This was my first lesson on hiedenhain, I cant wait to learn more .
The reason im studying it is because its a dream of mine to own a kern cnc machine . I learned they use the hiedenhain controller.
I cant afford one yet but it won't be long .
I will subscribe and watch more in the future.

We have DMG with this style controller and it is a fuckin pain in the ass. The controller interface is convoluted and seems clunky compared to other machines. Maybe its just ours, but if you dont put one leg in the air, spin around 3 times counterclockwise with one finger on your nose while touching your right heel to your left toe.. well you get what im trying to say. It will go out of wack (the machine itself) and you will have to do a bunch of reset processes to reorient the machine so certain components are covering the correct sensors. and it is way to easy to delete important stuff. and there are three separate command keys you use at different times that do a similar simple task like the enter key on your computer and if your not paying attention and the wrong enter key at the wrong time it will allow you to continue forward with unprocessed info which can result in a crash. its not idiot proof just a heads up

Bless. You've misunderstood. But thank you for your comment. Let me clarify.
    1. This isn't a maker space. It's an engineering training centre that for the past 20 years has been knocking out lots of well trained apprentices trained in both CNC and manual machining that are provably fit for the job.
    2. I agree about starting from 0% feed when running a job. Obviously. No one likes expensive crashes.
    3. This is a startup routine. The control basically traverses and hits all the limit switches. Our machine's control actually throttles feed rate for traversing axes during startup to around 20%. If you turn down to 10% then the traversing will take about 10 minutes. I know this because I have done it. It's unnecessary and a waste of time.
    4. As it happens this machine doesn't have a variable spindle as it's retrofitted. The spindle is either on or off and speed is controlled via the gear box. In this particular instance it makes no difference.
    5. I can accept that perhaps at the end of the video I should maybe have added "now turn all speeds and feeds to 0" but I'm not about to pull down a video with ~10k views. I'd disagree with a comment that this video is misleading in anyway.
    6. I don't doubt you're knowledgeable but ranting into the internet about dumb makers and "noobs" (really?!) when you don't have all the facts is a bit embarrassing. Nor is it polite. The world isn't divided into "you" and "idiots who know less than you". There are more effective ways to have a discussion on the internet.
    7. Thanks for the comment on the video. Your comment signals to UA-cam that this video encourages interaction as a result it'll be served to more people and I'll receive increased ad revenue. Much appreciated.

Thank you - I've just bought a 5-axis CNC with Heidenhain controller and was due to get professional training this week but due to the Corona Virus outbreak this has been put on indefinite hold. Your quick tutorial has helped me - but I've still a long way to go!!

    Hi
    I hope you are good.
Sorry to disturb you i got inspired to visit your profile.
Are you also a cnc machine operator.
I am from pakistan and also looking for a job

I dont know if you still monitor this channel but i am desperately tryong to find a set of parameters for an old XYZ milling machine similsr to this. Uses the TNC355. Do you have a parameter list i could have?

Sadly not - have you tried contacting heidenhain directly?

Yes no joy. Parameters are specific for the machines themselves. I contacted xyz no joy either. Do you still have the machine in the video? Parameters from that would help. Thanks.

Afraid not, I left my position in that college nearly six years ago!

0:40 This is the worst bit of advice I have ever heard of regarding Heidenhain startup.
Every teacher, every Heidenhain service engineer and every decent operator knows that you should set the feed potentiometers to 0% first, make sure the spindle is nowhere near anything to crash into, hit cycle start and then SLOWLY turn up the feed rates to 100% or whatever.
Same goes if you want to move with rapid feed from a critical position: Feed potentiometer down to 0, press rapid feed button, and then SLOWLY crank up the speed.
If you just hit cycle start with feed at 100% you might crash into something because you never know how the machine behaves at start.
As for the spindle override, if you have no tool in the spindle you can set it to 100%. If you got a large tool loaded and your machine has got a spindle with a high RPM rating, either unload the tool before starting the spindle, or set your spindle speed as low as possible (machine set RPM and potentiometer)
Just goes to show how ill-informed "makers" are, noobs teaching noobs how to operate machines the WRONG way....
