  • In 1976, Indian Creek was a little-known, dried-up, ancient riverbed in southeastern Utah. But in that year the impossible became the possible: Earl Wiggins climbed Supercrack, a 300-foot vertical sandstone fracture from the ground up. Indian Creek is now considered one of the finest international climbing destinations in the world.
Luxury Liner is the story of a bold man behind an unthinkable idea. It pairs historical footage of the first ascent of Supercrack with recent interviews that reminisce on an earlier time, when climbing necessitated fearlessness, confidence, finesse and humility.
When Wiggins's ropemates Ed Webster and Bryan Becker return to Supercrack thirty years later to share memories, they come upon wisdom: simplicity is at the heart of climbing, even today, and the audacious foolishness of the past continues to resonate into the future.
I heard Stewart Green had super 8mm film of the first ascent of Super Crack which back then Earl originally named it Luxury Liner. He was kind enough to loan me his film to get it digitized so I could make a movie out of it. After I got the footage digitized and watched it all I knew I had to make a reunion and get the climbers back to Indian Creek. Earl Wiggins passed away before I made this and Jimmy Dunn was the only climber who didn't want to come out. I filmed this in 2009 with my friend Malcolm Murray. Hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed making it. Ed Webster recently passed away. RIP Ed you were a great soul

Glad you enjoyed it. This is one of my favorites as well. I grew up idolizing these guys so when I had the opportunity to make a film with them I was so excited.

Brings back memories...climbed it in March early 90s. The crack was narrower then and we had the entire buttress to ourselves all day. I can't claim that I led it since I had to pull on gear at the crux before the crack, and I didn't have enough gear so had to back clean. Back cleaning is spooky since you are removing the string of pro below you so you don't have that backup gear. However, I did set up the toprope and flashed (climbed in good style with no falls) it a couple of times on toprope. Thank You to Earl, Ed and the whole team.

@@DrewNorthup I knew Ed many years ago when I lived in Colorado in the late 70's. He was always a pleasure to be around. I am sorry for your loss.

Hey Frank are you referring to the beginning audio or the entire film? The beginning audio is a bit lower but gets better.
