Asclepiodotus, Vegetius, and the Strategikon of Maurice were the real staple of ancient, medieval, and renaissance military thought. Vegetius and the Strategikon were required reading for British and American officers into the 1930s.

That would be interesting. It might be difficult because it’s still copyrighted, so we can probably only expect to see older works of literature (for now at least).
If you want to read the Art of War, I’d heavily recommend the James Clavell revision. It makes it easier to understand and gives historical examples with good insight.
