"Heartline Twister Coaster 1 looks too intense for me" But for real, I've always wanted to ride one of these since first seeing them in the original RCT.

I was a singer/dancer at AstroWorld in high school and would ride this almost every day for years. It was the most fascinating ride and still is! Feel very lucky to have been able to ride it and with such amazing frequency.
I too spent many a Summer day in the various lines at Astroworld. Glad I got to ride this as often as I did. Was a real shame what happened to the ride...and the park. Miss it terribly.
I still love what RCT player Marcel Vos said about the version in RCT: "There is one thing the heartline twister is good at, and that is being the worst."
I used to make a pink and blue one with white cars. Just a quick out and back while snuggled into a tight confined space. I called the ride The Masturbator!
@@johnholder4208 Nope, not joking. I think they are quite intense rides and I haven't ridden one that I disliked. While I haven't ridden every one in the world, the ones I did ride were a lot of fun. The one that used to operate in Texas was my least favorite as it didn't have the vertical lift. What parks did you ride them at?

I rode the Ultra Twister in 2004 at Astroworld. It was BRUTAL! I felt like a tennis ball in a tumble dryer. As the rolls started, I prayed that I would make out without a concussion. I had bruises when I got off. But what a memory!
One thing I love about your channel is the incorporation of the commercials for some of the rides. Makes it a lot more in depth to the history of the ride and makes it feel it's still around.
I went to Astroworld during "Physics Day" where Physics school kids were the only ones allowed in the park. It rained, all rides closed, and all schools left, except for mine. The rides all opened back up, and me and my 10 or so other classmates had the whole park to ourselves. We rode Ultra-Twister 15 times in a row, the ride operator just said "Tell me when you wanna stop, I am just going to keep it moving until then." Amazing experience. I remember the ride being butter smooth, smoother than any other coaster. This was about 1998 at Astroworld :)
11:14 Actually the first company to introduce a Vertical Lift Hill, was Chance Rides! Their Toboggan coasters used the vertical lift, so I say Chance Rides invited it
I rode thus ride while it was at astroworld and it was one of my favorite coaster! Also the sound of the car flying past while waiting in line really heightened the excitement
I wish I had known how lucky I was when I got to ride this. It always seemed like the dark horse at Astroworld. It was off the beaten path and rarely had a long line, but was really fun and unique. I always wondered why it wasn’t more popular. My take is that people mistakenly thought it would be more nauseating, but it really wasn’t.
Ikr! Everyone either went to Batman or Cyclone. This just became the Jan Brady of the right side of the park. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I rode it several times, but I never gave it much credit, to me, it didn't live up to hype. I loved, Texas Cyclone, Batman and Greased Lightning, those were thrilling rides. Taz's Texas Tornado, Viper and Serial Thrilla, had the strongest forces in the park and I miss them all. Mayan Mindbender, Serpent, XLR8R, Excaliber and Revolution we're all kiddie coasters as far as I was concerned.
We need a video on "Viper" that was at Six Flags Great Adventure. The whole story with the USA facility, it being a prototype, adding the rings, the fact people said it was so painful (meanwhile it wasn't even close to pre-premiere big apple coaster, or the togo stand ups still up, and of course the disaster of windjammer surf racers). That everyone thought it was better to watch and picture-esque, etc. It has a backstory most don't know. Unless i'm nuts and this already happened. I wish it could've been fixed/altered I thought it was enjoyable besides the shoulder harnesses and it should've had a double in-line twist inversion(s) too. The drop not even being tall literally WAS SOMETHING to write home about on top of it.
i dont know too much about the history, is this the same viper at six flag magic mountain currently? because that shit sucks! they should include a dose of asprin to every rider.
I liked Viper. It had the best drop in the park and the inversions were fun. It was not a fun ride to test ride in the morning since it would leave me seeing stars. The coaster ran better with a full train. Even though Rolling Thunder was my main coaster, I was able to experience Viper with 3 train operations, “wheels being thrown” and Viper being struck by lightning. It was a fun coaster to ride and work. I preferred it over Medusa in both aspects.
I grew up going to Great Adventure, and had season passes during the ‘lifetime’ of Ultra Twister. It was, by far, my favorite attraction, and I wouldn’t even be able to venture a guess as to how many times I rode it. I remember its constant closures, though. There was another high ride nearby, and we would get on it, just to see if UT was back up and running! I will say, though, I remember it being *quite* a rough/uncomfortable ride. And I was a preteen then, so I’d never be able to handle it in my old age now. Lol!
Great Adventure is my Home park. I got to ride Ultra Twister once, the year it opened. I loved it, but it was so unreliable, It wasn't running every time I went back. I loved all the archival film in this video. It really brought back memories.
Just wanted to say I'm glad you're doing Six Flags content, it's been great so far. Have you considered doing a video on Elitch Gardens in Colorado? They were under the Six Flags umbrella for a while.
I always wondered if this was a real coaster type from playing RCT3, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that, yes, it is! Thanks for making this! This is really cool.
I worked at AstroWorld the Summer of '90. Employees walked directly under the Twister to enter the park from the parking lot, usually when a ride car was spinning overhead. It was...intense. I also vaguely remember someone getting hurt on the ride and rerouting guests from that section of the park after the incident. Great video!
Got to meet someone on the Ride Safety Commission who was able to confirm some of the details of Ultratwisters construction. After meeting with executives from Togo, the Six Flags executives wanted the ride to be assembled in Japan first so they could see it operating and request changes before it’s relocation to GADV. They also wanted the ride to be easily removable for its ride rotation program. So yes, the prototype in the video is in Japan, and it is also the same ultratwister that was sent to Six Flags Great Adventure.
Oh wow! I love your stuff and this one hit home. Astroworld was my home park growing up. Ultra Twister was so so scary... Something about that "MOVING CONVEYOR BELT PLEASE WATCH YOUR STEP" announcement as the loading platform kept moving. It really added the anticipation. I was always worried they would be rushed and forget something... even though they never really would. This coaster has some of the strongest memories for me ever! Thank you for this. It like a love letter to me.
Great video. I rode it at Astroworld in the early 90’s. It was incredibly smooth, and although I was young I remember the first drop having extreme ejector air as it flung you over that first drop. A great ride overall and I remember as a kid thinking that this was the most futuristic roller coaster I had ever seen.

I was lucky to ride Ultra Twister in its first few weeks and during its last few days of operation. I didn’t think it was great but it certainly wasn’t terrible like the Togo Viper that eventually replaced it at Great Adventure.
I loved riding the one at AstroWorld. Could not get enough of that coaster. It's a shame Six Flags shut down the park thinking that they could make more out of selling the land.
I rode the one at Korakuen, Tokyo Dome and loved it! The vertical lift, almost vertical drop, heartline rolls and backwards switch were quite unique and thrilling at the time.
Agreed! I last rode Ultra Twister on closing day 2005. I’d wondered since then what became of it after the park closed, but after seeing this, I think I preferred ignorance. Sad to see such a novel ride scrapped.
This was and always will be my favorite coaster ever at Great Adventure... I was on it multiple times the few years it was there... They haven't had anything better since it's removal (imho)...😁
Its a shame. Six Flags America really needed, and still does need, a unique ride like this. They should have made the effort to fix it, especially since it was the only one in the US.
I rode this at Astroworld on a high school band trip in the early 90s. I remember it very fondly! I rode in the front row, & looking down at the nearly vertical drop was terrifying. And the heartline rolls were so much fun! It was a super unique roller coaster for it's time.
I remember the ride when it was at Astroworld! Watching some of these videos really makes me miss Astroworld. I was a yearly season pass hold until it sadly closed.
"Moving conveyor! Please WATCH YOUR STEP!!!" Yes! We were proud to have that coaster in Houston. The 45 degree lift hill caused the ride footprint to be "left offset" of The Texas Cyclone. It was also found that the hydra fluid to work the "turn tables" was "too thick" for Houston. 3 computer processors ensured safety. The sad note WAS, Yes! the park came down around 7-9 months. I filmed the careless nature of some of the contractors. Lots of rides were damaged. Batman, Huss Troika (was sent to Six Flags Over Texas.)
I know that my mother used to frequent Great Adventure in the late 80s, so I asked her if she remembered Ultra Twister and she did! She said it was awesome. She also loved Lightnin’ Loops.
I remember this one from Great Adventure, which was my nearest park in the 80s. Unfortunately, as a young teen I was too chicken to try it out, and that remains one of my biggest "enthusiast regrets" to this day. I did stand and watch it for quite some time, though, as it was pretty amazing to watch it go through its cycle.
Same here. I was 10 and I wasn’t ready to be inverted, let alone go up a 90 degree lift or go down that drop or go backwards. Lightning Loops was also a no-go. Shockwave was my 1st looper!
I road that in NJ back in the day. It was a pretty cool ride. I do remember going back to the park about 4 years later to find the ride was surprisingly gone, Was interesting to learn all these yrs later what happened to it
This ride looked way better in the commercials then it was in real life. I remember being so excited to ride this, waited in line for 2 hours, and being so disappointed at the end. You got a couple twists and that’s it.
Ultra Twister rides foreman here from Astroworld ‘91. Funny that everyone in Houston remembers the ride’s strict manly intercom voice saying “Moving conveyor, please watch your step.” Working there, it was fun to observe the stuff we used to find in the small white rocks below the track at the end of the night (mainly hundreds of cheap neon pink and green imitation Ray-ban sunglasses). Great fun to work there. I miss it dearly.
Ooh, I always wanted to go on the Ultra Twister, but I was too young. By the time I was old enough, it had been replaced by the Viper. I still remember the guy who was super excited to run the Viper when I was working at Great Adventure - wonder if actually doing it changed his mind.
I loved going on this ride whenever I got the chance to go to Astro World growing up. It really was a one of a kind coaster that I doubt will ever be duplicated. I remember going on it with my sister and brother-in-law before they were married.
I have to go against you on the not rough part. I rode it many times at Astroworld, and the brake runs were insanely abrupt, especially the forward facing one on the top track. With that being said...I still loved it! Cresting the peak of the lift hill was always a breathtaking moment!
Rode it one in the 80's at SF Great Adventure...decent ride and I remember it being very smooth. Guess I was one of the 10k people on the handful of days it was operating in NJ.
your videos are some of the best, most informative on youtube, i always learn something new. great adventure is my home park and i had never heard of this ride before.
I wish I was old enough to ride this back in the day when this was my home park and then it was replaced by viper which was horrible . Great vid though gives me a lot of great adventure nostalgia
I’ve only ever seen this type of coaster in RollerCoaster Tycoon 1+2. Possibly in RCT 3 but I’m not sure. Either way, its nice to see it actually running (sort of). It looked like it would be a lot of fun to ride. shame they never opened on in the UK. Come to think of it , I don’t think I’ve encountered a TOGO coaster in the UK
I was lucky enough to ride it at Astroworld, it was such a fun ride! That first drop was such a surprise, being the first nearly 90 degree drop, and with it only having single cars, you plummeted immediately after the lift hill. Awesome ride.
Cool video... Been wondering about this roller coaster for a while now as its one included in a roller Coaster Tycoon 3 and lockdown and all, you know, time to go back to the classics.
I remember seeing this as a kid and NEVER forgot about the ride itself and searched high and low for it worldwide on my trips overseas just to ride it. Never knew it was at Astroworld.
I rode the one at AstroWorld several times. It was such a different type of ride! I wish someone would pick the concept up and use it. It was a smooth ride and gave a dynamic in the ride no other coaster could do!
I rode the Ultra Twister when it was at Great Adventure in Jersey. As I remember it was a fun, fast, short ride -- I wanted that sensation to keep going. Also I remember the forces were being pretty harsh on your shoulders and upper body. Definetly a ride that was over-hyped, but still a fun ride to jump on real quick.
Great ride! I rode it at Six Flags Astroworld, like 500 times. I'm from Houston, and am Disgusted that Astroworld had to be Demolished. I was Born in 1976, so Astroworld was my Hang Out spot. Takes a lot of Memories away, because it got Demolished. It's a shame to me. Thanks.
I rode this when it was at great adventure back in the 80’s and can still remember it being the most unique coaster ever. I also remember going back to the park multiple times and seeing the ride closed and then it was gone. Definitely a good ride but it was at the wrong park. Ride capacity was way too low for SFGAV
This was cool to see. I actually got to ride it a few times at astro world. It was fun and a smooth ride. I always wondered what happened to it after astro world closed. Now I know, its gone forever. I wondered what happened to the viper as well. I loved the early 90's, we had season passes to six flags so could hit up six flags over Texas, Fiesta Texas in San Antonio and Astro World a couple times a summer.
Viper gone forever too. The only ride operating are Serial Thriller, and Mayan Mindbender. Greezed lightning and Taz Texas Tornado are still around, but I don't think they will ever be assembled again.
I miss that ride. Glad I was lucky enough to catch the Astroworld version. Would have been great to ride the original vertical version, but oh well. Can’t catch them all! Wish someone would build something similar. There are smaller parks with not much space that could use something like this.
I remember seeing the pieces at Six Flags America (my home park), in the field beyond Batwing, and wishing I could have ridden it. I'm even more :( after seeing it in action.
As mentioned in the video, at AstroWorld, the Ultra Twister was modified to have a 45 degree lift hill. However the attachments for the rails of the original vertical lift still existed and were easily visible. The seats were pretty ergonomic but I always felt like the seat back tilted forward a bit. That would actually make sense for a vertical lift. I'll always remember the sound of the recording that played on the platform. "Moving conveyor! Please watch your step!" The station and lift were located directly behind the mountain formerly occupied by the Alpine Sleigh Ride which had closed years before. The tracks from the Sleighs that extended behind the mountain had to be demolished to make room for Ultra Twister.
I rode the one in Nagashima Spa Land this month and thought the seat back was a bit forward and seemed very odd. Great ride thought, I was lucky enough to ride it many many times on my visit there as the park was quiet.
Great video don’t know your information from or ya films from but it great to see them from times past never to repeated again. Keep up with the good stuff 10 out 10
Being a native New Jerseyan I always love to go to Six Flags whenever I get the opportunity. I definitely woul have loved to ride the ultra twister if it was still around even though I'm not much of a rollercoaster person

So sad... and yes yes yes that announcement scared the crud out of me for some reason.
Oh my god the spaceship( Forever my favorite) and forward/ reverse lightning loops. Oh wow such great memories
I know that my mother used to frequent Great Adventure in the late 80s, so I asked her if she remembered Ultra Twister and she did! She said it was awesome. She also loved Lightnin’ Loops.
That's awesome!
Another amazing video Sam, your research, commentary and editing is second to none. Thank you
Thank you so much for making this! Showed this to my dad (he worked at astroworld) and he loved it!
That's awesome!
Astroworld was my home park 😭😭😭 Ultra Twister was my absolute favorite if you couldn’t tell by my screen name.
Mine too!
I preferred Greezed Lightning, The Cyclone(of course) and that one with the dragon tunnel on the drop hill(forget the name ATM)
@@ChrisJones-qw7bn Viper ;) I miss Astroworld.
Such a unique ride to see
Same here. I was 10 and I wasn’t ready to be inverted, let alone go up a 90 degree lift or go down that drop or go backwards. Lightning Loops was also a no-go. Shockwave was my 1st looper!
Pop to japan and try it now!!
I road that in NJ back in the day. It was a pretty cool ride. I do remember going back to the park about 4 years later to find the ride was surprisingly gone, Was interesting to learn all these yrs later what happened to it
These Japanese concepts certainly are interesting... Personally, I would love to see an episode on Moonsalt Scramble.
Definitely would be interested in that!
Surprised this one never ended up in Planet Coaster. I bet it's probably been requested 1000 times.
RCT it is!
I subtly threw the idea at the PlanCo devs at a real-life event. Clearly it sadly didn't make it, for whatever reason it may be.
@@SilvarretI hope they make it into planet coaster 2
ASTROWORLD May have not been the best park, but boy did we have some fun and experimental rides. Miss that park so much!
Such a cool park!
That's awesome!
Ooh, I always wanted to go on the Ultra Twister, but I was too young. By the time I was old enough, it had been replaced by the Viper. I still remember the guy who was super excited to run the Viper when I was working at Great Adventure - wonder if actually doing it changed his mind.
Great video and can’t wait to see your take on Astroworld! 👍🏼
Fascinating to hear the history of this ride which I recognise purely from Roller Coaster Tycoon! 😊 fab as always!
This was another brilliant TOGO history! Can I put in a request for the History of Phantasialand and it's devastating fire in 2001?
It's on my plans to do!
I loved going on this ride whenever I got the chance to go to Astro World growing up. It really was a one of a kind coaster that I doubt will ever be duplicated. I remember going on it with my sister and brother-in-law before they were married.
Yeah!
Thank you so much
Omg I knew I recognized that track!! It was in Astroworld and was a fantastic lil ride for a young tween who was just getting used to inversions lol
Ahead of it's time!
Just rode the one at Nagashima Spa Land last month and I got off in a state of shock. Truly a bizarre but fun ride
I've ridden this one! At the time it was the only coaster I could ride upside down. I missed out on some great ones at Astroworld in the 80s.
What's the music during the intro video?? that bass fill at 0:43 hunnghh
Very entertaining and fun to watch. Thanks for posting this.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Okay I'm thirty seconds in and I think I found my favorite coaster designs of all time. God videos like these break my heart man.
right!?
Love this channel, man!
Thanks.
Remember when they opened the Dungeon Drop in the 90's? That was Next level!!!!
I wasn't going then on a regular basis. Drinking a lot of alcohol at that time.@@AlgaeEater09
Good times!
Viper gone forever too. The only ride operating are Serial Thriller, and Mayan Mindbender. Greezed lightning and Taz Texas Tornado are still around, but
I don't think they will ever be assembled again.
That is so cool. It looks awesome
Love your Videos!
Thank you!
I miss that ride. Glad I was lucky enough to catch the Astroworld version. Would have been great to ride the original vertical version, but oh well. Can’t catch them all! Wish someone would build something similar. There are smaller parks with not much space that could use something like this.
Agreed
I remember seeing the pieces at Six Flags America (my home park), in the field beyond Batwing, and wishing I could have ridden it. I'm even more :( after seeing it in action.
Yeah such a shame
Ah, I'm glad I got this credit as a kid at Astroworld!
Lucky!
I got to ride this at the now defunct astroworld! I feel lucky to have had the chance.
Great ride, I wish we had got a larger scale pipeline coaster at some point. Still so much potential for this model.
Would of been so cool
Great video don’t know your information from or ya films from but it great to see them from times past never to repeated again. Keep up with the good stuff 10 out 10
Thank you
Another great video!
Thank you!!
So sad this ride didn't make it at Six Flags Great America! Would have loved to ride it.
Loved this ride! Was able to ride it when it was at six flags great adventure. The drop was awesome
Yeahh
The first vertical lift hills were on the Chance Toboggans.
Being a native New Jerseyan I always love to go to Six Flags whenever I get the opportunity. I definitely woul have loved to ride the ultra twister if it was still around even though I'm not much of a rollercoaster person

Togo:. We're going to make this coaster with tilting platforms.
Vekoma:. Write this all down.
