Me: Oh, thank Goddess, they seem to have found a safe space...
Grandma: "Let's Pray"
Me: GET OUT BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE
pretty sure if you say that the bunnies are dead you then suspect there is an animal around to kill them. which probably leads to not letting mushroom out unsupervised, meaning no death. that would explain why mushroom is seen later in the game from promo stuff.
Okay, I don't know how to feel about that. I agree with the fact it is indeed a VERY important and powerful scene... but it still makes me feel sick. I don't know if putting the player in a bad mood early is good for the experience while you move forward from that. It actually made me take a short break.
Ugh, I feel like they could have handled the sequence of events a bit better but what do I know. All I know is that - *_Feels bad man._*
I had to take a break too. Really not a good start to an episode, and a poor decision on the writers' part.
I feel like it should be like what Mari feared and the death should have been a direct consequence of a player choice. I mean really....you can actively choose to NOT have Sean open the door. But Daniel insists on opening it anyway as if to say "no, this emotional death HAS to happen and you can't change it even if we give you a choice." This is especially apparent after Detroit Become Human, cause that game would have let that scene have multiple different outcomes. This is my first viewing of the episode so maybe there are still alternate outcomes; but if there aren't any I'll be kinda pissed at DontNod for the cheap attempt at a reaction.
Playing this for the first time finally! I found her death really jarring, I think it should have happened way later in the episode somehow
@@LucaDolanRuiz Yeah, it made me feel REAL bad haha but the game is amazing and my opinion on the deatg got better as the game went on since I figured out the formula of the story. It is like Finding Nemo where you keep moving forward while you meet different people and have different experiences along the way.
As a pet owner for many years it's definitely emotional but it's not a "cheap shot" or whatever negative thing people say about DONTNOD. You can live in the city and accidents happen, illnesses happen. Especially being out in the woods where wild animals live. I didn't *want* her to die, of course, but we can't shy away from hurtful events in life just because of "pet immunity". There is no pre-written script in my own life when I lost my pets, so I'm not going to blame the company for writing this one in. /shrug Otherwise this is a great playthrough of the episode, guys! You're always the first people I go to watch a playthrough once I do it myself
Oh my god, letting Daniel kill the cougar made me so upset and I thought I picked the wrong choice. Then I watched you guys do it only for Mushroom to be dragged away like a piece of raw meat, I actually cried. Daniel never got a chance to bury her, just like they couldn’t with their dad :’(
Edit: when Daniel kills the cougar if you let him, the elder brother picks up Mushroom’s body in his hands and hugs Daniel with Mushroom between them. It’s tragic and upsetting, but I felt like it helped Daniel come to terms with death. I was expecting them to be too upset to look at the body, but instead they were so strong and faced the grief directly
Theory: their mom left them and their dad for another woman, hence her parents disowning her and taking her pics down etc
I thought the same too
Maybe, but abandoning her kids too? This game doesn't take place in some far back time where "mom is gay" is going to be used in court to remove her from AT LEAST having partial custody. anyway, I had several friends whose Dad's turned out to be gay and this caused divorce - but the father didn't disappear from the scene (in one of cases, the wife knew from the beginning and they got married and had kids anyway and were married until the wife died of cancer).
Ok, so having three friends with gay fathers in above average (to say the least), but even if those situations (gay male), the fathers were present even in the two cases of divorce.
I feel, so far, that Mom must have had other issues - or she was gay AND an asshole ("whelp, gonna go live with this woman and ignore my kids").
I mean I thought it would be better if mushroom was alive since they could have just made Sean and Daniel give her to Chris
Claire reminds me so much of my own grandma that when LiS reveals her horrifying secrets I'm gonna cry
I'm so fucking depressed now.. mushroom was literally like a savior for daniel... he was so much happier with her. This is so sad, alexa... play despacito.
Edit: ok I love Daniel's princess shirt.
DONTNOD HOLDS NOTHING AS SACRED DO THEY? THEY HAD TO DO THAT TO MUSHROOM?
When the dog died I ACTUALLY started getting nausea ... I feel like I'm going to throw up... Also YOU SHOULD HAVE KILLED ITTTT!!!!! I DON'T CARE THAT IT'S NATURE I'M MAD AND SAD AND IT NEEDS TO PPAAAYYYY (coming from someone who barely eats meat)
ok yah I was super sad about Mushroom. Thanks for the gag at 16:26 though, I love that comic so much
Lmao everyone is so mad at Dontnod for killing off the dog as if it wasn't obvious the dog wasn't going to last.... Sure I think they should have left it until later but big yikes it feels like people are hating Dontnod for the sake of hating Dontnod (or because it's not about Chloe and Max anymore, which we knew would be the case since before this game ever came out)
Ellen Meerkitty i didnt care for the dog but that was very unnecessary to the story lmao. Thats why dontnod is getting hate because they are forcing emotional distress to bs events
Loving these!
It's good storytelling to say show that shit happens sometimes and there will be no warning. Bad things don't happen when you want them too. It's a puppy and of course you don't want it to die, but all things do. However, I hope that wouldn't become a theme and they fall into the trend of emotion for the sake of emotion.
When I saw christians attacking LGBT people in the internet, I felt so betrayed and disgusted. Its like seeing yourself as being part of a hate group that attack you and it freaking messed me up. It was my first time getting exposed to that.
The only thing that kept me from being 100% atheist is that my religious family and church are a-okay with the LGBT. My brother who is openly gay and me (closet gay) still goes to church, a lot of LGBT people in my town do at least. Though I'm tempted to leave my religion at times, I still do it for my family and the comfort it brings.
Being a ProLGBT Christian is the most complicated thing ever and it tears my heart apart.
I knew it. The dog was gonna frickin die. I prepared myself though so I'm not too emotional
They let Araki write mushrooms death. Of course they told him to make it tame
I hate people who say that killing the dog was the last straw and they won’t finish the story because of it, but let’s face it we all knew it was going to happen just not this soon. I think they should have kept her around for awhile and killed her while trying to save Daniel. If you are saying oh because the dog died I don’t want to finish the game let’s face it you were never a fan of the game to begin with.
superphantom100 Good point
Agreed
Also...they kill off the Dad from the start of the game! What game did they think they were playing?!
Misti D RIGHT?!?!
They really did that. They can kill all the people they want but do. not. kill. the. dog.
Mushroom's Death was hella depressing but it can leave you wondering though, what if the cougar attacked something or someone else? What if it attacked Daniel or Sean if they went out? It's sad that this is not Max that she can just rewind to save the dog smh
I have a feeling that this whole theme of loss at the start of an episode will be a thing throughout this game...
Also theory!
Sean and Daniels mother left them, ran away and became Chris' (Cpt. Spirit idk his name) mom!
no
Agreeing on the theme part only
Spoilers
No Mushroom 😢😢😢
The decision made to the dog was a simple diamond formation for the developers, did you take the dog or not? It doesn't matter now, Telltale did this all the time (especially in the Walking Dead series) and it proved that player's choices have almost no effect on the game.
😂 the comments on here about the dog. Its sad but jeez its a game
I had someoneone spoilt rhe Mushroom scene for me.. but it was still so fucking hard to see.
Why cant i download this
You are saying your teaching him control by not murdering the car, yet you let him swear whenever he wants, which teaches him he doesnt need to control, at least thats how I view it
So they give you a dog at the end of the first episode just to immediately kill it at the beginning of the second episode? I'm sorry but that's such a bullshit "make the game more emotional" tactic. It's clear they only gave you a dog literally so they could kill it and get a reaction. They could've at least waited till later in the game. This was just lazy writing tbh.
While I also think it was way too sudden, and inherently manipulative, I do not think that you can say it was only for the purpose of a reaction. It is part of the ongoing evolution of how Daniel handles loss. Its to set him on the path of using his powers for revenge, or not as the case may be. It clearly serves a purpose in the narrative (albeit one that I do personally agree was rushed).
@@shadowfire1986 Okay but nothing like that happened in this episode, if they're planning on that coming into play later on in the series they could wait to kill off the dog in a later episode if they really feel that it's necessary. Killing off the dog is like a jump scare in a horror film, it's lazy and overused.
Yes Man Completely agree with you. This was simply terrible writing and poorly timed. It was done so horrifically and could’ve been implemented differently if they wanted to write the dog out of the series for whatever reason. Death seems to be their way of creating emotion and drama. I’ve enjoyed this season so far but Mushroom was one of the only rays of light and she’s been taken away far too soon.
Really should have waited til either episode 4 or 5 to kill Mushroom. I love both cats and dogs, so I knew she was going to die at some point, just not this soon. I'm more angry than sad, actually.
If they make a choose your own story game they should at least give an option to a bunch of things, this was obviously a cheap shot. It’s going to become a telltale game by giving everyone almost the exact ending and showing that your choices don’t matter. Like cmon at least make the game more interactive.
if i watch other LPs and people let daniel hurt that big cat (mountain lion? puma? cougar? is there even a difference? idk whatever it is) they will be low key on my shit list im js. kitties gotta eat
so sorry mushroom...no promo
9TH :D
They killed the dog this game is now cancelled and I dont care how it ends.
You were cool with them killing the dad but not a dog?
Yeah I was cool with them killing Chloe's dad too because it adds that edge and depth to the characters even though the trope is getting stale now. LiS 3 better not have a dead dad.
I 100% agree with killing the big cat. Sean said it wouldn't change anything, but burial matters. I'm not a vegan... if an animal is a threat then it's okay to kill it. Unless it is a dolphin or an elephant, etc.
It's totally fine to teach kids to kill animals. What do you think children were taught before the urban civilisation existed?
BAD WRITING DONTNOD
I knew this was coming, because of course they'd kill her. But I don't regret having him kill the cat. I just assumed they'd have it fly around a bit then have it be scared off. So it was a bit misleading, idk. It just said, "don't interfere with him."
Well he has telekinetic powers...and the cougar killed his dog...what did you think he was gonna do?
MUSHROOM DESERVED BETTER!! I’m suing DONTNOD
Amy Page “So what are you suing Dontnod for?”
Pain, suffering, and emotional damages.
“What’s your proof?”
*Shows them all play through of Life is Strange Episode 2.*
“Oh my...”
Honestly I always thought mushroom would die. She’s a puppy being looked after by kids on the run. They were always going to have a hard time taking care of her.
Come on! That cheap and you know know it, DONTNOD!
Certainly not surprised Mushroom dies, that was ordained from the moment she came into the party, but I was surprised it happened here and now.
DONTNODs slogan should be something around the lines of "DONTNOD, where you can't have nice things"
Just real quick-I'll be SHOCKED when they don't kill the pet! That's the surprise at some point, the family pet DIDN'T DIE! I'm really freaking pissed at these people that write stories and feel they have to kill the loving animal companion. Its cheap! and I know already said that, but really? DONTNOD-you just started episode 2 with that? They could have waited til later and probably done it better, if they felt they HAD to do it, at all!
i really feel that thier pacing is off. you're right, if they were going to do this, at least do it at some later point in time that makes sense. have mushroom hit by a car or something. like captain spirits drunk dad. This is so random. i really think the first episode would have been much better if the dad dying and power reveal was the end of the episode, not the start. having characters we dont know well dying has far less impact then if we had a full episode of character developement first.
Exactly! Heck, I already like your idea better! It could of been an honest accident by Chris's dad that Mushroom dies! This? First off, don't let the puppy go unsupervised and really watch her. This felt so off and fast, I just didn't have time to think or really mourn Mushroom. We could have used another episode and a half max with her, if you wanted me to feel something.
Life is Strange is always so beautiful and I love their soundtracks! This kinda reminds me of Brother Bear, actually.
Yes! I'm not the only one who thinks that!
Really why do games need to kill dogs, its like the cheapest thing to do, we all knew it would happen
Seriously pissed. We all knew it was coming, and yet I'm still pissed! I mean, damn, poor Mushroom didn't even make til the end! Poor girl=(
DUDE WHAT?! THIS IS NOT OKAY WTF.
WTF DONTNOD
I know it's unfair...but the mountain lion just needed to eat...
...Mushroom was in the wrong place at the wrong time...but it's still not the lion's fault...
God it would've killed me if he hurt that lion...it's not their fault either...
It's a suckass situation with no villain...
THAT WAS NOT OK MAN!!!!!!
"Does the Dog Die" is going to have a field day with this one
It could've been like captain spirit were certain things are time sensitive... so if you took to long in the house then it leads to the bad "ending" with mushroom. I'm not sure.
Mushroom dies. We checked the end game choices.
@@GeekRemix Awe D: feelsbadman
Make no mistake that shit is a cheap shot, but you gotta hand it to DONTNOD for their impeccable music choices.
Hipster or otherwise :b
Are you serious Dontnod? I get the whole dog scene but I just did not feel like it was neccesary at all. Like I feel like that scene was just to make the game more "emotional" and show Daniel as not in complete control of his powers but this just was not okay.
Dontnod after reading ep2 comment:s oh-oh we pissed the fans off
Dontnod in ep3: *sends Max to resurrect Mushroom which causes another storm in the final episode*
This would be funny
The fact that Dontnod relies on loss of cared about characters for emotional distress. They should rely on being able to write other emotional things thats not so graphic. I dont know doesnt seem right
I decided not to play this game and just watch your lets plays. why? cause this game is giving me anxiety. I'm tense through the whole thing and I'm not enjoying this feeling at all. The first LIS at times felt light hearted, at least the first few parts, and I could actually enjoy a gay love story without thinking "the dog is gonna die" or "the kid will do something bad" through the WHOLE thing.
1/4 experience wouldn't recommend
the title worries me so MUCH
this is the worst possible way to be right
I blame them for not having a sense of urgency and not going out straight away😂
Everyone is so upset about mushroom, and I am too, but realistically, there is no way that dog would’ve survived in this kind of situation anyways. I’ll be honest though, I thought the point of the dog was so that they could show time passing by mushroom betting bigger and bigger, but I guess not. Would’ve been cool though.
I recently got two new puppies (around October 2018 I think), and they look kinda like Mushroom. I played the episode by myself first, it hit me really hard. Had to pause for a minute... :(
Im loving the story for lis2 so far. Thanks for the fast uploads, this is keeping me preoccupied waiting for the REmake2 launch.
5:47 oh no no no.
And now I hate this. IM FUCKING CRYING. WTF
Poor Daniel, poor Sean. I hate that sad shit keeps hitting them.
*WARNING TO ANIMAL LOVERS*
I get it. It would be challenge to trying to raise a puppy AND a younger brother on a trip where you have next to nothing besides the clothes on your backs. But holy shit, guys, it's the SECOND episode! They did not hesitate with this :/ I really can't decide if this is cheap or not
For fuck's sake, their dad gets murdered in the FIRST episode, and no one whined about it. It's bad writing and emotional manipulation, but so was the murder of the dad. People caring more about a puppy than a father is seriously gross.
@@ninninin656 I disagree, I the story is about two kids having to cope with things like loss (their father, then mushroom) and other things they can't control. It is kinda cheap to do it this soon, but I think people would whine about it no matter when it happened so I pretty much ignore that.
Also mushroom was with us for more than a whole 10 minutes, unlike Esteban
This is why I have little to no faith in Dontnod, anymore. Ever since Episode 4 of the Original.
Agreed it was so not neccesary. It kind of reminded me of the end credit scene from before the storm
@@DavidJimenez1234 that I can KIND OF understand because Deck Nine is just trying to link Dontnods stupid decision.
This...I've seen something similar happen before...it's right up there with how they handled Rachels character..if not worse.
Just get these episodes over with and lets get back to Deck Nine!
Mushroom's death should have happened in the final episode. We could have bonded with her, making her death much more emotional. With this, we knew her for one episode, her death is just there. No emotion. No feeling of loss. I couldn't care less.
@@oversleep9920 yeah, if the dog was trying to save Daniel or someone else...I can kind of get that.
This...I really liked the first 3 1/2 episodes of the original...the last 3 1/2..it seems like the main priority is make people sad/pissed rather just tell the freaking story.
@@Weeeeee711 What was wrong about Episode 4? Personally, I consider it the best episode of the series so far and I thought Rachel was handled very well. It was a crushingly emotional payoff after so much buildup to the moment. If you're referring to not being able to see the body, I do remember that DONTNOD gave an answer for why they actually couldn't; don't remember what it was, but it made sense.
Mushroom's death does feel like it was for shock value, in that it came out of nowhere, though.
I'm crying so hard
... okay so i guess im heartless but. as someone who didnt really get that attached to mushroom, i also think it was kind of important for her to die like that. like obviously its horrible and traumatising, i feel awful for daniel -- but in the same breath, i thought that was a really fascinating decision for sean to make and in turn teach daniel. do you let him get revenge or do you have him understand that its not okay to use your powers for momentary satisfaction while also putting someone else's life in danger, even if they hurt you? in the end, daniel literally has this upper hand, this great power and i think its great that you guys held him back.
all that being said ... rest in peace mushroom!! go chase that great big stick in the sky girl :')
What bothers me is that it happened so soon and in a way that the player could actually try to have prevented. Like Mari actively tried to not let that happen without even knowing it would happen and it still happened. That makes it feel more forced than it should. It should've happened later and without any input from the player.
Honestly I didn't care much for the dog either...but I'm pissed that they killed mushroom off so early. I COULD have felt something, if they would have held the dog's death off at a later time so I can warm up to the dog but no...instead they just kill it, and I feel nothing but disappointment.
Misti D
i think it was a good time for her to go.
on one hand, i think the assumption is that people love dogs almost immediately so for a majority, they probably already feel attached to mushroom (i cant personally relate, im a cat person). so it really feels like it was the player's choice to murder an animal after the fact that the deed had already been done or not succumb to revenge that they probably personally feel, regardless of what type of person they want daniel to be, and move on.
but i also think, on the other hand, maybe its for the best that mushroom leaves the story now before theres a chance to get too emotionally attached and it hurts even worse down the line. to me, mushroom really didnt make much of an impact as a character outside of being a really cute puppy. but i can also see her being a burden to keep while daniel and sean are trying to survive with the little supplies they already have.
KevinzPC
with things like this, when story tellers have a certain intention in mind, its frustrating not being able to prevent events from happening. like its common sense not to let your dog out unsupervised in a wide open area, but the developera probably assumed that not everyone thinks like you and me and mari, and would probably see the dog and let it out before going to talk to daniel. but i had a feeling when she chose to ignore mushroom for her safety, it just wouldnt be that easy...
all this being said, i stand by my point that as much as its absolutely horrible that it happened, it probably needed to happen for daniel's overall development. if not now then later, if not this way then some other way, you know? ... i hope this doesnt sound too pessimistic, haha
@@ahricrossing6407 I'm more of a cat person too...but I do feel sad when a dog dies in a movie, as long as they take the time to properly develop its personality ( yes dogs have personalities) and attachment for it.
I just felt that all that dog did was bark and look cute. I feel like there was no point to the dog, other than to be another emotional moment. But I didn't even feel any emotion besides annoyance that it died so quickly.
I knew the dog would probably die...but after it was established as a friend and faithful companion to Daniel. Instead it was basically just a cute puppy that they took care of for like a month, and then it died.
And I watch and play the LIS series FOR these harsh, emotional scenes. But Mushroom's death was basically ruined for me cause I could've cared less about the dog.
I'm torn between being annoyed at people being more upset at an animal dying than a whole town in LiS1, and the game devs for continuing their bad habit of murdering random characters (and now animals) to emotionally manipulate the audience. Guess I'm annoyed at both. Good writing can create tragedy and emotion without murdering puppies, Jesus Dontnod!
i wish dontnod (and writers in general) stop unnecessarily traumatizing their characters. I get what they were trying to do with mushroom's death but I feel like it's too early and makes me wonder what's worse to come. also boringly predictable
I really wish there was some way that scene could have been optional… it's just so cruel, and I'm sure they could've come up with a similar beat that'd force you to choose whether or not to stop Daniel from using his powers! I sort of feel like they killed that character off because they realised it'd be a huge amount of work to animate them over the course of multiple episodes… I wish they just made it so the brothers had to leave her behind with the grandparents at the end of the episode.
Illusion of choice is littered in this season, so did the previous but that's why i really dislike these episodic games. Mushroom was killed too soon for me to start caring.
This season is really pretty but it's really just dragging on (or maybe it's the way you two play it, which is completely fine) but idk I just don't feel it living up to the first season
"But if you were innocent, then why did you run away?"
Because they are not white, Claire!
Also...Mushroom ;-;
I've never been emotionally invested in a game ever. Even animal deaths never got to me because I knew they weren't real so nothing really happened. But this game FUCKING THIS GAME MAKES CRY LIKE A BABY
DONTNOD is sometimes Nicholas Sparks.
I dont really get why anyone (this isn't a criticism) chooses "I don't know", or really, why that is even an option. Based on the convo earlier, Sean already knows that Dan is the reason for the bang that ended up killing the officer. IMO, the "REALLY?" option (and what he actually says) makes the most sense - but YMMV.
Thank you for leaving the music!
Kill the dog? Great....
“How about we say a little prayer-“
**Jumps our window**
Edit: I didn’t make this to offend anyone I just have bad experiences with prayers 😅
why dontnod, why? 😭
conceal, don't feel, don't let them know daniel.
Yeah killing off mushroom was just cheap and felt forced. They didn’t even have her that long. I know these games are supposed to be emotional and killing off a dog is supposed to be a guaranteed way to make your audience cry, but I didn’t feel anything but angry.
That cougar...got to eat a mushroom...
...DONTNOD...that scene was completely unnecessary.
Like, seriously. Was the drama and emotion already present in Daniel and Sean’s situation it enough??? It just felt...so cheap.
I'm actually so mad right now. typically I'm very chill, but this enrages me. Fucking hell.
Oh my god! I am not okay!!! What the fuck?! This is not okay!!! Like two homeless kids caring for a puppy... I had a feeling something would happen to her but.... Like i had to pause and just cry a while after it happened. Felt like i'd lost my own pet.... I think i need therapy now. Thanks dontnod...
What the fuck. I fully started crying when mushroom died. I'm so fucking upset.
spoilers
noooo killing the dog is such a cheap shot... :( poor daniel.... his dad dies and now his puppy gets killed right before his eyes??? man, by the time this game ends, daniel is gonna be hard as SHIT
Poor Mushroom, I literally went outta my way to not get a dog because Dontnod. Game forces me to have a dog. Right then, I knew that little guy was gonna kick it, but wasn't expecting it to be this soon.
so yeah mushroom dying is not a choice in the game, is gonna happen no matter what? that sucks
I would love, *LOVE* a game where the star animal doesn't need to die. Just for fucking once
I knew the dog was going to die the second they got her. It would be cheap either way, but they should have given us more time with Mushroom to make the whole move more effective. If you are going to cliche us, at least do it right.
The soundtrack for this season is so good~
Who sings that magnificent song while they are traveling to Beaver Creek???
The dog's death was more intense for me than the father's one wtf
I hate this game, why kill the dog, WHY???
i havent seen the photo so i might be incorrect, but if chris had photos of a dog that looked like mushroom in his house, maybe its one of mushroom's siblings?
Doin that shit to dogs is just stupid and cliche at this point.
I hate stories where bad shit just happens to be sad.
Ugh, what cheap shit. There was no reason for that. There's no way to save the puppy. I checked.
BUT - I really do follow modernized viking ideals. First democracy, women with rights, and you fucking kill something that hurts your family.
If killing the mountain lion was a "bad thing" I see the lesson they were going for, but it's a bad lesson to teach. That's how you end up in a society with Brock Turners still out walking around.
Sorry about that (I was very sad)
*Spoiler* Love the soundtrack, hate the fact that mushroom had to die for a cheap shot at an emotional pull....
They just didn't want to animate the dog anymore. Probably got boring
I hate I know where this is. And exactly how far away it is from where I live.
Damn why did they have to do Mushroom like that?
FLIPING DONTNOD
There was no hesitation the cat got what it deserved. F the game for that part. 😡
