The GS Cherry Blossom is my all-time favorite Grand Seiko. I've always loved scenes with cherry trees in bloom, so a watch with that pale pink appeals to me.
and sometimes a man uses his own words and stops repeating ready-made sentences that he has read over and over under all the Grand Seiko's videos on youtube...
I just witnessed one in person today! I’ve been selling quality made to measure clothing for 7 plus years and I’m no watch enthusiast but this watch was STUNNING on a gentleman that came into the shop for alterations on a tux . He had on a quality Burberry trench, quality trousers and black Chelsea boots a full clean sophisticated look but his watch completely caught my eye! It literally changed from white mother of pearl to a soft brilliant pink mother of pearl-esque shimmer………..I’m now wanting this watch! I’m a Cartier tank guy I’m not a watch head but this was FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!
Every single review of this model seems to echo the sentiment that you have to see it in person to fully appreciate. I already love it just from looking at the pictures and videos. I really got to see it in person someday.
@@ThePoushalno. You can find it 3k under the retail price as NEW coming from japan because Yen to USD conversion is very bad at the moment. You always see new and rarely used because people keep it
I visited a Grand Seiko dealer in Hiroshima last week and I can surely say that photos and videos are nothing able to do the dial justice. It actually looks like a layer of overlapping sakura petals. This watch is truly a sight to behold and has now become my grail watch. I’m saving up extra money so I can hopefully afford it the next time I visit Japan.
No, it’s not overrated. I maybe thought it was, until I got it in hand. It’s so much different than on pictures. For example…it’s 12.8 thick on paper, but on wrist, it wears like a 10.5 mm watch. Side note; I knock mine daily, and it does nothing except protect the case sides. I mean, how hard are you knocking your watch to be worried about sapphire crystal? Again, not even close to overrated.
@@DarkPa1adin yes, that box crystal is easily 1mm by itself. Then you take into account the thickness added by the caseback that at least partially settles into your wrist when you wear it, it ends up feeling like a much thinner watch than it is on paper
I was looking for the Snow flake watch while on my two day stop over in Singapore today. They did not have a Snow Flake, but luckily for me they had the Spring, Cherry Blossom. After seeing the watch in person, I was in love with everything about it. Very happy now I have two great Seiko watches one for swimming diving and the beautiful Spring, Cherry Blossom for fine dinning ect
I really enjoy your review, very detail and like the way you show the watch on wrist with some different clothing. Please keep up the good work, makes me want to buy this watch now.
Stunning watch, Photos or videos do not do this watch justice. I fell in love with it on Saturday while window shopping at your shop in the Manchester Arndale, my wife told me to treat myself so I bought it. I have a wonderful wife 😍
Same! But I wish I saw the Shosho too. I like the Shosho dial more but it wasn't made with titanium. It's hard to go back from titanium, it is so comfortable.
Exquisite watch, but unlike other commentators I feel that Grand Seiko and Rolex occupy different market segments, and cannot be compared directly. A GS requires more frequent servicing, which makes maintenance more expensive, Rolex offers a toughness GS can only dream about, but GS demonstrate artistry and workmanship at a level that Rolex doesn't seem interested in emulating. I have a great deal of respect for both brands.
Grand Seiko hi beat movements require more frequent servicing, but that's mainly due to the fact that it's a hi beat movement. There are plenty of people with spring drive movements going on 7+ years without service, and without noticeable impacts to accuracy
I was at the grand seiko boutique yesterday. They said out if the last 17 years, only one person brought in their grand seiko spring drive for servicing. There was nothing wrong with their watch but they just felt compelled to bring it in after ten years.
I own this watch. It truly is a dial that has to be seen in person. I have it on a blue strap from Delugs though that I think brings out the pink dial more. It is quite literally a piece of art on your wrist.
Such a beautiful watch many videos and photos cant justify the pink/silver dial, you would need to experience in person to admire the watch completely. I purchased this a few weeks ago as my very first GS and perfect for my wedding, will definitely be wearing this instead of my Explorer. The dial and super smooth movement is so mesmerising cant stop looking at it 🤩 Its light weight I have gotten use to compare to my explorer not a problem 👌 The only negative thing about this watch that not alot of video reviews talk about is the noise of the rota when shaken lightly compare to closed case back like an explorer you cant hear but this GS to be honest can be noisy when moving your wrist maybe due to the Titanium and open case back. In the end this watch is defo a keeper for the true watch enthusiast, hopefully there will be more amazing beautiful GS watches to come! 😀🤗
I have a titanium Speedmaster that also has a noisy rotor movement. I hadn't considered that titanium would be a factor...an interesting thought. None of my other watches have this noticeable rotor sound, except a first generation Seiko Kinetic I own, a much cheaper watch. Come to think of it, my Seiko Prospex baby Alpinist is very quiet, so I doubt price is a factor.
@@jim.travis.youtube Glad its not just my titanium GS that has a noisy rota, at first I thought my brand new GS had a loose ball bearing and even went on other GS forums to see if anyone has the same problem... but spoken to my AD and he said it's perfectly normal for it to be noisy due to the open case back and titanium he even tested out other GS watches and do make a bit of sound. Its quite ironic how the rota is noisy when moving the wrist but when station and trying to listen to the watch itself beating has no sound at all due to the spring drive 😅 (no ticking noise compare other automatic watches). But at this price point you would think they can make it less of a sound with the rota 🤔 ... btw I have a Seiko Alpinist too (white artic dial) one of my favourite watches but got stolen kinda miss it 😔
Im my opinion, Grand Seiko missed the chance to knock the SBGA413 out of the park. The second hand is Silver, It should of been Red. I passed on this watch and purchased the SBGA415. The Winter edition with it's second hand of Blue. Blue represents cold. Winter is cold. Even the SBGA211, "The Snowflake" has a Blue second hand.

You ask why the raised dial: I've seen it said that allows them to push the dial up and out for better viewing. A flatter crystal would push the dial back.
I have a feeling that the spring drive movement is rather thick. I don't think they can fit a crystal, hand stack, dial, movement, and case back in a form that is much thinner than what they've made here. The thinner spring drive watches are all hand wind.
I have the sbga413. It is a special watch. Videos and photos don't do it justice. I believe the case is a recreation of a 62 GS? The box crystal sits above the watch. Perfect. It is a retro look with a killer dial and spring drive. Hooked on GS. Just bought the sbga429. Put it on the leather band it came with. It is a very nice watch also. Handsome! It is around $1300 to $1600 less than the cherry blossom. Same spring drive. The uniqueness of the retro case...box crystal....and dial on the sbga413 make it worth the extra cost. Why no snowflake? I have a sarx055. Close enough for me. Way under valued watch!
@@chif123 I bought white birch however the accuracy of the movement doesn’t satisfy me and I decided to sell it. If I buy a GS in future it d be shunbun from second hand most probably
The "extra" height of the box sapphire is needed because there's no bezel - GS mounts the crystal directly into the case. I have the SBGP017, which I think has the same dial but with a subtle blue tint rather than pink, and it's has the same effect: it looks white until you get it under bright lights or, better yet, outdoors in sunlight. Gorgeous watches - I'd love to have both of them as a set, although I'd have a hard time deciding which to wear!
It has shorter lug to lug for my thin wrist, the 62GS modern reinterpretation is out of the ordinary and it has a slight pink. Hue. Both are titanium. Both are light.
None of GS watches are overrated. The whole brand itself is underrated by those who still hold on to the notion that Swiss watches are superior to Japanese watchmaking.
I too was wondering why they didn't use the same style of case and glass as the snowflake, I suspect/reckon they used the domed sapphire crystal glass for the 413, to allow light to hit the dial at angles that allow for that pink cherryblossom hue to manifest itself. In direct sunlight, the dial looks is more white in rendition.
make sure you buy used. These GS watches don't hold value. It doesn't have anything to do with quality-people just don't see value at the prices they charge. They're a good deal 35-50% off retail. Similar to many Omega watches.
Beautiful watch for sure. Luckily my favorite jeweler finally got GS in their shop so I was able to directly compare this watch to the winter version, the SBGA415. I was in love with the Cherry Blossom from seeing it in images and online but in person, it unfortunately was a bit too bland for me. I wish it would be more pink more often. The dial is incredible, but when I compared it to the Winter, which has the same dial pattern but with the blue accent of the second hand, it won me over. Just my two cents. GS makes incredible watches but they really need to be seen in person if you are considering buying one!

The reason why Taro Tanaka chose a box sapphire for the crystal is it invites more light into the dial making it more legible.
