The notchy manual can be transformed by replacing the transmission fluid with Redline MTF or Amsoil MTF. Suddenly you have a stellar box with all the involvement. Winner throughout.
Have to agree... All the standard models I wouldn't pick the BMW. But for the top of the range? I'd pick the M135i and M235i over it's rivals A45/CLA45 and S3 sportsback/Sedan. The inline6 engine is just so much better for the daily drive.
Owned my manual M135i for ecxactly a month now and loving every minute. Refinement in the car is incredible being near silent on motorway drives - if anything, the car is too refined requiring an irritatingly large amount of ASD to hear what the enging is doing... I commute into London in eco pro mode and don't have to exceed 2k rpm up to 50mph, yet when I hit country lanes, a quick switch to sport with the adaptive suspension and it's like driving a different car. It's a truely versatile machine, just make sure you ditch those run flats for Pilot Super Sports! Traction control can be incredibly intrusive in sport mode and I must say the manual gear box has it's moments but it does get very, VERY clunky at times.
don't like the silver trim on the dash above the glove compartment, internal door handles and around the gear leaver boxing. should be gloss black. also Lsd should be standard on these.
I used to have the Audi A3 but sadly I had a lot of problems with the Diesel engine all after the three year warranty run out so I got myself a BMW 118i and it was the best thing I did, in 5 years I have had a broken boot lock and a heater fan that found its self stuck on, but all fixed under warranty, so for me it's a big fat no to another Audi you never do forget a £1500 engine repair bill even after 5 years.
If I was going for a car with this streetrace potential, I defenetly would take the manual gearbox. But I guess I am old fashioned. Never was a big 1 fan and this one isn't going to change that, but I must say the facelift is an improvement. Like the red leather interior too, but I wonder what that extra option may have costed...

The BMW dealer in Portugal, Caetano Retail of V.N.Gaia assumes no liability despite all the revisions being made religiously in the mark and the problem is notoriously a manufacturing defect. I intend to solve the problem according to the premium service with which I have always been accustomed by BMW.
No one buy an m135i for a relaxing drive I didn't buy mine to relax I got it to thrash the life out of it, the auto is brilliant and the practicality is great, I average 27mpg all around town.
I personally do not like the 3 series but I like the 1 series. If I would to buy a sedan I will buy a 5 series or a SUV. My first car would be this or Mazda CX-5?
Fang-Zhou Jiang a lot of big car reviewers agree, I've always owned manual cars, I've drove autos at work but this is the first auto car I've owned and the gearbox is brilliant. its the same gearbox as the f type r and range rover sports etc

Alter Biggest con is FWD's inability to handle large amount of horsepower. In a RWD car, the front wheels are meant for steering the car, the rear wheels are meant for driving the car. In a FWD car, the front wheels have to do both (steer and drive), and they can handle only a certain limit of power before they go crazy. That's why you don't see any of the supecars being FWD.
+Alter There's more...... FWD are more prone to understeer than RWDs.... They're also harder to maintain ground on a slopy hill or steep road. RWD does this better. PUSHING >>>> PULLING. With RWD there's more feel and commnuication, also, you can drift easier and you're going to turn sharper. And like nphung01 said, they can handle more HP. If you put a lot of HP on a FWD car, what often happens is 'torque steer', you go in a straight line, but if you let go of the steering wheel it turns out of itself. A Ford Focus RS (FWD, 300hp) often had that characteristic for example. The next big thing is that you can corner better with your right foot using RWD, meaning, that you can use the gas pedal to correct the turning in of a car by either lifting off the gas or pushing more of it sicne the power goes to the back wheels, meaning that more or less of the aft of the car will move to either push you more to the inside or to save you from oversteer (whcih often is what happens iwth RWD). AWD's have more grip. But RWD is the biggest fun because you can lose and regain that grip easily.
This girl doesn't tell us anything about the driving characteristics of the car - nor any detailed technical information. Perhaps she should be telling us all about Fiat 500s and the like.

when you hear, that the reviewer just talks about "rivals" with front wheel drive and so on, you understand that the reviewer didn't read a book about the car or even researched. The BMW 1 series at the end of the last models age did sell better than any other car, it also became sold out because of the DTM-Package, but of course that wasn't mentioned...

I've owned a fiesta, a golf, a 1 series, audi a3 and now an audi q5. with all those cars, i normally buy them when they are 3 yr old ( cars in uk loose half of its value on the first 3 years) with all those cars, I've had the most problems with 1 series, 4 mechanical issues in first year of owning it and a leaking rear door flooding the back seats (the car was 3 years old with 22k miles. My trusted mechanic of 12 years to advised me to sell it as everytime i bring it for repairs and has been fixing 1 series a lot lately and said they are not reliable cars, he would see bits and pieces about to break like rubber seals and stuff. a rubber seal can cost you £300-£500 on labor as everything you do with the one series is you have to take it all apart. I've had a fiesta that had minors issues but cheap fix, a golf for 4 years and no issues at all, an a3 is the same, but with my bmw is so much hassle unless you buy it from brand new with warranty, otherwise stay away from a 1 series. Issue i had was failed coil pack, then coolant leak which eventually became a bad coolant leak, rattling turbo, leaking rear doors, squeeking steering wheel, needed to replace the whole steering rack. the issues showed up in my first 8 months of ownership, after that I've lost confidence on the car having own a golf and never had a problem, if felt like i was going to break every 2 weeks. didn't wanna drive anywhere far as so worried id break down on a 3 year old 22k miles car. So never again will i buy a bmws. It sucks as they've always looked really nice and always wanted to own one but never again will i buy a bmw
sorry to say this, but for me its not good enough car review....you should show more emotions etc. more sound of a wounderfull 6-cylender motor of a 135 bmw. you done it like it was a baby-car for your next child, not a super duper BMW power performance which we all used to see :) i think this kind of review is more situable for car brands like VOLVO or other

Rear wheel drive is so much better to drive. Who cares about the rear passengers. Even the 120i is a blast. The steering is precise. Forget Merc or Audi. Handling is everything. BMW got it wrong. Beemer owner wants rwd.

Enjoyed the content. The unnatural delivery was off-putting though.
