That sway control ball is what - 5" off center? Hard to imagine that 5" of leverage is going to control the sway on a multi ton trailer that has 20' or 25' of leverage ...
I live in Albuquerque as well. I am having all kinds of problems and CW is NOT helping at all. They did not set up the hitch right on my truck and I don’t know what to do! Is there anywhere in our area I can take it too for some help? Thanks so much

It should not squeak. You don't need it that tight to reduce sway.
How tight should you make it?
I agree should be tight. But when i have to make a 90 degree turn i get dsh dsh dsh dsh jarring noise. Maybe too tight?
Yea, if it is too tight the trailer will try to steer the truck. Too tight and it will drive the truck and be the opposite of sway. You have to experiment with the tension. But... yes, if it is moaning, it is working.
This ONLY applies to Ancient "pig type " trailers not the more modern "dog trailers". It astounds me that van and trailer manufacturers add "features" and do not unload the ball on the vehicle which is a majour brake and instability issue, and make the trailers "weight distribution sensitive". About time the industry caught up with some modern tech to negate the down fall of ALL "pig type" trailers.
The noise is a binding noise. And I l learned that you do not make tight corners and do not back up.
Sooo is yours really loud during turns? If yes is this this normal? We freaked it as soon as we turned into the camp grounds, it wasn’t a sharp turn really.
Thanks. I find it bizarre that the MFR says to tighten the handle all the way down, then use the bottom nut for adjustment. I've seen a few videos now that do exactly the opposite, and even though you didn't say it, that's what you demonstrated, and that's how I'll be doing it. Tighten the bottom nut then use that bar to adjust the tension.

I haul a heavy cargo trailer and I crank the handle tight as well for the highway use
