    There was a driver change at Therapia Lane and the second driver insisted on closing the blind. Sorry for the sketchy video from that point!

    The engine sound reminds me a lot of the Type T Metro trains of Vienna when they still had GTOs. I miss that sound.

      I remember in the 80's it taking 1 hour to get to Croydon on the bus during rush hour.
      Now it takes 15 mins regardless of the time of day.
      Yes more Trams are needed.

    Greetings from France. Very nice video! Back in 1971 I was in secondary school and stayed in Caterham during Easter break, we used to go to London by bus and would pass by Waddon Marsh HALT, then a rail station, quite funny to see it as a tram stop now!

    Such a pity the blinds came down after Waddon Marsh. Actually, some of this route follows the earliest railway namely the Surrey Iron Railway built in 1820. The carts were hired and were pulled by horses. I travelled the British rail train from Wimbledon to West Croydon which more or less follows the tram route.

      we have in the bay area of San francisco and the surrounding areas a tram system called BART Bay Area Rapid Transit, and the funnest things for the kids is to be able to watch through the doors window of where the operator sits , but like here, then they always tend to eithr hang their jacket or whatever totally blocking the view....

    totally agree, theres no aws to remind drivers of the severe speed reduction just coming out of the tunnel at 13.57, why dont they have speed limit boards at the side of the track? surelt its gotta help on the slow bends if there was a board displaying the max speed limit just before the bend, just like u have on the railway,

    • @Otacatapetl
      @Otacatapetl 7 років тому +2

      I've noticed that, as you come out of the tunnel, the oncoming track in the distance helps to kid you that the line goes straight on. A new or inexperienced driver (or one who's just half asleep) could make a mistake.

    • @paulbb27
      @paulbb27 7 років тому +1

      We call it a tramway (and the units are trams) here in the UK. Technically its classed as light rail tramway. Most systems running today in the UK are of that type. Germans called it Strassenbahn, or "street train" as it is a light rail unit that shares some level of running on the road with road traffic, such as the Berlin and Cologne (Koln) systems.

      Im in training right now at Croydon Tramlink. They usually advertise around twice a year for drivers and have just taken down their advertisement so it may not be for a while yet. You don’t need any qualifications in particular, although you need a full UK drivers licence. You need to pass assessments, such as a concentration test, an interview and a medical. Hope that helps.
