The Tinks really work their voodoo with S-Video. I thought my Dreamcast looked amazing with S-Video and even though I upgraded to a Scart cabe I'm keeping it around
Probably not worth the effort for somebody like Voultar to make a mod for this rare console. Graphics are a huge deal for me. It's like first-contact with a game. A game doesn't have to look super complicated, just clean and precise with no blur. I love NES RGB on my modded console.
@@VideoGameEsoterica Any chance of a video tutorial? Or, if not, maybe some quick advice: Tsugari or Unz? Run it standalone or run from a front end like ESDE?
S-video can look quite nice, my PS2 connected to a 27" Orion consumer CRT has only slight color bleed, and barely noticeable cross talk. It sounds like? the Marty is borked by a poor quality color transcoder. Has anybody clarified why RGB could not be tapped from the video signal? Lastly, how does Splatterhouse compare to the Mister core with the 4K improvement? Cheers.
I'm so glad you made this video. I have a Marty and was always bothered by the off center image. I honestly thought there was something wrong with it. Never considered it was a "feature" of the hardware.
I think youtube blocked my last comment so I'll ask more simply. Since you brought up the Marty here would you be interested in a PCE Works copy of Rayxanber? No cost btw, PCE Works gave this one to me as a freebie years ago but I have no way to use it with no plans to get a Marty either. It's apparently really hard to find an original release copy and this might make for good material for future Marty videos if you'd like.
I wanted a Marty for years but honestly, I think I’ll just enjoy videos like yours and let it go….seems like a system that would cost me a fortune then do nothing but piss me off! Bit like the Atari Jaguar I own one but never use it as I think its games suck in the most part
@@VideoGameEsoterica yeah would be a cool piece to own as part of a collection but looks like all the games can be played in a better form elsewhere, either superior ports on newer hardware or via MiSTer…well the arcade type games I’m into at least
I noticed the flickering sprites in Splatterhouse are processed incorrectly, with some significant interlacing artifacts. Is that true on an original TV, too? If not, that might be something to talk to Mike Chi about.
I really hate the video output on the marty as well, it's so bad I can never bring myself to play it. I also have a 20f tower and it can output RGB and the difference is stark, its a bit of a faff if you dont have a tri sync monitor. I have mine passed through a GBS Control down scaled to a PVM, looks great. So on the FB FM Towns group some very clever person has found out the Marty encodes video in component at 640x480 I think a mod might be in the works and there might possibly be a HDMI mod. Things have been a silent though on that front.

What are the output resolutions the Marty can do? It’s a bummer that some of those early 32 bit consoles cheaped out on crappy signals. Same with PC FX. And since they were sold in such small quantity there isn’t any good RGB mods for them either :-(
Glad to see you recover the Marty! I really want a MiSTer core so I can retire my Marty. It's soooooo esoteric lol. And tinker-y. My Doc Brown + The Thing combo is such a pain.
Great video 👍🏾 been watching your steam deck emulator videos and helped me alot on setting up my roms. I wonder if u could make a video on how to correctly setup an fm towns + towns marty emulator for steam deck if possible?!? Lol thanks for all the content!
