  • It's one of the most untapped cheat codes in the Kingdom -- but it's also one of the most misunderstood. What does it truly mean to pray in the spirit? Where does it talk about tongues in the Bible? And by using it, how can we partner with the Holy Spirit to fight our enemy on a whole other level?

    This message challenged me and convicted me of mocking the language of the spirit. What a gift, we have been given. This opened my eyes to view it afresh. Thank you so much Pastor Preston. May God keep and bless you and your family.

    Thank you for this message! I grew up in a denomination that didn’t understand praying in tongues and because of that I never understood it. Knowledge really is power. I have been asking the Holy Spirit for this gift and I let him take full control over my tongue today. It was confusing but beautiful. I am so excited to start this journey of praying on another level to my Father. This Holy Spirit series has really touched me.

    I used to have a lot of opinions around praying in a heavenly language. But when I yielded my opinions and my tongue to the Spirit a few years ago, it was transformational. What happened in my heart and my mind and how it truly strengthened me and awakened other giftings and strengths within me is undeniable.

    In the past year, I have seen people proclaim they have these gifts but attempt to shut others down which has drawn me away from seeking this gift. Thank you for this message as while I spend most of my day in prayer for my family, clients, and community, I feel that I am falling short of God’s will or anointing for my life. I was guided to this message for a reason this morning and I am grateful to take another step closer to what eternity with Him holds!

    My God! He used you on this one for sure!! The presentation of this sermon was so beautiful!! I've been really wrestling with this topic. I've seen it turned into a mockery and I wanted to stay far away from that to the point that I have created a block in my mind about it. My prayer is that God tears that block down and I would appreciate it if y'all would join me in that prayer as well. I'm sure that's😊 the piece I've been feeling I'm missing. There is absolutely nothing mysterious about Biblical "tongues" - and there is only *one* type - when referring to something spoken, they are nothing more than real, rational language(s); usually, but not always, unknown to those listening to them, but always known by the speaker(s) - it’s their native language (in some cases, it is a language the speaker has learned).
    _Nowhere_ in the Bible is modern tongues-speech advocated or evidenced.
    ‘Tongues’ (read, *‘languages’* ) - the divine gift, is the God/Holy Spirit given ability to effortlessly learn to speak and be understood through real-language barriers. It is not xenoglossy (as many people incorrectly assume), nor is it the self-created non-cognitive non-language utterance of what certain Christian denominations are producing today (modern tongues-speech).

      It is good wisdom to do simple teaching if it is someone new so that if they are not acquainted with tongues they are put at ease when it happens.

  • @shahnbarse5818
    @shahnbarse5818 Місяць тому +6

    My problem with the claim of speaking in tongues is that scripture clearly states that they should be interpreted. This means that it can be understood. There is no scriptural evidence for a language coming out of you that you can’t understand. At that point it is just babble speech.

    • @shahnbarse5818
      @shahnbarse5818 Місяць тому +2

      I want to clarify that I’m not a cessationist. I also still love Preston and believe he has a lot of spiritual wisdom. This is just something that I believe hurts the church more than helps. Babble speech is just a placebo. I grew up in charismatic churches, so it’s not like I’m just an outsider speaking on something that I didn’t experience. Jesus only prayed in known language. When asked how to pray Jesus didn’t mention any sort of prayer language. Only a reach of interpretation of Paul’s words have people believing the lie that there is a secret language that we can’t understand.

    • @prestonmorrison4094
      @prestonmorrison4094 Місяць тому +6

      Love your perspective. 1 Cor 14 covers both corporate use AND private use. Paul saying he would rather use words people understand in public, shows what he prefers in private. He also makes clear that a believer is personally strengthened when praying in tongues.
      LOVE the way you’re trying to approach the conversation.
      Also, Romans 8:26 covers the “babble”.

    • @shahnbarse5818
      @shahnbarse5818 Місяць тому +2

      I feel like we’re interpreting different things from the same scripture though. When I read Romans 8:26-27 I see “too deep for words” as meaning that it’s too great to describe. It doesn’t say “too deep for human words” so even if there were a language of heaven then shouldn’t it be too deep for those words as well?
      I’m also seeing explanation in 1 Corinthians 14:21 that shows that “tongues” is clearly speaking about the different languages of men.

    • @prestonmorrison4094
      @prestonmorrison4094 Місяць тому

      Totally get where you’re coming from. I’m connecting what Paul is talking about in Ro 8:26 to what Paul refers to in 1 Cor 13:1.

    • @shahnbarse5818
      @shahnbarse5818 Місяць тому +1

      1 Corinthians 13:1 is the closest scripture to backing up the idea of a heavenly language. I would argue against that though. I would argue that Paul is just making a statement based on traditional cultural beliefs at that time. In the 1st century it was common belief that angels had their own languages just like humans did. For Paul to use the words “tongues of men and of angels” is simply covering all known languages, and not some sort of secret language. God is not the author of confusion. Why would He confuse us with a language that we can’t understand? The gift of tongues was actually the opposite. It was reversing the confusion of languages that happened at Babel. It was bringing understanding to something that was previously confused.
