    I love this so much. You put into words the season of life I’m currently in. I have a very busy 3 year old and a 7 month old and my self care went out the window. And I laughed when you brought up how when you ate you did so quickly because it was all the time you had..... I’m sitting here nodding because that’s me at every meal. I have a new goal for the new year and that’s getting myself back into a self care routine. I need to squash the voices in my head that are saying that I’m being selfish when I want me time. I look forward to seeing your beautiful diary transform in the upcoming year 💕

    I have a Stalogy notebook that has pages similar to the Hobonichi daily pages. I use it as a 5 year question-a-day type memory book. I just went on Pinterest and found a year’s worth of questions, wrote one per page/date, and I answer the question daily. The questions range from things like how much is a gallon of gas to who was the last person you hugged and everything in between. I think it will be fun to look back on my answers to the same questions year after year.

    For the last couple of years I've been using the Midori MD A6 grid notebook as my edc journal. I love it! It's so dinky and the paper is brilliant to write on. I love a black and inky pen and the paper doesn't smear or show through at all. I've customised it by adding an elastic strap, an extra bookmark, and covered the cover with some pretty paper. I also added calendar stickers to the first 12 spreads so it's a diary as well as a notebook. It's a perfect notebook!

    Another awesome video! I took your advice and got an MD notebook in the size I am using for next years Hobonichi, and I think I like the MD better! I really love undated for memory keeping, so I don’t feel the pressure to fill each day. I’ve used this years Hobonichi for memory keeping sometimes on the correct day, but if I have more than one page worth of keepsakes, I flow over onto other dates and keep track of it in the calendex at the beginning. I now backfill empty days with random ephemera and tags.
    One option is to use the Hobonichi for nothing that has an add in. It would be an awesome place to pen swatch for Tomoe River paper, along with watercolors and mildliners. It would be easy to use the calendex at the beginning as an index of swatches, and no worry of using up too much space or relegating pen swatches to the back of a notebook. You could sketch or watercolor on any date that was current, and you could see how often you do it. I’m about twice a month, but like to do a few pages at a time. You could also test out headers and lettering for your memory keeping. You could use it more as a reference book with the dates acting as an index. It’s such beautiful paper.
    I reference my swatches sometimes and I’ll have to make another set for next years book. My Hobonichi this year is very bulky and I’d like to keep it on the thinner side, so after talking this through, I think I’ll do the same for next year. 😹 Plus, I love that MD.
    So glad you are finding your focus on self care and that this has been such a positive experience! I loved hearing your story.

    Great video! I am on the fence about investing in a Hobonichi for months. Looking at Instagram posts got me really interested to see how people plan in it and I love how they use it. BUT I haven’t been convinced yet because one the cost, two the format, and three the designs of the covers (haven’t found any I liked for 2019!).
    I got a Midori MD weekly diary for next year, and it was more of challenge because I’m used to journaling in my Campus notebook and going into a weekly style is really small. But when I got the Midori, I felt the same thing, I was charmed by the brand and the feel of the notebook! Seeing this video made decide to not get the Hobonichi. I love the size of the Midori and I feel like the Hobonichi wouldn’t be much different but it’s really the format and layout. I feel constrained if it’s a page a day versus keeping just a weekly track; it’s less commitment lol.
    I love all your points you made. I want to give the Hobonichi a try...maybe when I have extra money I can splurge, but it’s TEAM MIDORi for me, hehe.

    I totally relate to your situation and understand how important it is to select the right diary every year that feels just right. It is such a personal decision because you will be handling it for a whole year so it has to be perfect. I just purchased my second 2019 weekly diary (Kikki.k A6 Inspiration in Navy) because I liked it more than the first (Busy B A5 2019), similarly to the way you felt with the MD 2019 diary after purchasing the Hobinichi. I know it’s sad to give out the first incorrect purchase but at least you have this satisfying settling feeling that you chose the right diary for the whole year.
    I also prefer the A6 over the A5, A6 is just so much more cute and convenient to carry around everywhere. In 2017, I selected the Muji A6 weekly one page diary. Unfortunately, Muji discontinued the A6 diary and switched it over to a size that is larger than an A6 and smaller than an A5. In 2018, I tried the Muji A5 weekly diary and I had more than enough space for memory keeping. I just used the right blank page to highlight the best memory of the week. I used the Sproket to print out small photos and stick them in the diary. What is so nice about the Sproket is that the sheets are stickers and the Sproket prints the stickers instantly. All right pages of the diary are blank and are excellent for memory keeping.
    You can use the right blank page as a weekly self care page (track self care habits and reflections) if that helps. Also there are so many blank pages in the end of the diary for journal prompts and more self care layouts which you can find in Pinterest or Instagram. Just so you know all blank pages in Muji diaries are grid patterned,not lined.
    Hope this helps.🌷
    Loved your video. 💋

    I am having the same dilemma! I bought a Hobonichi Techo to use as my 2019 journal because it was fountain pen friendly but I started using the A6 Midori MD in October and I really like the freedom of having an undated journal so that I can decorate and write freely. I splurged on some A6 lined Muji notebooks during the summer and then changed my mind and bought the mega weeks sneaker edition (I blame it on the Hobonichi advertising and cute covers) . It was very hard for me to control myself from buying another Hobonichi Techo as I'm trying to do the one book a year for 2019. I was too experimental this year and determined to stop collecting too many halfway used planners. Instead of a clear cover you can find unique designs of washi tape on Etsy. That way you could make your notebook cover cheaply and without the bulk. Using 2 planners next year for personal and work. You can use one book to track memories of your family or kids, recipe book, tracking UA-cam ideas and recording status. There's quite a few videos around here on ideas of using old or extra planners. Good luck!

    i saw someone using the midori 1 a day as a 20 year journal, besically one line a year on the day it corresponds to. i currently bought a 5year hobo for 2023- but im thinking i might try that out in 2028

      Hi! The Midori One Day One Page won’t fit in a Hobonichi cover. The Midori is the same size as the Hobonichi 5 Year so it has to have a bigger cover.

    I just want to know if the Midori MD is fitted for field use: survives being in a briefcase, will not impede my thought process, and if pages can be easily torn out if needed?

    • @sarahmartinezjournals
      @sarahmartinezjournals  5 років тому +1

      The regular md notebook would be great for that! Putting the clear plastic cover on it will help with its durability in a briefcase. Since it’s just a regular notebook, you won’t be restricted by dates so you can fill as many pages as needed♥️. However, pages can’t be torn easily. It’s a perfect bound book, not perforated. So if you tear out a page, the opposite page in the signature will also come out (which isn’t a huge deal, but just something to be aware of). ♥️

      That’s not the one I have. The one I have will be listed as “One Day One Page”. So it will have a page for each day. The one I linked in my previous comment is the same one in your link-It has 4 sections on one page (you can use each section for one day so each page would have 4 days). Hi Sarah, like so many I am so torn between these brands ...I love the clean simplicity of the midori but adore the Hobo too. I'm trying to pair down my planner addictions. Lol. I get stuck at the dated giving me impetus but also stress if I don't do it and also lack of space if I have more to say. I think I'm nearly there with a weeks as my planner and using a lovely notebook as a bujo style project/catchall book and an A6 techo for art journaling as it keeps me going with quick sketches which i don't do daily but more frequently than when I just had a sketchbook. I was really hooked by the idea of a common place book this year....maybe if you still have your techo or unused notebooks they could become that for you. You can use the dates like an index system. 💜

    • @sarahmartinezjournals
      @sarahmartinezjournals  5 років тому

      I think you have a good thing going! I have a hobo cousin I’m using as a journal and the dates serve as an index, like you suggested! My commonplace book didn’t work out 😂. I deconstructed it for now until I feel like I have a need for a separate book again. At least these systems are flexible for our ever-changing preferences!
