Yes you must fight the urge to cuddle them with every fibre of your being. It’s hard but it must be done.
I got a new cat from the vets office after mine had died. She had been thrown from a balcony and was SO afraid. They needed a safe place for her so I adopted her. It’s been five months and, although Baby seems to be doing better, she sleeps under the covers of my bed all day long. Eventually she’ll come out in the evening and interact some with me but I’ve never had a cat like her. I’m not sure if she’s hiding or if it’s normal for her. She’s definitely afraid of any one who comes to the door and other noises. I hope I can help her adjust to her new life.

My cat is actually very fond of other cats.. It’s just his previous owner locked him inside a tiny bathroom for the first 3 years of his life. He was living in his own feces. I don’t know if we’ll ever be able to make more “friendly” but I’m just very glad we saved him
I adopted a cat from Cats Protection at the beginning of July. She is a 13 yr old Tortie, and little was known about her previous life. I hadn't had a cat for over 20 years! She was extremely shy and nervous at first, but, nearly 4 months later, she is just starting to relax. There's quite a way to go yet, but I can see the progress that has been made. As frustrating as it was for the first couple of months, I wouldn't trade her for the world!

I adopted a shy kitten and the only time I have to physically pull him out is when he has to eat or go to the litter box. He's so shy, he doesn't even do that on his own. But wish me luck!

Just got a new cat, She is super nervous and behaving like dog, She's sticking her tounge out and breathing heavily and running around the house like she was chased by a ghost, it's just only few hours with her and I almost already give up on her lol
I have a cat who is so scared she trimbles. I got her first,then i got my second cat. When i first got her she was pretty shy but she started coming around. After i got my second cat she went back to being scared of humans. She loves the second cat tho. She lets him groom her and they play together as well. But when i try being social with her she starts running to her hiding spot. Sometimes it really hurts my feelings. I just want her to know i love her and i want her to be a happy kitten. I think she was miss treated in the past tho. Half her ear is cut off.

My kat bonded with me very fast lol all it took was some food and he was already on my lap sleeping lol
I don't have trouble with other cats coming into my house. I have no cat flap. Oliver is an indoor cat and is scared of everyone except me. If anyone comes to the door he runs and hides. This causes problems at the vets as he is so scared.

I don’t know how to get him to relax he is always so alert and just not secure.

Hiya I have a cat that came to us a kitten she was a stray. We’re moving home soon.. Do they also pick up on anxious behaviour with their human? I’ve never been able to pick her up. I could do with some advice around how to make the house move easier as we only have a few weeks left. I’m also worried that she run away. Please help. There was a lot of info here.
I brought a shy shelter kitten/cat home to my older cats home and the male is attacking the kitten/cat female. Iw would like to try to put her in her own space, such as my bedroom where my older cat used to nap all day, but I cant catch her.

Are you saying they will be like this forever? That is unacceptable. My kitten is 11 weeks and extremely shy from a feral litter.
I feel like doing this will allow the behavior to continue especially for kittens.

1 thing grandmas cat isnt scared of my grandma but she is scared of the other family bc we are unknown and shes scared and she dosnt know our sent and i do know where she sleeps bc she is abandent and she sleeps in the barn and my cat is scared of my grandma bc i sour she throwing a sharp butter knife at it but it missed and my grandmas cat has bread whit my old cat he isnt abauntend hes was lost in the Woods and i want her to breed whit my cat know but they dont Meet so well he has seen her in the barn for the first time and second out side whit her kids
