A shirt with the cut test results would be sweet.... make it like a rock band concert tee shirt. Print something crazy on the front and on the back have the list made to look like tour dates.
Make the knife cutting test results graph on a shirt!!! Or a work mat. Or a poster.
Had my eye on the spydiechef for a while now... also waiting for a sprint of the Shaman, which I was surprised not to see in your list! Interesting to see your choices and hear your rationale, thanks for the vid.
Pete man you are just the coolest dude I enjoy your channel a whole lot!
The Canadian Sheepdog thanks mang, im definitely only cool in very certain ways
I'm dying every time it's over 27 deg C in the summer. Remind me never to visit Australia! Cheers from below-freezing Poland
Great list! It’s awesome to see some of the lesser known options, gunna go seek some of these out for myself
I keep telling myself that Spyderco Knives are getting too pricey and that I'm done with the brand, and then they keep releasing something that I really, really want.
They all are pretty expensive at least the MFGs I enjoy. I usually stick to only buying when on sale or discontinued/clearance. I just got 6 of the discontinued Spyderco knives the past couple weeks now. Actually 2 of them were ones he just showed. Well the Mantra 2 I got has the different blade shape I ordered this one he has too last year when they discontinued it and then I get an email back the next day they oversold that and the Pattada I ordered so I went to another site and at least got the Pattada even though it was $25 or so more on that other site. I got that Gayle Bradley Advocate too just a week or so ago and the fixed Bradley knife that was discontinued the Q Ball the Hannan and the lil sub hilt. Only Spyderco I can remember paying full price for was the Ikuchi love that knife.
Happy Australia Day mate, carrying the 4v and marbled cf manix 2 sprint today
I have monstrous hands so I prefer Endura’s to Delicas. But I’m most comfortable carrying a PM2 because of its all around oversized features, and in my opinion, the S35VN tan-scaled PM2 (especially with a Lynch clip) is one of the sexiest looking sub 200 dollar production knives currently available on the market.
With medium sized hands. PM2 is a great knife but larger than I need to carry. Para 3 is ok but the blade shape doesn't work as well for me. Native and Sage knives work for me. Sage of course is limited to S30V. Good but less interesting steel.
Great selection of Spydies Pete. I wasn't a big fan of Spyderco a while back. My opinion was that they looked too much like Dollar Store knives. But then I weakened and bought a Delica 4 in ZDP189 (purely for the steel) and my opinion changed. I've got a Salt 2 now and as I've harped on before, my next Spydie will be the Carribean.
This makes me chuckle. I think I know which dollar store knife you are referring to, and the comedy comes from the fact that the dollar store knife is ripping off the general spyderco features.
Just picked up one of the recent spydiechef batch, can't wait to break it in
Super, solid, perfect,, review of the perfect affordable high quality production knives. Good on ya!
I got a spydiechef from the recent batch and it pushed me to sell my sebenza. The chef is a great great great knife. Action is super smooth it slices really nicely, push cuts are super smooth, and it uses a great steel.
Noice walkthrough! Always appreciate comparisons, it helps in my search when there is few knifestores other than online.
And for every Dickhead Survival video you've done, I probably watched 5 more videos I normally would've skipped and so I will continue to do. So count those in! Great inspiration, and great laughs! Especially your shelters: the die-hole, stick bed and log that gave spyderhole a new meaning.
I keep coming back to the Dragonfly as a quietly awesome knife. It just works and is so easy to carry.
Spyderco is my favorite brand too. PM2 and para 3 are my favorite knives.......and if they made the military with a compression lock it'd be one of my favorite as well
looking forward to the Para 3 lightweight
it's good to see that you actually use your knives. some people just keep them in their boxes and look at them every once in a while......and then sell them when they get bored later
Good list. The Caribbean, Spydiechef and Kapora are on my top 5 list as well. I add the Yojimbo and the Lil Native.
Great selection of top 5 Spydies! Cool shirt too
I’ve bought four or five dragonflies over the years.. the green g10 was always my favorite. It’s just an excellent little knife. I like the plain stainless variant as well.
Excellent list I have the Caribbean and the Chef both great.
Love my PM2 in S110V! Its a beast of a knife without being a pry bar.
love the content you produce keep it up
Still love my Para 2
Great video as always. My top 5 is totally different.
1. Shaman (I want one in LC200N)
2. PM2
3. Native 5 Salt
4. Siren
5. Slysz Bowie
Great video as always! Thanks for sharing!
This made me even more excited for the review (probs in 6 months) of the Para 3 Lightweight in CTS-BD1N steel. Wire clip in a normal position, it lost 1 ounce, and it has nitrogen in the steel. Delica Killer?
Spyderco is my favorite knife brand. Gj mate
I be flush next week. T-shirt time! Man, you folks have been copping the heat. We've been whinging about 33 and 34 with 75% humidity. Oh, I am getting a Carribean. I really like it.
I agree... frame locks ti flippers are key to life...
I also love the Spydiechef and Dragonfly 2. However, my Manix 2 lightweight in S110V definitely gets the remaining spot in my Spyderco top 3.
Almost bought a Spydie Chef but I decided I really want a knife in CPM-M4 so I picked up the 560BK-1. Supersteel Steve loves his in S30V and his Grip in M4 performed really well so I expect good things from the Freek.
Nice list , ive handled the kapara, and the spydie chef. Both great. Got a dragonfly in xhp on the way and chapparal lw. Also.... a para3lw on order. Dammit basil has gotten control of my bank account. Nice shirts btw ill have to go take a look see.
Fun video, I love Spyderco!
You seem to appreciate the ones with good cutting edge to overall all length as I do. That is my big beef with most Spydercos including the Paras. I jumped on the bandwagon back when they started and broke a Mariner and a Police. Went to Benchmades with no complaint. Only recently bought Caribbean and Mantra. I sure like flat grinds.
The Caribbean with the sheepie blade would make a great rigging knife... just needs a marlin spike!
117 degrees F. Bloody hell, man... Thanks for staying out in the heat for us!
It got up to 97F at my house the end of Sept beginning of Oct actually high 80s through 90s for over 2 weeks straight in SC. It got to 102 at a town not far from my house. Would think it was July not the end of Sept with the temps we were having. Humid as hell too on top of it all lows at night 75-80. Have to change you're clothes every time you walk outside you get so sweaty.
Never owned one but the Gayle Bradley and 3v steel interests me, now that it's discontinued
I would have put the Caribbean at the #1 spot ❤️
Thanks for the video and the shirts!
I wholeheartedly agree with the Spydiechef as the nr 1.
I got it because of my love for the Bowie and the Techno, it makes a nice trio.
But it surprised me as an edc knife, the ultimate all round user IMHO.
I agree with you. I have several knives and some are Spydercos, and undoubtely my favorite is the Spydiechef: the more I use it Spydiechef the more I find it suitable for the tasks I require... Thanks for sharing!!
My top 5 in no particular order.....
Gayle Bradley 2
Endura ZDP
Manix 2 XL
Brad Southard Flipper
Para 2
So far Spyderco is my favorite also. Well made decently priced ( other than the shaman )
Reading through the comments it seems like everyone is overlooking the native.
Fully ambidextrous due to the back lock, a nice finger choil, no blade gap when closed, excellent selection of available blade steels, and isn't very intimidating during or after deployment.
I prefer the stretch 2 over the pm2 specifically because of the back lock and shape of the handle's heel, which forms a funnel into your carry pocket. I like the edge profile of the blade a little better as well. I carry a straight spine k390 stretch 2, but I like the skinner blade too.
Spyderco makes a lot of great knives, it's hard to look through thier lineup and not find something you like. It can be disappointing missing a sprint run of something you really want, though.
Good day mate!!
Talking about the ladybug... I've put my Salt 2 through the wash a couple of times now after forgetting it was in my work pants pocket. Yep, I'd probably swallow a ladybug because I'd forget it was on my dinner plate.
It’s 39 degrees in Mississippi in the USA... 39F
I'm tired of all this metric crap... liberals doing anything they can to turn America into Europe.
Agree with the mantra and dragonfly, last 3 should be p'kal, delica 4 ffg, and matriarch 2. Lol that would be my choices anyways. Good video!
I reckon the dragonfly salt would be a good little thing
Fingers crossed that the Paysan will make it on all our top 5s.
Delica with ZDP. Native 5. Endura half serrated. Manix. Para Military 2.
About your merchandise: What size should I order that onesie in? I'm 5'9".
Great Spydie choices! So what do you think about a Cold Steel Top 5 bro? And a test of how good Cold Steel heat treats their 9Cr18Mov steel - for example with their fantastic Luzon. Thanks a lot and stay tuned
Damn that heat.
I Love Spyderco. I thought the Spydiechef would be the last knife I would ever buy, then they announced the Para 3 lightweight... Spyderco has a knack for taking my money lol
I really think that the chaparral lw in xhp would be an ideal smaller knife for damn near everyone. I really wish they offered more models in xhp, definitely one of my favorite steels.
Best Wishes from Bonnie Scotland !!!
I accept responsibility or the spidy hole.
The balisongs do not have holes in them.
But the new spyderco smallfly2 will and I'm happy with that.
picked up a Chef based on your vids and LOVE it! I'm a 940 guy for EDC but I love to cook and this is really good in the kitchen.
47ºC!! 'That's alotta farenheit' yes mate, instant vaporize
Your next t-shirt design would be awesome if it had the Dickhead Survival scale. Trash bag, raccoon, Les Stroud, and Ava. Just a thought. I'd definitely be in. Thank you for your time and videos.
Oh man and I do not know wich one to buy as a first pm3 native5 manix2 or sage5?
116°F?! Damn!
I thought Texas was bad...
Hopefully its not humid AF too.
We have the same fav.
What size Basil shirt you wearing Pete? We’re the same size. I’m assuming large?
Just 'love' spydercos ! oi oi oi 😊
The kapara is a great knife however however if you rinse it off and the sink beware the liners will rust
The capauara has a so similar blade to the stretch 2 from Japan.
A few of the new knives resembles the spydiechef
My top 3 are:
1: Caly 3 in CF
2: Para 3
3: Any UkPk (because i live in Germany)
Hi Cedric, although I collect knives and owned a Ken Onion Sharpener(which do comes with all the grind and burr explanation, I like to know from your more professional advise. How do I justify how many degrees of angle to sharpen each individual knives? Based how I wanna use them? Based on the grind? Please advise me bro thank you.
Smaller angles are sharper, wider angles are usually more durable. Start with the factory angle, switch it up from there. Almost every knife company will tell you what they use. Spyderco's standard is 17 degrees per side, iirc.
Nice video
God I love that Chef. Still prefer the Domino I think, but man, that Chef is hard to beat.
Yeah, the material combo beats the disease of knives, corrosion, but it doesnt surpass M390 or S110 for the debility of blades, edge retention. However, LC200N edge retention data shows it in his top 20, which is amazing! I wish there were other blade styles for it.
Spkdichef is quite exciting
Stretch 2 is pretty sweet in K390
It freezing cold in Wisconsin. We are in the negative temperatures.
Still need a Shaman Kapara and a Pm2.. still not sure about para 3... maybe lw para 3 in a sprint this year
While I don't agree with your choices, I do agree that Spyderco has an incredible amount of diverse knives that would fit almost anyone's needs or desires. Spydercos have been riding in my pockets since the early 90's!
I dunno if I'd say I dislike Spyderco I think they make a good knife mostly(excluding flippers on compression locks) I just don't feel like most of their line provides value at the price and some of their designs aesthetically don't appeal to me. That said if the worst thing I can say about them is they're overpriced that's not a terrible thing for those with the money to buy them also I'd probably have the same complaint for most Benchmades and ZTs.
Edit: Figured I'd include my top 5 Spydies too just because. No order really. Dragonfly for carry, Slysz Bowie for looks, Byrd Raven 2 for value on their budget lines, Carribean for all weather, and Manix 2 for value on the main line which might be replaced by the Para 3 LW soon.
I think spydercos are just over done. Seems like reviewers on UA-cam only like spydercos because all I see are spydercos. I'm sorta tired of them. They look the same to me. But I will say I do like the para 2 and the para 3 light weight looks interesting. Hell maybe I'm just being grumpy
"Value" means different things to different people, tho. They excel at different things than other makers. If you want a $40 beater, or an Isham-designed knife-sculpture, or a drop-shut framelock, they're barely even in that game. I hope they can find ways to get the value line extended (or get better designs/factories for the Byrd line) but I'm happy with the PM2 staying at boring-handle/cool-steel status quo.
@@JacksonKnives Yes and no. Value in the sense that I'm using it is in terms of cost versus quality of the item you receive. Now there can be different metrics which you evaluate value by for example value for a piece of knife sculpture versus value for a beater knife etc but by and large I'd say Spyderco makes knives that are almost exclusively meant to be knives not art.
So if you look at their budget line for 40-$50 you get a liner lock with good ergonomics decent action ambidexterous opening and clip with budget steel, other companies can give you the same traits for less money thus providing more value for a knife, now whether you like their knives more is another story and might warrant paying an upcharge but that's independent of the value of a knife as a tool question. If you're looking for titanium framelock knives with high end steel again other companies are doing it for less.
Like I said I'm not trying to shit talk Spyderco because their products are good they just really have the price locked in towards the higher end of what some of their competition provides. And they have some models which are more competitive than others but by and large I don't think most of the time if somebody was like "Hey I want these traits for as cheap as possible for a reliable good knife." That I'd ever point them towards Spyderco at the same time if someone told me "I had a Spyderco gifted to me is it a good knife?" I'd almost always say yes it's a perfectly solid knife.
I thought 47C was a blooper. Had to listen three times to make sure.
It’s 3F in nj -15 with wind
-23° C here in Chicago tonight. Want to swap places?
Still (!) deciding on my 1st Spydie
+47 Celsius in Australia, - 32 Celsius in Canada, I'd rather have the cold lol...shirts are awesome but the shipping price is brutal.
Hi at what degree is the factory edge on a pm2??
47° C, is what I'm used to in central AZ, 6 months from now. Crank up the AC and stay hydrated.
Subvert, Mamba, Parata, and then dealers choice!
I’m surprised that the Manix 2 didn’t make the list
The list from the video: Caribbean LC200N, Mantra M4, Dragonfly ZDP189, Kapara S30V, SpydieChef LC200N
Cut off the Amalgam's flipper tab and you're good to go . Hopefully the Smock's a good flipper being as it doesn't have a traditional flipper tab to get in the way .
Just as hot here in Nam.....thanks for the vid....
Spyderco Waved Endura: Best beer cap opener ever!!!!
Friend: "Hey, what ya doing?"
Me: "Huh? Opening a bottle with a $80-90 knife, works better than the opener ya got."
I do like Taichung’s work.
Good list! But I'd still take the PM2 over the Kapara. And the Chaparral over the Delica, Mantra and/or the Dragonfly.
Its so hot here, my dinner just cooked itself.
I would have yojimbo2 and canis on the list.
I sense a theme with a certain clip type.
For the money we pay for these spiderco knives,.I sure hope they would upgrade their packaging .
The Smock has the best flipper and action. But they sacrificed blade length, finger choil, and ergonomics to get there. Still, a really great Spyderco knife.
I just got a smock and bought brass flytaniums. Didn't Iike the finish, so I semi mirror polished the scales and slapped em on.
My smock is now heavy, feels super solid and the scales look great. Plus the action is unmatched
As a Canadian 47 degrees would kill me instantly.
Grey Holm as a fellow Canadian I concur
AMEN
As a Timmy Ho consumer, I agree
i was thinking the same, ill wear a sweatshirt out in -47 degrees ......but plus would be literally instant death.... i agree, im north of TO.
where are you in our marvelous lands?
-47 is fine though
