Btw I really like these discussions. I admire youtubers abilities to get on camera and just chat like this. As soon as a camera goes on, I forget everything and drop about 60 iq points. And I don't have many to start with, lol.

When it comes to actives ive discovered recently that when I'm choosing to use actives, I want them to be the most active sounding pickups I can find, to accentuate those characteristics. This is the EMG 81.
Moreover, there is a tendency recently to make actives sound more passive, which in my opinion serves to defeat the point.
I spent the last year with only actives in all of my guitars, for science.
This included: blackouts, emg 81, 85, 57, jim root daemonums (for the passive active thing).
I've started converting some of them back to passive, and am culling the actives. The 57 and 81s will stick around.
How do you feel about the topic?

It sounds like you know what you want from your pickups. I like actives because they are super hot when I play and super quiet when I turn the guitar down. In terms of hot pickups I like actives specifically because they are hot/quiet. Hot passives are a bit too noisy for me, when it comes to passives though I generally prefer medium output. My favorite passive is the Dimarzio FRED. It has good output, low noise, and a great clarity to the sound. In terms of the Active/Passive type pickups, I haven't tried them yet. When I do I'll have an opinion on them. They do sound interesting though. I like to keep an open mind. Great question and topic J.H. ! 👍
