Loved the transition to Dream Buffet on Vinny saying "food", truly groundbreaking
Kirby Air Ride got absolutely destroyed in the reviews when it came out. Some of the write ups were really harsh on the quality of the graphics. And y'know what? I got it anyway because it looked absolutely mental. Every time I had friends over this got played and we had an absolute riot, more than Double Dash. I have no idea what those reviewers were even thinking.

Dude what where those people expecting from the graphics, for these motherfuckers to invent switch level graphics in the early 2000s? Air ride is one of the best looking games from that generation imo, objectively speaking.
Game reviewers are idiots. That also goes for the general public thats unable to put aside their general tastes which usually amount to diddly squat, since they’re largely unable to look at a game from a holistic POV.

One of the biggest missed opportunities is Nintendo not turning City Trial into a full-fledged battle royale.
Either do it with City Trial or Smash Run from the 3DS entry

City trial was pretty much the entire reason Air Ride was as popular as it was. Truly a shame they haven't made it a full game for Switch.

Kirby Air Ride was the dark horse of the Kirby spin-offs.
Like it’s admittedly very simple on the surface but it’s got hidden tech and complexity to it.
Plus, City Mode is far more fun than it has any right to be. Especially on Free Mode.
Kirby Air Ride is such a hidden gem. We played it all the time, despite the fact that we had a slightly buggy disc that kept getting random disc read errors. So under rated. A freaking Kirby Kart Racer.

One of the best eras of Nintendo is when they did new things with their IPs. Kirby Air Ride turned Kirby into a racing game.
also Donkey Kong Bongos, Star Fox Adventures, Wind Waker. A lot of neat changes.

My first Kirby game was 64 so from my perspective, it bothered me that we didn't get any Kirby game anything like it for a very, very long time. And even then Triple Deluxe and Robobot aren't the exact same charm.
The GameCube era was mainly n64 games with much nicer graphics

Dedede in Air Ride was fucking menace for no god damn reason, he would kick your ass and then key your car just because he felt like it. He would be the kind of guy that spam calls you just to rip a massive fart into the phone's speaker each time you picked up. Air Ride Dedede is the kind of guy to eat children. Air Ride Dedede is the type of guy who goes to a resturant, asks for the meal that takes the longest time to make, and then proceeds to dump it all in the trash the moment he gets it.

Playing Kirby Air Ride with my cousins was one of my favorite co op games to play! Crazy not as many people played it, once you got a hang of the controls it was super fun and great to mess around with new rides.
Last I checked, they made it to where you could do four players in Air Ride without everyone having to share the same screen through emulation. Definitely worth giving a try if you wanna do some multiplayer City Trial.

It's especially nice because you no longer have to witness the horrible pop-in in the formerly splitscreen City Trial.

That was already a feature in the base game, you could do 4-player over LAN if you had 4 screens, 4 gamecubes and 4 games.
@@Segab Well yeah but this is LAN, and gamecube era with it's weird co-op (looking at you four swords adventure!) was a tad annoying, don't get me wrong GameCube is still to this day my all time favorite console not with just it's games, just how as a hardware device it could handle a lot more than you'd think
For anyone wondering, the Unity quote thing isn't true. What the guy ACTUALLY said is that mobile developers who try to monetise their game, but don't use marketing tools or analytics, are idiots. Which is completely true.
This game was my childhood, I always used shadow star to destroy everyone on the track once I figured out health existed,I loved it so much
3:26 Hello, NotPawnyard here, I was introduced to this game in college by friends who played it when they were younger, being a complete rookie I ended up getting that Star by chance and loved the pyramid/triforce look of it.
Then I saw how it played. Then I learned how powerful it is at stealing items from everyone early on in the game before they could get enough speed/acceleration. Then I never lost :)
I guess it was a literal lore dump in the end.
Kirby Air Ride was my absolute JAM when I was a kid. Man, did I play that game so much. It was the first Kirby game I ever played (other than a demo of Crystal Shards I played for like two minutes at a McDonald's once). I played free mode in City Trial all the time and loved the heck out of it. Sometimes, I would jump around in the trees. Other times, I would destroy ever destructible object on the map just for the heck of it. Good times...
I don't know a lot about Air Ride but wow those CPU Kirbys are devious

Should be said that that last part was Vinny accidentally doing a really hard speedrun strat and being oblivious to it.
I have to mentiom just how nice it is that Air Ride sports tracks from the anime series.
From the Japanese version of the anime, mind you. As much as I honestly like Right Back At Ya (King Dedede canonically talks like a Texan oil baron and Nintendo will never convince me otherwise), 4Kids wrote their own soundtrack for it, and it didn't land as well as the stuff they did for the Pokémon dub.
He really needs to revisit City Trial with some friends. That and turn events on high. It will be LEGENDARY
I played this game all the time with my family as a kid we would play for hours just mindlessly just having fun and you know what I would love to do it again

the launch strip in the Air Glider minigame has a bunch of little speed boosting strips, they're the lines across the road that faintly shimmer rainbow-y, and players can use them to go faster which makes them glide farther. normally a player would have to time the boost button to hit them, but since the scooter is *always touching the ground* it just gets the boosts automatically

If you use the Bulk Star, of all things, you can actually get to the end of the stage by launching off the rail and mashing A while you're in the air.

Seeing Vinny play city trial was agonizing, yet I stayed for the whole thing. Also the swerve star is great, you just need to know how to use it.
Haven't watched the video yet, plan to later. When I saw this in my sub box, I thought from the title that it was a mod that combined both of the games concepts together and that got me really excited. Turns out my expectations were too high.
Air ride is the APEX in kirby multiplayer games, there hasn't been one that's yet tried to top it.

Anyone ever have a bunch of friends come over to your house to play Air Ride's City Trial mode that pretended to be a car dealer with all of the vehicles in the basement area of the map and talked in an accent that may or may not be racially insensitive while being said car dealer? Cause that had happened to me when this game was relatively new around the time I was six or seven.

when I first played air ride I was like 6 or so, and there was a point in the game where I swore to fuck I saw an oversized chicken of some kind running around in the city map.
Not even the most dedicated Kirby fan could tell the "Kirby:"s from the "Kirby"s from the "Kirby's"s. It's Kirby's Dream Buffet though so the title is wrong
