Mark Felton Productions : SS Commandos - Ardennes 1944. He got many great videos from the less known battles and events of WW2

Or a civilian in London hearing those V1's or bomber raids and Stuka's attacking. Yeah you would be pissing and shitting your pants in fear.
Sure they are not scary sitting at your desk in the safety of your room acting all tough and "Oh those are not that scary", but I tell you, witness some of that first hand and you will be singing a whole new song.

I think something to understand with the V1 rocket is the fear it would instil on the people below. You hear it, hope to god it's going to pass you and then...silence. It's dropping. It's the silence of the V1 to makes it terrifying.

    One: Ear/Headphones
Two: Put into the perspective of the soldiers and civilians at the time who would have to have dealt with these at a moment's notice.
Soldiers: Bombs and/or rockets and running around and/or jumping into foxholes hoping not ONE of them hits close to you, let alone killing you and pray that it will end soon. If you don't have an anti-tank weapon and you hear the sound of say in this case, a Tank; HIDE and try to plan out how to either avoid it and the soldiers escorting it or to get close enough to take out the soldiers and maybe eventually kill/capture the Tank crew.
Civilians: In the case of the V1, you're practically helpless as you hear the sound of its engine and you HOPE to God that it will pass over you.
    Then, SILENCE.
    You KNOW it's falling.
You KNOW it's going to hit and explode somewhere.
    But where?
In another town? Or... it could be that it's going to hit YOU.
    Then... BOOM!
Either it did hit somewhere else and perhaps you can even see the pillar of smoke. Or, it's the last thing you heard.

I think what scared people at that time was that all this could be the last thing they hear

The v-1 was terrifying because when it reached its target it went silent before exploding

In my opinion.. and for me personally, the Stuka siren and the V-1 would be the most terrifying.
The Stuka, because (according to people that were actually attacked by Stuka's), the noise that the siren makes kinda confuses you, and you don't really know where exactly it's coming from, so you don't really know where the bombs are gonna hit. All you could do is lay down somewhere kinda safe and hope you won't be blown into pieces. And I don't have to explain that this siren probably caused quite a bit of PTSD.
And the V-1 because (in my opinion) the sound was so unique. The loud buzzing and then the abrupt stop, which then followed the explosion must've been horrible. Because just like the Stuka, you had no idea where it would land. Most of the time you could hear it, but you couldn't see it. And when the buzzing stopped, there was this moment of silence where you'd just wait for the explosion and hope that it's not anywhere near you.

the sound my grandgrand father hates was the katyusha, called here "stalin orgel" he were on the eastern front for nearly a year and got captured by sovites, got into gulag, nearly lost his leg after the mine collapsed. The katyusha was less accurate, yes, but they basicalley spammed everything down

My great grandmother who is 100 years old still vividly remembers the sounds of air raid sirens, plans and bombings. She lived in the east end of London during the war. She still gets nervous when films or documents come out about the Blitz’s.

Scary thing about V1 was that it would turn down the engine just before it dropped. So as long as you could hear it, you were basically safe. When you stopped hearing it, you knew the bomb had to drop somewhere close to you.

    The three most famous sounds?
Russian Kathysha missile system was infamous, The german MG 42 "Spanau" machine gun, and of course the infamous Stuka dive-bombers.
But if you have ever seen the Soviet WW2 movie by Elem Klimov titled "Idri i Smotri" (Come and See), you will think the relatively innocent hum of a normal reconnisaince plane is the most scary of them all...
