No, schizophrenia doesn't make a person 'crazy' on it's own. Sometimes it can, but there are a lot of them out there that learn how to deal with it and take it in stride. My sister's dad has schizophrenia and he is chill when sober or only smoking weed. He doesn't hear the voices, see hallucinations, or think the cops are after him. He is stable, for the most part. It's when hard drugs are involved that it gets out of control. It's like putting schizophrenia and drugs together make both of them 100x more 'potent.' He would think the feds were after him, that there were bodies buried in the yard, and he even told my sister he saw a spider monkey. It's sad because he hasn't gotten better at all through our childhood and my sister eventually cut him off after she moved out of his house. He will get sober every year or so and then always go back.

Something similar happened to my grandpa, when he was 18 he was a welder and when he was working on a bridge a tar machine exploded on him and ignited. His friends pushed him into the snow to put out the fire and told him not to look down but when he did he saw his skin melting off, the only thing that saved him was his winter bibs. The doctors had to use something they were still testing to grow his skin back on, he can’t feel anything anymore since his whole body is like a scar but it worked luckily.

One of the types of schizophrenia include the person not believing they have it. If she was on meds, and no one checked to make sure she took them, no shit she wouldn't take it. This was a lack of responsibility on whomever diagnosed her. Yes, she did the crime. And let's not ignore the fact if someone doesn’t believe they are sick, and has an illness that literally impares sense of reality, they wouldn't take the meds.
I think she might have in the beginning, take the meds. Depending on where she ended up for prison, they would have made her, but once it's not regulated or in a spot to ensure? A lot of people go off it. And do you really think for a second granny would have been able to enforce shit? You don't have to like her, or even feel sympathy towards her. Just don't be trying to act like this isn't a fuck up on the state as well. Cause that also means you aren't acknowledging how the victim didn't have to be one.
