I heard this episode about 8 mths ago and I loved it, the way it was written was so original and just think guys n girls it was aired 70yrs ago!!!! To me that's amazing that it still has the power to make u think and in a very very mild way even scare u!!! Brilliant stuff and such a great programme!!!
I discovered old time radio plays in '74 ( I was 19). Been a fan ever since. This particular episode is one of my all time favorites! Fun & a little scary!
surprised how well Ralph Edwards did - yes he was playing a radio announcer - but it's hard to even play yourself convincingly - his performance kept the story rolling along - with a humorous touch
+Mary Wilder The man doing the commercials and announcing was Harlow Wilcox, who was also the announcer/pitchman for the popular comedy show: "Fibber McGee & Molly". In that show he and his pitch for Johnson's Floor Wax was included as part of the program ... often to the chagrin of Fibber McGee (Jim Jordan).
I remember hearing this late at night when Larry Glick would play special Old Time Radio on Halloween on WBZ in the 70's. It's great to listen to on a dark windy night.
Oh those were the days. I had been listening to Larry Glick from my home in Newton, Massachusetts since 1964 (when I was 10 years old) when he was originally on WMEX Boston way down the end of the dial. He later moved to WBZ. Boston. Especially nice on those hot summer nights (with no AC in the house) summer vacations my brother and I would listen till he went off the air early in the morning.
Wire recorder was the forerunner of the ribbon tape recorder. Wire recorders used just that, wire instead of tape. Ever see a movie I think called ,The Red Skull? Their is a wire recorder used in one scene. They talk about wiping off what's on the recorder instead of eraceing it. Would like to see one.
Animals are able to sense a great deal more than we humans give them credit for in detecting such things we have not even an awareness exists, even their sense of smell (and probably vision) is amazing as are the German Shepherd dogs in detecting illegal drugs from quite a distance off.

I absolutely loved this episode. A great one to listen to with the lights off!
Have you tried listening to the original "LIGHTS OUT" radio show with the lights out?
I love how these always tend to scare me just as much as anything modern or with pictures can. Such a great show!

Those were the nights, listening in the dark at bed time (early '50s) & w Larry G.

This great production really brings the story to life! It appeared in the 25th Anniversary issue of "Weird Tales" magazine, March, 1948.
OMG!!!!! Is this the first instance of found footage horror? If it isn't, its definitely one of the first. Its kind of amazing to think about💯💯💀👏👏👏
👻
Ralph Edwards who is the primary actor in this episode later hosted "This is Your Life" television program.
Found Footage! Nice!
Always loved the spooky theme music by Bernard Herrman.
Bernard herrman composed the theme of the movie, psycho. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
At the time, the series was on CBS' Thursday night schedule at 9pm(et). Paul Frees was the other announcer.
ANOTHER great one, lights out cover up & listen no dozing here 🤗
Nothing like having the lights out with these shows.
I wonder if the writer's of Blair Witch were influenced by this show? Great episode !
I always feel that all the new stuff these days has come from something before. Can't say anything is a new idea. Why there are so many remakes.
Ralph Edwards was both a great actor and announcer. He is best known as the host of "This Is Your Life" for decades.
Fantastic.. that was brand new to me.
Such fun: like being a kid back in 1949: being cosy in your own abode with a cup of cocoa and "her" = a slice of easily-pleased heaven!
Yes!
i want new sparkplugs
Aren't AUTO-LITE products still made? Jay Leno mentions them quite often on his car museum shows.
Me to

Smoking L&M , Chesterfields Getting 💩 Face With Roma Wine 🍷🍷🍷😮💨🚀🪐. Great OTR. Thank You ❤❤❤

Yes, they still make Auto Lite spark plugs. 😎
Must be good is they have lasted this long.
This one's new to me, creepy! Wish it were a longer story 🤣🤣
This scared the crap out of me as a kid!!
Not now? Ha! Thanks for listening!
this is one of the best
Halloween OTR has some of the best holiday themed shows. Thanks for listening!
There were so many good ESCAPE episodes. "A Shipment of Mute Fate" and "The Second-Class Passenger" are also 2 of my favorites.
OMG! I'll always thought this was Red Skelton. ☺️👍
Bravo!
Great Show! Thanks for listening Jeremy!
Suspense was one of a kind. If you like eerie stories, let me recommend "The Gables" on YT. Here's the link:

Claudio de Rochefoucault Thank you so much for the recommendation! Wonderful stories on that channel!
You're welcome. I'm glad you didn't mind being contacted about them. More to come...eventually...
That is Paul Frees doing the opening narration. Harlow Wilcox narrates the AuTO-LITE advertisements.

Dude - i had a radio exactly like that one. Didnt work but it was cool.
Awesome! Would still use it at least to modify. It would look great in a house as a conversation piece.
Wee hours of the night, Saturday October 19th /20th , 2019.
Happy Hallowe'en season !
Can't wait! Next two weeks of listening to these shows and watching old horror movies. Happy Halloween! 🎃
@@OTRHALLOWEENHOLIDAZE
Best. Season. Ever.
@@CharlieOkeson I can't argue that. 🎃
Edwards would have made a fortune doing UA-cam commentary. He would have cleaned PewDiePie's clock.
Need more people today like him.
@@OTRHALLOWEENHOLIDAZE I do thank you for downloading this.
@@saran3214 I Thank you for listening. Will be uploading more types of these shows almost daily.
I love this.I owned a copy.
The music isn't as creepy as I remember, but it's still great.
Still has a creepy vibe!
*”TO THE CLIFF!”*
at the end - " he didn't have a r e d beard ! " haha
I've heard thus so many times I'll pass. But it's a honey of,a horror story.
