I bought the exact one when I was very young circa 1974 on my holidays Isle of Man. The entire rhythms and pitches of the laughs are completely burnt into my brain! I also took the thing apart to see the mini spinning record. Cheers for the little bit of nostalgia!
Me too! I could score it out!
Same record as used in baby dolls.
Some boy figured out, that this record works in the talking doll of his little sister. She was scared, parents angry, but it was funny.
Haha fabulous!
That's feckin' terrifying! Just imagine that going off at 2.22 am... 😂😂😂
I would love it!
@@VintageKeysStudio 😂😂😂 Rather you than me, Sir!
SHOCK THEATRE AGAIN ! The laughing bag gag is exactly what "Zacherley" had in the 60s on Ameican T V.
You are as I said a reincarnation of the dungeon vampire ghoul but now for my keyboard delight, Love....Jack
Wow haha that’s brilliant! I always knew I was different
You can also hear one of those at the beginning of ELO's "Twilight".
I just checked that out, very subtle - well spotted man!
@@NeilVanceNeilVance Thanks! (But once you've heard it, it's the loudest thing in the mix.🤣)
I just heard about this today in an interview with Trey Gunn talking about King Crimson, and Jamie Muir in particular.
As it was the same mechanism used for my Palitoy talking Dalek and Kojak walkie talkie. I was often tempted to swap the records.
Hahahaha amazing
I remember them well! My parents expressly forbade me to acquire one. I can understand why - now.
Also on Frank Zappa, "Ship Arriving Too Late To Save A Drowning Witch".
I would call it a proper pronunciation, both the inventor's and the gadget's name. Never thought the "Lachsack" comes with a real record in it. Always assumed some magnetic tape and a mini amp. So thank you for showing us the guts of this (relatively) tiny vintage device. All the best :-)!
Thank you! :)
Also used at the end of Rainbow's "Difficult to Cure" (~05:40). Or something similar.
Thanks not heard that before!
It is a diabolical laugh, isn't it? Fripp's OnlyFans announcement on April 1 could have used one. Techmoan probably has three of these. Thanks to your lifelong curiosity, we get to enjoy seeing all of the fiddly mechanism music machines you have restored!
Haha yes! Thank you! :)
Yo lo tenia
I remember it. I had a bit of a phobia of prosthetics when I was a kid, so I found it a bit repulsive in its own little bag. I also had a talking action man, which had tinted areas on the string showing where to pull it from to say different sentences. Edison manufactured a talking doll based on a similar idea all the way back then. I also remember hearing about a sex toy that was just a rubber vagina that played a crappy recording of a woman saying "f*** me! f*** me!", although I don't think it was by Edison. That was probably the last use of that technology. Someone was probably stuck with a load of them at some point. I probably would've sent them out to people anonymously.
Hahaha amazing! I would love to get hold of one of those vintage marital aids!!! It’s going to be my number one mission from now on!
I remember those, one of my mates had one, I love the idea that the voice might have been a tax inspector. I wonder how the master sound track was stored and cut?
Must have been taped and then cut on a lathe somehow
Maybe an old 78 rpm lathe?
I guess it could have been an old record lathe.
Easy Money!
The first time you hear it funny but you can get tired of it real quick, even want to stomp it at times. I think they should put Karmala's laugh on it, at high volume. 🤣 Make them before the election. I think it would sell well. Rep. would buy them for their Dem. friends.
🤣🍻 👍👽
Excellent! I've often wondered about the origin of the sound at the end of "Easy Money" by KC. Elsewhere on the same album, there is something of a mystery sound at the end of "Talking Drum". Maybe no relation to this device, but the effect is very similar, being at the end of the song. ua-cam.com/video/ZFjxKJ9G3n8/v-deo.html
Yes - the sound at the end of talking drum I think is a bunch of sped up atonal saxophones
I'm surprised its electric and not spring and governor driven.
Imagine the sound of that laugh as the spring is winding down.
