    Best choice for a beginner drone, you have a fantastic piece of technology! Few beginners tips: 1. Don't do range tests over water, that's stupid. You don't know how far it can go so why discovering it by seeing your baby falling from the sky into water. 2. Flying indoors, if you are tempted, use propeller guards, you'll avoid injuries and broken propellers, it's not worth risking. 3. Pay attention to the wind when you start, if you go with the wind when going far away, it will burn much more battery when going back. More often than not, it will use more battery than you think. 4. If you are in an emergency when you'll have low battery situation, if it's windy, it's a good idea to descend. Higher winds up there. 5. Flying over water : if it has less than `2 meters altitude, water reflections confuses its sensors and it can decide to land just like that. Painful lesson that you don't need to learn with disaster. 6. Birds: if it is sustaining bird attacks, don't try to just flee them at same altitude or by descending. Birds uses gravity to accelerate. Immediately switch to sports mode and ASCEND. They won't be able to follow and distance the drone from the threat with minimal risk.

      Great tips, Dom! Especially that reflection tip with the water as I like to fly around water and close to the surface for peak cinematography. Thanks for sharing all this :)

      I would recommend a landing pad as well. It will help protect your props from getting damaged by tall grass and will help keep dirt and debris from kicking up into your props and gimbal.

      @@jasparewilson897 Facts. If I didn't do hand lands primarily now, I'd 100% go with a launch pad too.

      @@joshmoxey. You could fly just above the surface around 1 meter but then there are different parameters such does the water have waves, is it windy or muddy water because in this case it confuses the sensors. On still and calm water some reports that 0.5m is fine. The manual on the other hand say do not fly below 3 meters. It's up to you but the closer to the water, the riskier.

    I too am new to the drone world. 100% Amazing. Practice the hand launch and catch (Makes life so much easier). To launch, once it is on, just give it a slight toss upwards, it will hover. to catch, you almost had it, come in from the front (Camera side), and quickly grab under it (The sensors are in the back). Once you have the drone, the engines are going to rev, and try to take off on you. Slowly just turn the Mini 2 upside down in a smooth motions (you do not want to add stress to the gimble). I'm looking forward to your new content, i enjoy your approach.

    FYI...
    You do need a license to fly no matter the weight, unless it's purely for recreational intent (US). Uploading to social media (potential monetization) unfortunately doesn't count as recreational. You can self authorize flights on the spot in about 2 minutes... simple. I live in a blue zone, close to an airport, and was still able to fly no prob.

      @joshmoxey.  Рік тому

      Hey, thanks for your 2 cents. This video isn't monetized so it counts as recreational. And I have also since figured out authorization! Takes a minute to get the hang of it, but once you get it, I agree - it is simple.

    8:16 I was using it to check my chimney to see if I needed to add sealer. So happy I did not have to get out the ladder. I also went to a cliff that I am too lazy to hike up, that made my heart beat a little too fast when I got up there. Forget about racing them around, it is all about getting that perspective. I want to get more shots of some trails. I want the commercial license too so I can turn on monetization for videos that have drone footage in it, but the drone must have transponder similar to real airplanes here in America and the mini 4 has it I think. I did order a transponder though, I picked Spektrum SkyID, but you do have to add a battery to that one. I could build something and strap it to that little drone, put it over the 249g weight limit, but register it for $5 like I did for my large glider. Also. I believe if for whatever reason it can not communicate with satellites and remote, it will just force landing once the battery is low. looks like we do not have to worry about people getting this though, but someone could make one, but it is not legal to send out radio waves that are not approved by the FCC, eventually the police will be issued these radar jammers in places where there are drone problems. www.droneshield.com/products/dronegun-tactical

    Hope you have a blast! Got mine in Dec 2020. Tons of content on flying on UTube. 10 ten things not to do, camera settings, setting for smooth video, legal rules etc. I am in Florida and working on a part 107 for commercial use and going to get a larger drone but will keep my Mini2 as it's easy to carry with me. Probably going with the Evo Pro Lite plus as it doesn't geofence but waiting to make sure they iron out a few things. Fly as much as you can to improve skills. Use checklists and get apps to know wind speeds etc. Fly conservative say using rules of thirds so if winds pick up you can always get back. Enjoyed your first flight!

    The mini 2 is a preaty awsome little drone. Just remeber it will always come back with any disconnections, once you learn to trust that feature it gets preaty fun having the confidence to fly it all over the place. Like some others have said don't head out for a long flight on a really windy day. Also I have my return to home hight at about 330 feet, I always set it plenty high just to be sure it will clear everything. Have fun👍

      I agree! I was expecting this to be even more scuffed, but that kinesthetic tutorial helped a ton. It's so scary/nerve-wracking/uncomfortable at first but by the end of the week after flying daily, I calmly whipped it out and flew it on a beach to get some good b-roll (recent video if you feel like watching). It's become so natural. Also "film everything that looks interesting" is such a vibe right now as I'm obsessed with visual storytelling whenever possible hahahaha. If you want to land in your hand, bring It down while holding your hand underneath and the sensor will make it go up a little bit keeping pulling it down and it will start to land. Just watch your fingers haha practice it so you can master it and take off in the hand as I've been some places where take off and landing is impossible on the floor or any surface apart from my hand. Oh jeez! That's a rocky start. Glad to hear that it's still working though and you're back to flying again. Thanks for watching, liking and subscribing! Very cute puppy in your PFP btw :)

    hi josh nice flying and you can catch your drone in the front not at the back avoiding the rear sensor don't land it in the grass it might damage the propeller, in frying without lz you can start and gently tosse it up good luck by the way nice vlog

      Hey! Thanks for watching and sharing these tips. I've since learned more about the sensors and can now do the air grab maneuver so no more possible damage from the grass :-) also can you say more about the toss up action? Someone mentioned that but I haven't seen enough about that to try it yet

    Welcome to the fold. Nice to see some young local-ish folks getting into flying. Looking forward to seeing what you capture! Given the greenery and t-shirts I am guessing this was filmed at least a couple months before it was made public :-) There is a nice spot I like to fly (FPV) on the Grand. It is near 21 and 9 line E (Wilson Flats Access point #4). There is a spot to park (probably not in the winter) but there is a nice fork in the Grand to film. I haven't been there in almost 2 years but I used to fly it on my commute from Caledon to Waterloo in the morning (just after dawn). (edit) - I noticed at the end you mentioned it was filmed in August :-)

      Ontario gang! 🤝🏻 What city are you in these days? Thanks for the recommendation of that exact spot - I saved that in Notion so I can come back to it in the future. Yes, definitely not filmed in this winter wonderland that we're currently experiencing hahahaha :-) Appreciate the warm welcome, my friend! Wicked FPV shots on your end too. FPV is insanely cool! 👍🏻

      @@joshmoxey. I still work in Waterloo but have been working from home for the past 19 months. I commute from Caledon. BTW: I also have a Mini 2 but admittedly I'm not very good with the cinematic stuff. I enjoy flying the Mini 2 but picking shots and more importantly choosing what to throw away isn't my forte. If you want to check out drone shots from one more movie look at "JohnnyFPV" and his shots from the movie "Red Notice"

      Awesome! Almost positive I played Caledon in hockey tournaments way back in the day. And hey, many roads to Rome in the drone world! So long as you're enjoying your process, that's what matters most. But your shots look cool from what I saw! Just checked out the JohnnyFPV footage, I remember re-watching that scene over and over because I was taken aback at how good it was. Thanks for sharing that it was in fact FPV!
