ignores other people and animals and sticks to me), trainable, quiet, and always keeps me in her sight whether I’m gardening, playing frisbee, or cooking (of course)
I love rotties too! I got my first one when I was 15 and he lived to be 17 years old. He was my baby and went everywhere with me. I trained him myself and he was the smartest darn dog I have ever had. I had to put him to sleep due to cancer about 2 months after he turned 17. I have also had a bully and a OFRN pit bull but still think the rottie is the best dog ever. I am glad I subscribed to your chancel, you make great content.
Loved this video! Mom here with 3 kids (6 months-8years) and a boyfriend but he we work opposite schedules so I am home alone a big chunk of the day, we got 2 Rottie puppies within the last 2 months and I am LOVING them so far... they adore the kids especially the baby but already bark at strangers and weird noises as well!
@@Mollydollyyyy oh thank you for that information...I've been eyeing rotts for a while. I have a almost perfect Pitt...he's a total prize but a major puller. Was getting a little discouraged about ever owning a rott (bigger and stronger) but that info was very encouraging. Perhaps it's a case by case basis. 😊
@@inputname2727 He never pulled, even as a puppy. They're really attentive and happy to follow commands. I can even say "stop" and he'll stop! I'm not a great dog trainer and honestly he's 2 years old and still sucks at things like "drop it," haha so really he's great on the leash all things considered.
Idk if I agree about the golden. Yes they are trainable but they are a retriever, meaning it has higher maintenance in terms of energy expenditure. A bullmastiff will lay around all day, if you don’t get out to throw a ball with a retriever or for a long walk they will start getting destructive, a busy mom won’t have time to go for a walk, unless she wants to exercise with the dog for 30 mins at least
Great video idea. We had a golden retriever when our kids were young. Not a very smart dog, but she had a big heart and was wonderful with kids. Also very low maintenance, easy to train.
I have two. Rottweiler/Beagle he is loyal quiet and very kind. Although he is beagle sized he follows rottweiler traits. I also have a rottweiler/staffy mix she is so laid back, sweet and a pleasure to train. Both dogs are sweet and gentle with my son.
I’m a mom of 8 kiddos and I’ve had lots of dogs over the years. Small breeds have not been tolerant of small children so we have avoided those. We have a Rottweiler now. Tolerant of children in the family but will bark at the kids friends and has to go out. Also have to make sure toddlers (especially late 2 to 3 year olds) are nice to the dog! Best to supervise the kids well with dogs at that age!
Can you please include the caveat that even these "good with kids" breeds need to be appropriately socialized and supervised with kids. See many people confused about why their supposedly "good with kids" breed isnt good with or tolerant of children when they havent had the appropriate socialization.
So true. ANY breed can be conditioned to tolerate children well, though we know some breeds take to young (young animals and children) more easily than others. Even older dogs can learn to behave and tolerate children appropriately. Despite this, NO dog should be left completely alone with a child. Even the most well-trained, well-behaved, and socialized dog can have a bad day, or get annoyed, or just not feel like being bothered. And most kids can't (or don't) really read canine body language well enough to know when enough is enough. So yes, even the "great with kids" breeds need early and frequent socialization, and should still always be supervised when interacting with children. There's no such thing as a "nanny" breed because dogs raise and discipline their young differently than we would raise a human child. Nipping is often a form of correction mothers give unruly puppies, but it's unacceptable to humans. So always socialize, always supervise, and make it a mission to really learn and understand canine body language.
Can you do a film of the cavalier King Charles spaniel? I grew up with those dogs and I’d love if you cold give them their own documentary so more get to see these great little dogs
I have 8 dogs lol and I’m a mom of 2 kids. We’re not overly active but we aren’t couch potatoes either. We have a toy poodle, Pomeranian, catahoula/lab mix, pit bull, basset hound, corgi/German Shepard mix, chihuahua mix,and a lab.

Can you make one on the Illyrian Sheperd/Sharplaninac If u need a breeder to interview there is my breeder named judy Picknell out of Oklahoma or Black swamp Sharplaninacs but i don’t know where they are located but they have a website you can search using their name.
Great stuff. And great breed recommendations. Perhaps not exactly the same as mine, but all of these are awesome. This channel has become one of may absolute favorites. Thanks so much.
Thanks a lot, Zeke! I'm an "empty nest" mom, but I also take care of my mother, aged 91 years, and can't have a dog that will jump on her or knock her over accidentally. It has to be a quiet and gentle dog, too. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks again!
Really great video and a change of pace from your other vids. My sister is a single mom and she’s owned her Rottie’s since when my first niece was born. That one was spot on. Question: the Golden for the first mom that you mentioned. Wouldn’t a Newfi slide right into that spot as well?
I'm a firm believer that there is dog of any breed for any person. Meaning you could find a Boxer for a mom that works. But Boxers love their people and really like spending time with them. That doesn't mean you won't find a Boxer that is ok with being left alone 8-10 hours a day.
@@DogumentaryTV I agree. If only people were a little more intentional and helpful. I totally agree there's a perfect dog for everybody (,except abusive people of course).
There are literally breeds of dog that are somewhat aloof and independent...if you have space your choices are many...if you live an apartment there's still a perfect dog for you. I believe standard poodles, afgahn hounds and some Nordic breeds and some Shepherd breeds are more loners. Try looking up dogs who are not that needy (lol) there are breeds who actually don't cling and would do great with a loving home and your spare time. Just like the channel creator said though...even dogs who aren't noted as being independent can vary in personality. If a puppy can play with a high interest toy joyfully for hours in a crate...I would give that pup some serious consideration. Any decent breeder should know their pups enough by observation to match you with the least needy pup that thrives on (me time). I once met a German Shepherd puppy who could care less about visitors as long as he had his toy. This pup would have been perfect for you. Well, all is not lost...if GOD made that puppy I'm sure there's another just like him. Hopefully the breeder will help you find the personalii you need. 😊
Great vid, big chap, and really well presented. Wee notes 1. The German SH Pointer. My ex wife has one and she really doesn't work it. These are absolutely lovely dogs but they are quite physical. I shoot in the UK - during the autumn and winter - and my usual companion is my springer spaniel. However, since my ex got her pointer I've also taken her out (the dog not my wife) and boy does she love to work. My spaniel is about 100x smarter and better trained but watching the Pointer cover open ground with a leap and a bound is intoxicating. The way these dogs move is like poetry. BUT they get easily bored and need regular companionship. Only get one if you have access to acres of land as they can run for hours and never get bored. 2. Ridgebacks are serious dogs. We had two bitches (sisters) when our kids were small and we lived in rural Scotland (Aberdeenshire). They were great with the kids - possibly better than the stereotypical Retriever - but they needed to run. I have never been fitter than when we had the Ridgebacks. Half an hour on the bike before work and an hour when I got home was the bare minimum. Cycling up a Scottish hill with a child on the back of the bike and two Ridgebacks cantering along? The best way of spending a Sunday morning.
We have been amazed at how tuned into kids X is. She has yet to meet a kid she doesn't like and is very tolerant. Low energy compared to almost all of the dogs on the list. So, for the laid-back mom. ;) -- I argue against French Bulldog for the glam-mom--those dogs fart, snore and drool :P Poodle all the way.
This is such an awesome concept! Thanks so much for pointing out that all types of dog breeds are for everyone. So true. We have a very large pack, mostly made up of Siberian Huskies and GSDs, but we also have Great Pyrs and an APBT x Dane. Whenever I'm out with them by myself (I usually walk 3 at a time because of how many we have), I usually get at least 1 or 2 comments about how I should be careful because they could start to drag me and cause me to get hurt, or questions about if I'm scared that a fight might break out that I wouldn't be able to break up because they're so large and powerful compared to me. A couple of times, I've even gotten questions asking why I'm walking them because my "husband" should really be the one handling dogs like them for safety. 🙄 I'm single, and though I live with my best friend who is a guy and a former Marine, I am more than capable of and more than comfortable with handling any of our dogs by myself. I've worked in the veterinary field for more than 14 years, I've owned Great Danes, Rotties, and APBTs, and I am a professional dog walker and pet sitter. Besides all that, I'm the one who does the majority of the impulse control training for our pack. I can have 8 or 10 of them out together in the large playroom we have for them and not be worried. They have the occasional scuffle, but never any major fights because I understand canine body language and can sense when something is off between them (so I can intervene before things escalate to the point of a fight). One of our rescued GSDs is also reactive, but I still don't have any problems handling or commanding him. So yep, women can definitely handle a variety of breeds. Glad to see this idea getting respect. I don't think we see nearly enough women yet in IPO / French Ring and other competitive sports. I hope to someday compete in the Iditarod, which is super light on female participants. Hoping this will start to change!
As a man who's kept Mastiffs, one doberman and bull breeds his entire life. I have the pleasure of owning an English Pointer / Lab mix, a rescue. One of the best dogs I've ever owned, loves people, kids, other dogs and everybody loves him. He won't guard for nothing he's an just an active fun loving dog. Its its own reward, it's not a very real worry or a liability concern ( I owned Filas starting back in the late 90s as example) if you practice regular responsible dog ownership.
Glam mom could opt for a Manchester terrier or even a toy Manchester terrier. they look like miniature versions of Doberman especially the teeny tiny toy.
I'm obsessed with you're channel thank-you for providing us with such amazing videos ! I'm a single mom & I'm getting a miniature schnauzer in December I'm super excited I can't wait ! 💕 maybe in the future I'll get myself a rottweiler puppy for protection they're beautiful.!😊
Benjamin Yates Just educate yourself and do lots of socializing when it's young. And don't allow it to be in charge at any time . Giant breeds need this as soon as they are old enough to open their eyes. They are AWSOME dogs!
I have 2 suggestions that could be options, but each one is different. The Great Pyrenees would be a fantastic option. They are amazing with children, true gentle giants. From our experience, they can do well indoors if they receive basic obedience training early on. They can be a little stubborn at times, but when you find that thing they can't live without (for our oldest, which is a female, it's cheese), they will focus for you. They're protective without being overbearing. And due to their size, can work well as mobility assistants with training. If you leave them outside at night, though, they WILL bark all night (a breed trait due to what they've been bred for). So I would suggest acclimating to living primarily indoors starting at early age so they can gradually learn to only bark when necessary. A Weimaraner could also be a good option. They're wicked intelligent, super intuitive, and very gentle with young animals and children. They do require a lot of exercise, though. That, however, can be achieved with high intensity games if fetch, games of tug with a flirt pole, and jogging / running on an indoor treadmill made specifically for dogs. They make EXCELLENT therapy dogs, though, so still a great option for a mother with a special needs child despite the exercise need.
Excellent channel! I'm a new subscriber and mom. I'm impressed by the topic and thoughtful considerations. Not sure if you've covered multiple dogs and which breeds mesh well? I currently have a blue heeler/American Eskimo mix who I adore. I will be adding more dogs to our family but curious about breed compatibility. My dog is well socialized, dominant but not aggressive, loyal, and intelligent and acitve. I am drawn to med. to large breeds. Any advice/suggestions are appreciated. BTW: I've always wanted a Rottweiler.
Can you do a video for best family protector dogs? Dogs that are naturally protective but great with kids? I know you did the best home protection dogs but some of those I think wouldn’t be good with kids. I have a 2yr old and a 5yr old and am looking into a German Shepard, Boxer, or maybe a Doberman.. I had a Rotty when I was 3/4 yrs old. He used to knock me down and lay on me not letting me to get up. I remember yelling for my mom to get him off me. Haha. He also would follow ME around. No one else in the family and slept in my room at night.
Boxers are also HYPER make sure you get a trainer for them... don't make the mistake I did lol now I deal with a dog that jumps up to 6 feet high when I come home from work. You don't know the feeling until you have a boxer too though !
Great list! It is clear that lots of consideration, knowledge & effort went into this!! Not a mom, but I am a career girl/treehugger. Couldn't be happier with my 2 boys: Boston terrier/chihuahua mix and a pit/lab mix. All things considered, they are both quite low maintenance doggos! We just put a lot of effort into initial socialization as pups & let them run around in the yard as much as possible on the daily. Their main priority is to snuggle, really. :) One thing that I would say is that IME, Springer/Cocker Spaniels or Terriers in general are superior all-around family dogs compared to Golden Retrievers. Forget diamonds, dogs are a girls best friend lol
My wife asked, "Where is the TIRED mom catagory?!". Lol
Rough collies (show line) are some of the most chill and well behaved dogs ever. Also amazing with children.
If serious question :P
Greyhound! Magnificent dogs who can run for 30 mins and snore for a day!
For the full house mom, he recommended a golden retriever. She would probably be the most tired mom.
HAHA! I think that's a Blood Hound.

Another great video bro... Good dogs, good recommendations and with good reason 👍👍 👊😎💯💯💯
Different strokes for different folks no doubt.... 😁
Love love love!
Name of the music in the starting please??
Excellent video
You should do a lot more vids like this best dogs for kids or best dogs for family's best dog for first time dog owners
Spot on.
I struggled with trying not to let this video offend me. I think it's just my differing opinions. I was much more satisfied with the last three. 👍🏼
Could you do a video on the Donovan Pitcher?
Cool vid!
I'm single, and though I live with my best friend who is a guy and a former Marine, I am more than capable of and more than comfortable with handling any of our dogs by myself.
Boxer Mama of two right here (they've always been my only children)! I think Boxers are for the Prankster Mom ;-) Thanks for another great video!
This is such a thoughtful video! Thanks for considering what the moms might be wanting.
For runners I would suggest a dog which obey commands easily (Poodel, Doberman), rather than a "Hound". You do not want your dog run off all the time.
What kind of mum will I be? I have a Belgian Shepherd. :D
The kick-ass kind! Love Belgian Shepherds as well as Dutchies!
haha! Thanks :D Yeah, Dutchies are awesome too!
I'm obsessed with you're channel thank-you for providing us with such amazing videos ! I'm a single mom & I'm getting a miniature schnauzer in December I'm super excited I can't wait ! 💕 maybe in the future I'll get myself a rottweiler puppy for protection they're beautiful.!😊
can you make a video on dog bite force
He probably has already and I probably seen it 100x lol 😂
All you need to know is a kangal is not a fun bite.
itz DRod
From my research, the kangal has the strongest bite force, of approximately 736 pounds per square inch!
msgottaneedtoknow ive seen 746 almost double of a gray wolf.
I know my Doberman once broke an intruders arm with only one bite
I was JUST searching google looking for family friendly dogs! Did not have a good experience with out Rottweiler/Cane Corso mix 😮
Nasay Jones well what did you expect from a dog thats made of two extremely protective dogs?
Do a video about different types of breeds for kids and teens
This was cool!!!
Forgot to mention, stay safe. My prayers are for those affected by the Califiornia fires.
I’m not a mum, but am a woman, and enjoy your channel 😊. Any dog for a working woman? I prefer large to extra large breeds
What do you think about the French mastiff for a lonely mom
Benjamin Yates
Just educate yourself and do lots of socializing when it's young. And don't allow it to be in charge at any time . Giant breeds need this as soon as they are old enough to open their eyes. They are AWSOME dogs!
Is a French Mastiff the same as the Bordeaux?
I agree with everything you say
Yep... same dog!
Yes
sir pls make video on the Samoyed dogs
Can you make one on saint Bernards? Thanks
How about the stay at home mum with children with special needs what would you recommand? It also have to do protection.
Please make video on Different teen and breed. Please sir
Lot's of love from Nepal.
Boxers are also HYPER make sure you get a trainer for them... don't make the mistake I did lol now I deal with a dog that jumps up to 6 feet high when I come home from work. You don't know the feeling until you have a boxer too though !
Single Daddios with a daughter who aspires to be an American Ninja Warrior? :P
Thank you
Are boxers protective naturally? That is, some breeds will protect without training, will most boxers?
I own 2 boxers 😳 but my kids aren’t leaving anytime soon 😝 3 and 1
solid video
Dogs for disabled people would be a good topic.
are you can you make a video on mix dogs
Lol @ 2nd Amendment Mom...this Louisiana Mom takes a Catahoula hunting. Still want a black Cane Corso tho😍
saludos amigo, desde venezuela like
I’m sure the Rhodesian Ridgeback is from Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 because Zimbabwe was called Rhodesia back then
One thing that I would say is that IME, Springer/Cocker Spaniels or Terriers in general are superior all-around family dogs compared to Golden Retrievers. Forget diamonds, dogs are a girls best friend lol
