Carchaeology: ArtCenter Beyond Supersonic Automotive Design Center Celebration

Randy takes us with him on his visit to the legendary ArtCenter in Pasadena and the amazing new South Campus Mullin Transportation Design Center. This "Beyond SuperSonic" celebration for the students and alumni of the school gives a peek into the future of transportation while celebrating the incredible machines of the past that have been designed by alumni of this institution.
This video most definitely dedicated to the life of Peter Mullin, perhaps one of the greatest patrons to the automotive arts of our era. His legacy will live on forever at ArtCenter.

That black "Japanese-spec Toyota Crown" is a Toyota Century. Crazy luxury cars, rare to see with the fender mirrors too, as they were an option that wasn't checked as often. Also interesting with the plate on the front from China. Black plates are 'foreigner-owned' and it's the Chinese plate for Dalian, in Liaoning Province.

Yes! You are correct! Toyota Century. It was amazingly lush up close, such a wild thing to see.

Wow! Talk about eye candy. Sad thing is, cool similar types of designs have been tried decades & decades ago, but never saw the light of day. Hopefully that will change soon.

The futuristic designs are always tempered by production it seems, but the concepts and visionary efforts of designers do find their way to the consumer. It’s by pushing that envelope that some of the world’s most beloved automobiles exist today. The cars on display in the midway at the event are proof of that. They are the reality that started from dream filled drawing boards at ArtCenter.
