You lost Kirrahe because you advanced to the main building without first taking out the "flyers" (rocket drones etc) which were off to the right as you approach. Easy to miss on a first playthrough.

Meeting The Sovereign is one of the coolest moments in the entire Mass Effect Series.
No fancy animations just exquisite and chilling writing. Debunking everything you thought you knew about this supposedly great civilization that turns out to be using technology developed and abondened long ago. There is so little known about The Protheans themselves. Makes you wonder just who exactly is responsable for creating The Reapers. Why they created them? Where they wiped out by their own technology just like Protheans? Man, so many questions.

The Sovereign-Saren scenario is a great adaptation of the Sauron-Saruman relationship from the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The wizard Saruman was convinced that he was joining forces with Sauron of his own free will, but what he did not know was that Sauron was able to indoctrinate others through the use of the palantirs (the crystal seeing stones). Sauron had specifically made Saruman believe that there was "an alliance" between the two towers. If you read Tolkien carefully (and that shown in the first film as well, although without explanation why), after communicating via the palantir, Saruman would shiver with cold - a side effect on the victims who were being so indoctrinated. In the 1st movie, when the orcs first show up inside the Isengard tower and ask Saruman "What orders from Mordor?", Saruman is seated, tightly wrapped in his robes, shivering.
Now, the reason I bring all this up is because Saren thinks he is in some alliance with Sovereign, while in fact, Sovereign has already influenced Saren into the delusion of an alliance, while in reality Sovereign is just using his puppet, Saren, to set up the chessboard for the optimal vector of slaughter efficiency when the game commences.
There is no way that someone as capable as Saren would be convinced of an impending, unstoppable galactic doom and need for self-enslavement in a casual chit chat with some self-entitled robotic entity. Saren's mind -- his perception of reality -- had to be tweaked slightly, so that he would be susceptible to such an unquestionable doomsday belief, without any real, documented evidence.

This! Was for sure worth the wait, the scene with Sovereign is such a key moment of the first game, leaves your mind scrambled. Shame that Cpt. Kirrahe didn't make it, but it's easy to miss things during this mission on the first playthrough. On my first playthrough Ashley shot Wrex, that was gutting. Keep up the good work, can't wait for more Mass Effect!

  • @StefanConstantinDumitrache
    @StefanConstantinDumitrache Рік тому +4

The game is NOT open-ended, so before you go into the end-game (you'll be warned when that is) you should make sure you finish what you want to finish around the Galaxy.
Regarding the locked door at 47:47: the facility has two points of entry, and once you advance too much with one of them, the other gets locked. Your radar was showing you some enemies you would have encountered on that other side, but they are unreachable now.
Virmire is a total rollercoaster, so many key moments happen here: your people die, you meet the main antagonist more or less directly, and you get to fight Saren. Really sets the tone for the rest of the Trilogy like no other moment or mission before it.
Your sniper scope was "freakin' out" because your squadmate hitbox was getting in the way, so you were automatically pulled out of scoping, because you cannot target and shoot friendlies.

Once you realize what's at stake in terms of the Galaxy, the gloves came off for me. Also this was and still is the ONLY game I've ever played that literally made me choose to play in a different style then what I wanted to if that makes sense.

Yeah there are three objectives you need to accomplish to save Kirrahe and his team. The first was Geth Communications. The second was the Satellite up-link and the third was either geth drones or something (cant remember exactly). Basically you could have explored the area outside where there were diverging paths a bit more but it's easy to miss due to time crunch and the urgency of the mission.
Either Kaiden or Ashley will die. This cannot be avoided. Kirrahe would have had a small role and a few cool scenes at the beginning of the third game had he survived but it's not a major change like losing Wrex would have been.
The Sovereign conversation is legendary and glad you enjoyed it.
Also the music during this mission is badass.

When it comes to the Protheans, a lot of things were based on assumption. And the reason for that is because there was virtually nothing indicating any species that predated them. Only traces of the Protheans still existed, while there was virtually nothing left on any race that predated them. And given the Protheans use of the technology, and being the only advanced race at the time, it was assumed that the technology was theirs.

Btw there are special armours in game for wrex and garrus(and im not talking about wrex's family armour)
For wrex its called battlemaster, geth armour made for their krogan warriors and it hss 3 colours, blue red and green but i only ever got blue and that was by chance after a couple playthroughs
For garrus its light phantom which you can only get by the salarian merchant in the lowr district close to chorra's den, this piece of armour you can normally only buy close to the end of the game and i think its best to buy ut before you start the ilos mission as that mission is considered a point no return.
A special weapon you can also get is the geth pulse rifle(arguably the most OP gun in mass effect 1) and this you can only get on your second or third play through(after starting the game aftesh with your character that completed the game previously) also when you import your ME1 character in ME1 you get all your stuff back that you had at the end of the game so you end up OP right from the jump

Yes, another game from you where I'm late to the party! I'll subscribe to make sure that doesn't happen again ;)
"This feels not good". Welcome to Mass Effect, the trilogy that can blow your mind, make you feel elated, make you feel the horror of decisions and consequences and make you cry all in the same story. Happy to follow you on your journey.
    *Locked door*
The locked door at 47:37 can be opened if you'd hacked it from the outside. It's a bit of a different way to enter the facility.
At the far end of where you entered the door to the facility (before disabling the alarm) there's a ramp down with a door under the facility. That's where this door leads. It's a bit odd that you can't go out the same way, but it's a way to _enter_ the facility so the game doesn't see any reason for you to go outside the facility and perhaps get lost in what your goal is.
    *Inventory management*
If you look at your inventory management it's easier to determine what to reduce to omni-gel than outside of it. Then again, being rich _does_ have its perks ;) It seems like you've acquired the best weapons already anyway, so you probably can sell off the rest. There's not much of a reason to stockpile weapons since you already have all squad mates at your disposal. Just outfit them and sell the rest to your requisition officer on the Normandy. That should give you enough room for new weapon loot, which will most likely be better than what you currently carry around in your inventory.
    *Indoctrination*
I love how you theorize about the indoctrination and Saren's involvement even before you encounter Sovereign. This is the best way to experience this trilogy, to wonder about everything you come across, lore, plot, dialogue and intent. The trilogy is catered to make you think about a lot of things, ethics, impact, consequences, so the more you think, the more the game will reward you with bits and pieces to support (or devastate) your line of thought.
The fact that Sovereign is an actual Reaper is something that blows everyone away when they first understand what Sovereign is. I always feel like this is the moment when people understand _why_ Mass Effect is such an epic story. I am so happy to see you appreciating this moment :)
And yeah, then they throw the sacrifice at you, turning that elation into devastation to really drive it home that this game will make you sacrifice people to stop the Reapers. After all, if you go up against something as powerful as the Reapers, able to destroy all life in the galaxy, they need to make you painfully aware of the stakes.
    *Rana Thanopsis*
Perhaps a fun bit of info, but the voice actress for Rana is actually the wife of Mark Meer, who voices your Shepard.
    *Council*
The Council is supposed to represent a government. Considering what many people think about their own governments I find the similarities pretty striking to be fair. Still, when you govern so many people, would _you_ trust a single person (or crew) when they claim there's an alien species trying to wipe out the entire galaxy? Wouldn't you also think that's as farfetched as can be? We have many individuals reaching out to our governments claiming that there are alien abductions, that the government needs to be prepared and we all agree they're insane. What makes Shepard different from those people?
They're frustrating as hell, but when you think about it, we'd probably react in a similar way (except perhaps less hostile) if we were in their position. I find that a painful realization.
I'm sorry if it's _way_ too much for a comment, but I tend to be quite extensive whenever it comes to ME ;) Just let me know if you don't appreciate reading through essays, okay?

All things considered, the reapers can be roasted on the spot starting with Sovereign.
“You demand nothing. You are incapable. You follow the programming of your creators who were so pathetic they could not bear to see others rise above- to do better than them. Your existence is dedicated to an eternal onslaught of selfish supremacy. Born to destroy. They even coded an ego into you. Absolutely pathetic.”

  • @JezaGaia
    @JezaGaia 4 місяці тому +1

So I know this is old but I can't help commenting.
The Turian counsilor is an ass, true, but many humans also are still very resentful about the first contact war, think about Prisley at the start. The other councilors make some sense only they did trust Saren without any proof about Captain Anderson and about you so while they have a point they don't follow it always.
I still choose to keep it civil with them as a gesture of respect towards the races they represent and also because I keep in mind that we'll never beat the reapers without unifying the whole of the races in the galaxy. So it's the function of the council and the races they stand for that I keep in mind when dealing with them even when they drive me nuts.
As for "The Choice" I always end up saving Kaiden, and here is why : we have a makeshift bomb that is the most vital point of the whole operation, it NEEDS to blow the base or we lost. If my only choices to arm the bomb are kaiden and Ashley I have to choose Kaiden, he's the thech of them both, if there is an issue to solve he's the only one of them who can possibly deal with it.
So by default Ashley will go with Kirrahe.
Then an the end when I ahve to choose, I know that Kaiden armed the bomb, and I know that Kirrahe told me once armed it was impossible to stop it from exploding meaning it should be a non issue in the choice I make. However I just learned that Saren is working for a race of sentient machines of unimaginable power and tech. How is to say that Saren using reaper tech couldn't disarm the bomb ? It's a risk I cannot take. So it's not that I choose one crew member over the other it's that I choose the bomb because it's the most important thing to protect. By default Kaiden gets saved.
I take solace in the fact that Ashley will be satisfied to redeem the honor of her family by her sacrifice, as stupid as that is. In that moment the right or wrong of the thinking is inconsequential it only matters that she feels it and will make it easier on her.
I also console myself remembering that at least I managed to save Rex.

  • @TaylorPrem
    @TaylorPrem Рік тому +4

So unfortunately there is no way to save both Ashley and Kaiden one of them is going to die no matter what.
Who you save does effect if you save any of the Salarians. They are in the tower with whoever you sent with them. If you go to the tower then you save both your Crewmate and the Salarians. If you go back to the bomb then the last of the Salarians will die.
It's unfortunate that Captain Kirahe died he comes back later if you manage to keep him alive. Which you almost did. You disabled communications and the satellite link. As well as disarming the alarms and leaving the guards in the base. but you didn't take out the flyers at the fueling station (if you had gone straight and not turned left to the base you would have found it).
    Hold the line.
    Also small spoiler.
letting Rana Thomoptes(I'm sure I spelled that wrong) go was a mistake. I won't say why it's not that big and doesn't effect the story in any way.

    *You are not Saren
*Rudimentary creatures of blood and flesh, you touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding.
*Theres a realm of existence so far beyond your own you cannot even imagine it. I am beyond your comprehension. I am Sovereign.
*Reaper? a lable created by the Protheans to give voice to their destruction, in the end what they choose to call us is irrelevant. We simply are.
*Organic life is nothing but genetic mutation, an accident. Your lives are measured in years and decades, you wither and die.
We are eternal, the pinnacle of evolution and existence. Before us you are nothing. Your extinction is inevitable. We are the end of everything.
*Confidence born of ignorance, the cycle cannot be broken
*The patern has repeated itself more times than you can fathom. Organic civillizations rise evolve advance and at the apex of their glory, they are extinguished.
The Protheans were not the first. They did not create the Citadel. They did not forge the Mass relays. They merely found them, the legacy of my kind.
*Your civilization is based on the technology of the Mass relays, our technology. By using it your society develops along the paths we desire.
We impose order on the chaos of organic evolution. You exist because we allow it, and you will end because we demand it.
*My kind transcends your very understanding. We are each a nation, independent, free of all weakness. You cannot even grasp the nature of our existence.
*We have no beginning, we have no end. We are infinite. Millions of years after your civilizations are eradicated and forgotten, we will endure.
*We are legion. The time of our return is coming. Our numbers will darken the sky of every world. You cannot escape your doom.

    Wow, so much to unpack!
    1) Pour one out for Captain Kirrahe! He can be saved, but it's easy to miss (need to take out the flying bots on the far right before entering the facility). I missed it too on my first playrthrough, so don't beat yourself up for it. He is a great character though, and he will be greatly missed in ME3.
    2) Sovereign. Yeah, what a doozy. To finally learn why the Protheans (and countless other species) vanished. It's incomprehensible and terrifying. Was Sovereign bluffing? Can the Reapers be stopped? We'll find out sooner or later.
    3) The Council. Yeah, you should've really disconnected. Not only it's hilarious, but also deserved.
    4) The Virmire survivor. One of the gutsiest decisions BioWare made is to have you pick between saving Ashley and saving Kaiden. It's heartwrenching, but for what it's worth, most would say you made the right decision. Yeah, Ashley is rough around the edges, but at least she has a personality. Kaiden's blandess doesn't even improve in the sequels, which is a shame. I would pick Ashley over Kaiden every day of the week.
Great episode. Mass Effect is the best video game experience in the history of video games.

Haha yeah poor Kaiden. BioWares numbers don’t lie 😅
It’s become fashionable for talking heads to dunk on Ashley but she’s still by far the more popular survivor. I won’t mention the numbers because they can be a spoiler for later games but on LE’s release it was still overwhelmingly Ashley that survived ME:1.

Honestly the choice between Kaiden and Ashley wasn’t even a contest I can’t stand Ashley and her space racism personally lol😅 😂

I can understand players who don't want to loose people but it's a bit childish to think everything will always be all right even if it's a game. Anyway the choice for me was always based on necessity Shep needs to be sure the bomb is not deactivated so it's a strategic choice not one based on sympathy so in this case he has to choose Kaidan. You choose who dies and who lives when you choose who goes with the salarians and who stays with the bomb.
