Pictures depict properties being boarded up in preparation for the two-day event, expected to draw 2 million people this weekend, sparking questions about whether the event should be relocated entirely.
Former Met Police detective Peter Bleksley joins Talk’s Jeremy Kyle to discuss this further.

I walked past a lone shoe a blooded top and pavement the other week, we don’t even have loads of teenagers hanging around here unless they thought let’s just terrorise this area now. This is what me and my best friend actually said about putting it in Hyde Park 10 years ago, he’s a retired policeman and we both sat down and had the same conversation. We actually said it should even be banned. Why are they coming into an English nation and celebrating another countries Carnival because it is really now, I kind of all of death. How long is it going to be until the police officer has murdered at the carnival of people not learned from that for a policeman that was killed in the Brixton riots all those years ago. But the police have to stop celebrating pride marches, my heart absolutely breaks for the police. You have no idea because I gave up everything in Scotland to become one and when I did finally train as one because I refused to go down the same sex route my life was turned on its head. I suggest the police were ridiculously "robust" in the case of the recent protest/riots.
When I lived in Los Angeles, I used to enjoy frequent trips to London because I felt so much safer there. Early morning runs through Hyde Park and I didn't worry about being robbed or attacked. I saw old ladies out walking their dogs. If there were police, I didn't fear them, because I was used to much more aggressive American police armed like soldiers (with the mindset of an occupying army). Those were the days. The British didn't know what they had and they threw it all away to become a Third World nation. I'll never visit the UK again not for fear of my physical safety, but because I'm a white man and we are quite evidently not welcome there. I don't want to get banged up in a British prison for saying the wrong thing to the wrong person. Suppose I have a quarrel with one of the protected class (we know who they are)? It's the same reason I don't travel to other Third World countries: there is no expectation of an impartial justice system.

I served in the Met for 10 years from 1979 and attended many Nottingham Hill Carnivals over that time. I was always on a standby public order team each time and we were usually located at a school which also served as a first aid centre. I was disgusted by the number of family men who turned up injured with their wife and kids having been robbed. After dark, we always deployed with shields to deal with the public disorder that took place. And yet, it was always reported to have been an excellent family day thus attracting even more unsuspecting victims the following year.
During briefings, officers patrolling the carnival were usually told to turn a blind eye to the cannabis that was being smoked and to dance and appear to be having a good time and yet during the royal wedding celebrations (Charles and Diana) were briefed not to visibly join in the celebrations. Two tier policing has existed for a long time.
