    Topic: SugarKelpBase
David Waring is a data curator for The Triticeae Toolbox and SugarKelpBase at Cornell University. Both databases utilize the open-source and crop-agnostic breeding management system called Breedbase, which allows breeders to manage their data in a single system throughout all stages of their breeding cycle.
    Scott Lindell
    Topic: Kelp Selective Breeding
Scott Lindell led a Scientific Aquaculture Program at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole for 15 years where he researched new methods for seaweed and shellfish farming. His R&D program over the last 7 years at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution takes a multi-disciplinary approach to practical ocean farming challenges that typically requires cooperation between commercial and academic partners. Current projects include demonstration projects for sugar kelp in Alaska, tropical seaweeds in Puerto Rico, and leading a selective breeding program for sugar kelp in New England.
More About the CARTI Seaweed Series
The CARTI Seaweed Series highlights ongoing, innovative work in the seaweed industry to inspire Canadian growers and processors to pursue new avenues in the ever-growing kelp realm. From January through to June 2023, join special guests from across the seaweed industry to hear about their work. The series consists of 15-minute talks from one or two speakers, followed by 15 minutes of questions and discussions on their work. The series was made possible due to the generous support of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC).
