Appalachian Trail [camping] with an OPEN COCKPIT BIPLANE!

- One September weekend I flew the Hatz Biplane up to North Adams in northwestern Massachusetts for a short overnight backpacking trip along the Appalachian Trail where it passes through Mt. Greylock State Reservation. It’s a popular hiking area, not exactly remote wilderness, but it was a good easy destination to see how the plane worked for this kind of trip. Biplanes and backpacking both require you to pack light and both leave you exposed to the elements.
Most of the fly camping videos I see on UA-cam were shot in the western mountains or high desert areas. The northeast woods are quite different!
This is a wonderful way to camp out. Love your video. Brings back old memories.I envy you flying the Hertz.
Cool. I delivered my Alon Aircoupe to Chester many years ago to Lisa H. Loved camping under our wing as we crossed N America on that trip.
Nice landing
Great way to spend a weekend, flying, camping, then more flying. Awesome.
Any advice for an aspiring Hatz builder or owner? Not a pilot yet...
If you have the opportunity to learn to fly in a tailwheel plane, do it; it'll be closer to a Hatz than a more modern nosewheel plane. Lots of good info on the biplane forum (biplaneforum.com), the homebuilt airplanes forum (www.homebuiltairplanes.com) and the Hatz Association (www.hatzbiplane.com/phpBB/index.php). Hatzes periodically show up for sale on barnstormers.com.
@@DanasWings thank you for your reply! I've always loved the romance of interwar aviation. And the freedom of experimental aviation.
Has a biplane. Films with a GoPro Hero 2.
???
@DanasWings the video quality is 240p max. Get a better camera lol. Can afford a $100,000 plane. But, can't afford a $500 camera.
@@truckingandstunting8538 Must be your connection speed kicking it down, it's recorded at 1080p60. And $100k, lol, I wish.
@@DanasWings I found your video looking up your specific plane because there are 3 for sale, all over $100,000
@@truckingandstunting8538 Ha! It's not for sale, but even for half of $100K where and when do you want it delivered? 😄
